Lucky for me I only had to walk 50 yards to the nearest bridge after this mornings announcement... Unlucky for me that I jumped off the 10 foot bridge 3 times and am now just very muddy, wet and cold!!!😢
@In The Woodyard Lucky for me, you are back so soon! Unlucky for me to have just gotten an order for (2) cord of boiler wood this evening, and it is pouring rain! Looks like I will be muddy, wet, and cold again today.😪
Pine is fine for a nice crackling backyard fire but I like to throw some tri tips, brats or maybe some yard bird on the tripod over the campfire and pine just won't cut it here unless you like the flavor of pine pitch in your steaks. To me a real campfire is more than something to just watch, for that you need oak, maple, ash or any good hardwood. That's how we do it here north of 8. Great video Chris, hope you got a ton of beaver!
The snap and crackle are fine until it's not, Last fall had a snap that launched a burning chunk into someone's lap that was sitting 8-10ft back from the fire fortunately his chair took the brunt of the 🔥 damage. 🙃
I always feel guilty raising prices for existing customers, but then I remind myself they only call me for wood, not to invite me over for dinner. So I got over it. Now charging over double what I started at in 2012 and I sleep real good 💵😴👌
I'm the same way. First cord I delivered for $180 bucks. I delivered and stacked it for free. Over the next 2 years I've increased prices to $450 for mixed cords of hardwood and I sell cherry, oak, hickory separately for $200 for a third of a cord. I still sell out every year.
I’m glad you guys can get good money for your wood. I’ve been looking at prices for firewood in the area that we’re planning on moving to. The biggest company is selling wood for 😳$100/cord. And that’s not a typo. I’m just considering finding my own niche, to be different from everyone else.
They might mean a face cord So it might be $300 a full cord. $100 for a full cord is stupid cheap anywhere. Logs alone go for $110-130 at the low end everywhere.
Love the videos. I work for a company that does firewood. We have 3 processesers. And currently have about 6000 cords of firewood. I deliver alot of firewood. Mostly by the semi load. I really got into it after watching your video.
When I used to sell firewood, I never realized how much work it was, because I enjoyed doing it and I need the exercise. As I have gotten older, I realize that it is a lot of work. I still enjoy doing it but can't do as much as I used to. I wish I would have bought equipment before I retired. I can't afford it on retirement. A tractor would be a great help. I do have a great Timberwolf splitter with a 4 way, and good saws.
I use to do firewood on my own to. I really enjoyed it. Can't do what I use to because of injuries. I work for a company who sells firewood now. I just don't have to do all the cutting and splitting. I just deliver it.
I got my hands on some Scotch Pine logs, from a dead tree. This stuff is FULL of pitch- like every other growth ring is orange, in some rounds, and it's all sticky and REEKS of pine. You better believe it burns nice! The splitting debris, and small splits are about the best kindling I've had. I also obtained several 5 gallon buckets of Red Pine draw knife shavings and turnings from a friend who's building a log cabin. He said, here, try this for firestarter. Definitely puts newspaper to shame, lol. I gotta be careful how much of these I put on at one time- if I want to keep my eyebrows. The larger splits and knotty pieces aren;t dry enough to burn yet, but ought to be excellent for camp wood or initial fire lays. As popular as camping and fire pits are around here, I'm surprised its so rare you see pine for sale. It's plentiful, and cheap. Interesting, to see that pricing is all over the map- depending on where you are. $70-80/face is pretty standard around here. Specialty wood, like cherry and hickory for smoking is more- if it's sold AS smoking/bbq wood. (some guys just mix it in with whatever else they have) I think I paid $50 for a nice half face of cherry a couple years ago, for example. I'm in W NY state. Joe and Joe in Ohio get way more than that for their wood, and it sounds like you do as well. I've also seen 1 cu/ft bundles sell for TEN freaking dollars at stores! Just typical mixed hardwood, too. That's $1280 a cord!!!
Awesome video! I’m in Long Island, fire wood goes for about 120 a facecord 250 a full cord. Around here you can get free wood from tree service, they will even bucks it up to 16” for anyone to take so they don’t have to pay a dump fee…. I wish I had the land or else I would get into the business but it’s just to much money to rent land around here and wouldn’t be worth it..
I’m happy for you that the sales starting to pick up, I watch some old beaver hunting videos and I did like it, same thing we don’t see here in Rhode Island , good video , good luck on your hunting trip!

Pine is fine, as long as it needs to. Get yourself a moisture meter, about $20-30 and test the inside of the wood after 3 months in the sun and wind off the ground and it might be dry enough but 6 months is better and a year is great! Good luck!
Have fun trapping, Chris. If there's no video while you're gone, I'll just head out and start a camp fire with Pine and watch that. I hope you take footage from trapping with your brother though. You guys are a riot when you're together. Take care!
I would really love to see some videos on beaver trapping. Not something I hear anyone talk about and how it is done and what you do with the pelts. Good luck trapping and enjoy your time off. You earned it for sure!

