    Hello and welcome back
    Introducing our new overlanding series
    Cape 2 Kunene.
Join us as we venture north on roads less traveled and the wild places inbetween.
As we unplug ourselves from the matrix to experience new things beyond the city limits.
We hope this series will inspire you to explore the wildside.
Day three we pack up camp and plan to visit the Oasis of Pella to start the namaqua 4x4 trail. Our last visit was 30 years ago so it will be interesting to see if the town has changed.
Pella was established in 1814 by a missionary Christian Albrecht who settle here after being persecuted by the Orlam Chief Jager Afrikaner. It was named after the Macedonian town Pella where Christians found refuge from the Romans.
Father J M Simon arrived in Pella 1882
and together with brother Leo Wolf, with no experience and no funds for an architect built the Roman & Gothic style church referencing an encyclopedia.
…And it took 7 years to complete.
The way of life is By modern standards has Not changed much since then.
Today this region in know for its mining operations and boasts the biggest date plantations in the southern hemisphere.
We commence the Namaqua 4x4 trail over the Charles pass which takes us through some of the most beautiful and rugged landscapes we have seen on the Orange river.
This is as Rugged and remote as it gets.
The Quiver tree stands proud of the landscape with its sculptural branches fleshy leaves and textured bark.
The name stems from the San people who used the thinner branches as quivers to carry their arrows.
This endemic species of tree aloe is uniquely adapted to the desert environment.
They are the ultra athlete of the desert plants.
It is our luck that the quiver trees are in full in full bloom and We stop to get a closer look.
This is a plant that knows how to survice in the desert for years.
In flowers in winter and the blossoms resemble.

    1) In the shower; Expectations on a 4x4 trip are the same as Assumption! An assumption is the mother of all F - Up's
    2) Adjusting glasses with that kind of mannerism, in my book, is definitely a 20m walk depending on time of day and current temp.
Love the innuendo's and play with words. Love what you are doing, great job G's. Taking us to places in my own backyard. Confirming my reasoning to spend the money that I who'd have spent on overseas travel, and spend it on my own rig.👍👍

🤣🤣ja Pieter, the wife here..you know the one with the glasses adjusting mannerisms, the one who only walked 10m’s 🤣, remember it’s swings and roundabouts with regards to gate opening. It’s not a static portfolio.
So happy you enjoying the series, if this is the first episode in the series that you are watching, well then there’s lots more adventures and innuendo to look forward to. And maybe wait to episode 12 before deciding on the scale of your budget.
      😆 Lekka feedback

Loved the journey so far, especially the rather expressive and submissive greeting of the gate opener! The Scenery of mountains veld and trees😍😍😍 So looking forward to the rest of the journey

In the editing process, would appreciate a batter balance in loudness between video sound and the music sound track. It's a little bothersome to turn up the volume to hear you speak and down when the music comes in. Enjoying your content immensely.

Hi. What are your thoughts on doing the Namaqua trail as a solo traveler ??

    • @SoulTonicLife
      @SoulTonicLife  Год назад

Hi Mark, we think that by and large it is do-able if you have a reliable 4x4 vehicle, there is thick sand in some places, but if you have recovery gear and you are not a crazy cowboy, you should be fine. In our experience it’s always good to chat to other people that have done the trail or who are on the trail. The tracks for Africa maps are also great.
We chose to do it in the cooler part of the year and not in the rainy season.
It just requires a bit of homework, but well worth it.
Happy to share more info if you need.

Thanks, sounds like a trip for Oct/Nov this year. The sand doesn’t worry me, (I’ve been to Mabua & Kaokoland ), only technical off road sections.
