Fun fact, teams don't own the Pirelli tires. Pirelli literally scrapes their rubber compound off of tracks so you can't reverse-engineer their compound.
Why are their street tires so terrible then? Think they could put that engineering into making a decent everyman tire.

Pirelli study the tire to ensure no wear that wasn't predicted and they use that data to tell teams how long the tires are safe for based on temp and those things.

@@KiLlA21K Correct, my dad's best friend worked for Michellin for years and after a race, they collect ALL of the worn out tires and they even vacuum the track to collect the tired beads and marbles that come off. All of that used material is either analyzed, collected for scrap recycle (the stuff they use in playground turf), or it is used for testing purposes. Lots of secrecy for the tires. I want to know, what is the penalty if a team messes up the process or forgets to turn in a set of tires?....

I thought they go to my uncle's farm like my old dogs and cats.

1) Tire manufacturer does not want it's tire compound formula to be studied

the tires is " recycled " or destroyed if this is not rentable ( thems of transport ...) but pirelli says when the tires are destroyed is eco friendly ...
They check them, they storage them in the pirelli factory in slatina, Romania, and there are chances they get recicled

The reason the tyres are sent back to Pirelli is because
1: Analysing the performance of tyres
2: so that no one can reverse engineer the tyre compound
btw, the f1 track is cleaned, and all the debris is securely disposed so that no one can reverse engineer the compound of it

Eventually cleaned but if fans are allowed onto the track then clearly not as you can see fans picking up bits of tyre debris
For those who didnt know these tires aren't thrown because the other tyre manufacturers can get to know which compounds they use to make the tires and then Pirelli can loose their place in F1 .

@@piergiorgio919 it's probably both. Industrial espionage is a HUGE business itself, you really don't want another manufacturer having examples of your tires to do direct tests too because they will eventually make a better tire.
I thought Pirelli made all of F1's tires until after x amount of years until somebody else gets contracted to make them again.
@@julian23561 they probably won't switch manufacturers. Pirelli has been the sole supplier for 10 years through 2 or 3 contracts. Hence why it's so important for them to protect their work so someone doesn't duplicate them and offer them cheaper and steal the contract
Based on a how quickly the tires wear and how they explode mid-race, I will say Pirelli is probably making tires from cow shit.
And Pirelli cuts them down, coats them, fries them and sells them as Calamari

All tyres except Checo's. His tires are cleaned and fixed, ready to use to next race. The tires from Monaco are the same from Styria.

This is after a practice session or after qualifying, not a race. After a race weekend, they are sent back to Pirelli's engineering and logistics hub at Didcot, where they are finely shredded and burnt as fuel for cement factories.

it's more like, you give your new nuts to pirelli and at the next session, they'll be fitted on your tires
So often teams will use one set of tyres in mulitiple sessions (i.e. FP1 and FP2). Cars that have got through to Q3 also have to start the race on the same set of tyres they set their fastest lap on, therefore they are using the same tyre in multiple sessions and, so this video says, change the nut between sessions.

these tyres seem to be getting better treatment than how much an average person gets
Have you seen the lifecycle of the nose of an f1? They get sent back to the UK and get the paint stripped and reapplied. Torro roso used to get hand painted decal each time.
