Unboxing & install of the INBAY pocket wireless charger / charging compartment Volkswagen Passat B8

- This charging compartment was fitted in a UK RHD Volkswagen Passat B8 TDI from 2015.
Advanced apologies for the white noise in the background (it’s the Osmo Gimbal motors).

If you are in the UK, your car will probably come with the “smokers pack” that is an ashtray and lighter. Unfortunately, the Inbay is not compatible with this. However, I found the compatible part on the online market, and has the following part number: 3G2 863 071A. Inbay claims you will need the part from LHD cars, which would be 3G1 863 071A. Though as you can see from my video, I managed to fit the Inbay without issues with the part for RHD.
To take apart the centre console I followed the instructions provided by Inbay: bit.ly/3n09Fsi
Thanks for your video. I managed managed obtain the part from VW Parts at my local dealer for about £45 GBP. I didn't need to loosen the display in mine, just the gearstick gaiter and then the piece below. The difficult bit is definitely getting it all to fit afterwards. For me, it came down to stuffing cables down the side.
I’m glad my video helped someone 🙂. You must have a friend at the VW dealer cause I got quoted a lot more. Hence I ended up searching on eBay and fb market.
VW Pats guys here in 🇮🇪 just won't quote any part # that didn't come on the the car from factory. Same dramanwith my Polo 6R they just won't share any info on parts common or interchangeable to other models
Do you have the part number for that OEM VW cubby &;USB port to swop out our ashtray &;cigarette lighter ?
Ideally I'd like the solution thebfacelifted B8 got in thatvits a completely open cubby with no lid & the surround for the gear selector gained a USB port. Everything looks thebsame so would imagine a straight swop but I might have to start looking at Breakers /;Scrap yards for these items

I’m afraid not. You can just about fit the standard one.
Will it connect to App Connect
through that device?
It’s got nothing to do with app connect, it’s just a wireless charger.
Thanks for the video. As double confirm, you're using PN 3G2 863 071A for RHD car which came with smock package rite?
By the way, your car come with wireless apple carplay/android auto?
Hi, the smoke package does not include this part, that’s why I had to buy it. I can confirm though that if you have the part number you just mentioned, it would work with that regardless if it’s 3G2 or 3G1 (this is meant to differentiate the RHD from LHD).
My car didn’t come with apple car play from factory, instead it had mirror link and sat nav. But I had retrofitted an infotainment from 2021 (MIB 2.5 Discovery Pro).

Yes, with a dongle.

Hi Daniel, Why the "2 hours later?" was it just finding a way to hide all the cable or was there an inherent fitting issue?
Hi Mike, it wasn’t quite 2 hours 😅, but it was fiddly to get it “clicked in”. The cable I managed to tuck the entire length on the left within the console. Might’ve just been me, but I found it hard to slide to the back and then find the right location to press down. It has the same fixing mechanism as the facade for the AC for example.
So i lose usb for qi charger? No my friend
You don’t actually loose the usb, in this case the usb was and is, in the armrest compartment. This car came with the “smokers” package and had a lighter.

Hello! Yes this video was made for RHD vehicle, though it works the same way for LHD. Please expand the description of this video and you will find a link to the wireless charger and also part number for certain bits you might need.