Great video Chris! We’re still getting our little wood business to grow here in Oklahoma. I was curious if you charge for “deliver and stack” or just “deliver and drop”?
Thanks Frank! Yup, stacking is $20 a face cord or $60 a full IF I can back up to the stacking area with no steps. If it needs to be carried, carted.....more.
If you're willing to take the risk, you might could get Red Green to sit in for you. Speaking of, I think I saw you take 3 hyper speed rest stops on the side of your pickup bed! @@InTheWoodyard we don’t sell for those prices. But still not what it should be. Maine is a tough market. Lots of trees not heavily populated and every Jack wagon with a chainsaw and a pickup truck is a firewood dealer. Lol
Taxing corporations allows for the individuals to pay less income tax (though they are paying the corporates taxes when they buy the stuff from the corporation). The key is that if the corporations are making lots of profit, they should pay taxes on it. In other words, when prices increase in raw materials and operating expenses, corporations need to increase the price of their goods and services to cover the increase, but if they increase their price more than that to cover the increase in their costs, they can make significantly more profit. The consumer is paying for this profit, and it should be taxed.
@@InTheWoodyard As long as we already bought the product, I would like to see our individual income taxes reduced by taxing the profit of the corporation. Otherwise, that profit goes directly to the rich stockholders' pockets (i.e., the rich get richer, and we pay for it all). I think you want total less taxing (i.e., less government, but we still need some taxes to cover military, infrastructure, etc., so, let the profits or excess profits of corporations be taxed instead of just making the rich richer.).
Pine sure is fine! I get it for free from tree service guys and i sell about 30 cords of it a summer 👍👍 We're spoiled with videos everyday, the dog and i watch every morning right at 6:30 while the wife sleeps 🤣, nothing like the sound of chainsaws and log splitters during your morning coffee. The dog loves the cats too! That being said, we understand if you can't do a new one everyday, its all gooooood
In Colorado a full cord of hardwood, no matter if it's oak, mesquite, ash or even pinyon, it's $840!!!! That's not delivered, you have to pack, stack and haul yourself!!!
Not sure of what you are asking??? Selling wise, kinds of wood, the time it should be seasoned, what customers want or are willing to buy, how long it takes for specific kinds, areas for drying wood that are best??? I am going to guess.....is it okay to sell unseasoned wood? Yes a s long as the customer knows it is NOT dry and it will take time to be ready to burn. NO if you want to sell wood to repeat customers. Would you go often to a doughnut bakery that just sells you a lump of dough? But if people want to buy NEXT years heating firewood to stock up...that is different.
You can't break the streak... Tape a go pro to a woodyard cat. Theres 3 videos right there. Putting it on, " the day and life of a woodyard cat", and trying to get the tape off the cat.
Check it out boys or girls Chris so true on is words in the firewood business in price 😊, good luck into the beaver traps lines . Carry on boys and girls . I’m tie up this morning no lobster fishing due to high winds and high sea . Always THINK SAFETY on lobster boat to Chris . 😊

@@InTheWoodyard we don’t sell for those prices. But still not what it should be. Maine is a tough market. Lots of trees not heavily populated and every Jack wagon with a chainsaw and a pickup truck is a firewood dealer. Lol
I would burn the oak in the fireplace during the winter and cottonwood in the fire pit in the summer.
yup!
I am for less tax everywhere because we the consumer will always pay it eventually.
I get it for free from tree service guys and i sell about 30 cords of it a summer 👍👍
We're spoiled with videos everyday, the dog and i watch every morning right at 6:30 while the wife sleeps 🤣, nothing like the sound of chainsaws and log splitters during your morning coffee. The dog loves the cats too! That being said, we understand if you can't do a new one everyday, its all gooooood
Your routine can continue, I am back!
In Colorado a full cord of hardwood, no matter if it's oak, mesquite, ash or even pinyon, it's $840!!!! That's not delivered, you have to pack, stack and haul yourself!!!
Thanks for the info!
What is your opinion on seasoned wood? All wood seasoned? Some? None.
Good answer...FWIW I don't eat doughnuts.
Have fun trapping ! Slay the beaver!
Thanks Zack!

I like your video Chris. Happy to know you are going to be spending time with Kenny in pursuit of beaver$. The market for beaver is really good now so maybe a chance to actually make a decent return for your fun/work. Maybe you need to find a young aspiring beaver skinner to make the nights not so late. I know you guys will be successful and hope I get to see the eagles this year. GNI
Thanks Larry!
