  • Wowzers, it's been a long time since I posted a video!
    Those who follow my social media would have seen the plushies I've been making recently. I've had soooooooooo many people ask me how I make them, so I figured this would make a video tutorial about it. :D
    The overall filming took about 18 hours, and I was able to edit it down to 35 minutes!
    Woo!!!
    I hope you enjoyed this video, as well as my improve shenanigans. XD

    This video is marked as "not for children" for a reason.

    Coming from someone who loves to sew (and wishes she had MORE TIME to do it) sometimes doing an “oopsies” and cutting out more than one piece or part of a pattern can be a life saver because in the event you do an “oopsies” while sewing and need to discard a piece, you have an extra without having to go back and recut it again!
    Of course, if you’re using a fabric that is particularly expensive or hard to find/purchase or you just wanna cut back on wasting your materials, you want to make sure you try to avoid this little mistake. However, if you’re as clumsy as me it can be pretty beneficial!
    Sidenote: my least favorite material to work with is felt. If you see too close to the edge it falls apart and your stitches come undone!

      I really wanna take a shot at making my own Toothless plush this summer. I was wondering if you know how to make foldable wings without including wire to make them move? If you have any ideas that’d be wonderful. I also have a deviantart if talking directly is better.

    • @joje90aj17
      @joje90aj17 4 года назад

      Huh. I like sewing with felt because, while the edges are pretty iffy, the final plush always feels nice and sturdy. Plus, you can needle-felt on some of those annoying tiny patterns and details! I guess it’s a matter of preference.

    Plush toys is something that I really want to do in the very, near future, as part of my toy manufacturing career via the company I have created, Flip Flap. It's something that I have never done before in my life and it's quite an intriguing sight to see plushies being made so well. This method is also better than at a sweatshop in China, making cheap and nasty knockoff plushies made in China.
    It's also very worthy to note that I used to own a lot of plush toys when I was 10 years old and I really want to make 1 or more than 1 Flip Flap plush toy for money.

    4:13 Using this small clip, it's best to make patterns that already consider seam allowance instead of adding it yourself when you trace the pattern. This will ensure that your seam allowance is even/equal and it's easier in case you do mess up the first time.
    Also, ensure that the marker/chalk/pencil you are using for tracing the pattern is meant for fabric and can easily be washed. Make sure you know the cleaning requirements for your plushies too since if you clean the plushy in hot water and it has cold water fabrics mixed in, you can potentially mess up the plush.

    I’m definitely gonna try and do this! I have a bunch of leftover fabric from when I made my fursuit so this is a good way to use it :0
    Questions:
    -Do you think using faux fur on a plush is a good idea if you can’t buy fleece?
    -Do you think that making a 3D model with foam of the character and then patterning it with tape is a good method?
    Thank you for making this tutorial! You have such a welcoming and happy voice so it makes learning this a dream!

    • @Neffertity
      @Neffertity  5 лет назад

      I'm glad you found the video helpful!
      As for making a plush of faux fur, I have seen it done. And some of my larger plushies feature big fluffy necks. The biggest issue is that because the material has much longer fibers, it's difficult to attach details to it without getting the fur all stuck.
      As for using foam to sculpt a base, it does work to some extent. Some of my projects have been patterned like that, but it usually requires tweaking to the pattern afterwards.
