    How do you interpret the frame data for strings/combo attacks? Like a "113" combo? How does the start up, block, and on-hit advantage relate to this combo string compared to the frame data for, say, a F3 command normal?

    • @shujinkydink
      @shujinkydink  7 лет назад +38

      Respekk great question! So you go to your single moves list to get frame data for first attack. Say the string is 113. Startup for 1 is 10 frames. Then go to your combos and look up 11. The frames listed there will be for the SECOND hit. Then go to 113, the frames listed there will be for the THIRD hit. And so on. Does that answer your question? :)

      That's actually super helpful! I always wondered "How could 1-1-2 have a slower startup than 1-1 when they both start with 1?"

    • @TipTopTie

      Awesome vid! So would it be fair to say that if you wanted to punish someone after you've successfully blocked their attack we'd just use the start up frame data for the first basic move in a combo string? Am trying to find the best combo to punish people but am not too sure which start up frame data to read (basic or combo). It seems that looking through the basic attack's start up frame data and finding the input with the shortest start up frame is the best way to decide what move i should use after a successful block to punish the enemy. If that's the case what's the purpose of the startup frame data for combos if you've successfully inputed the first input button and will eventually finish the combo?
      So for example: 111 is the combo with a frame data listed as 20 (from blue beetle's combo attacks). Since the listed frame is listed for the final input would we just need to look up 1 (from blue beetle's basic attacks) to determine whether we should use that particular starting input for the combo?
      TL;DR: Which start up frame data do we use to determine what is the best punishable combo after a successful block. The startup frame for the first input of a combo (under menu's basic attacks heading) or the overall startup frame data for the combo (under menu's combo attacks heading)?

    • @shujinkydink
      @shujinkydink  7 лет назад +1

      you are correct sir! 1 for the first hit, 11 for the second hit, and 111 for the third hit. this will also help you know when its safe to cut a combo short if you want to try to stagger pressure

    These videos are great for someone like me. I haven't played a fighting game since mortal kombat 1 and 2 when I was a child because I never thought I liked them. I just happen to be a big DC comics fan so I got this on that basis alone and I am obsessed. Nearly 200 hours in and I show no signs of slowing down but the mechanics are all foreign to me and you do a good job teaching stuff that will really help me out.

    Even though I knew pretty much what frame data was, I never understood how you would determine what "+3 on block" meant in a way of how would I determine what I could follow up with afterwards. But this helped tremendously and now I've figured it out thanks to the way you described it! Thanks a bunch.

    Yo bro, I run Batman and I can never punish Super Girl or Captain Cold when they do their down 3 or down 3 into special. I've had the game since it came out. Been in practice mode trying to figure it out til this day. Also did tournaments in MKX and Injustice 1 and I still don't know which one of my moves I can use to counter their down 3. Its very frustrating. I took 3 days off until I had the right set of mind to hop back on the game, and I still lose a lot to those characters.

    fun fact, moves under 10 frames are physically imposible to reactivly block, human reaction speed is about 7-8 frames or 120 ms for a verry reactive human and the game lags at about 4-5 frames.

    • @shujinkydink
      @shujinkydink  7 лет назад

      you need to stop them from doing that move, or counter with a MBB3 which has armour which will eat one hit so you can counter the follow up :)

  • @greggrozdanis5737
    @greggrozdanis5737 3 года назад

    I know its 4 years later, but Im on practice mode and Bane’s 12 has a higher startup than his 123. Since the first two moves in the 123 are literally the same as his 12 then why is the startup different

    • @shujinkydink
      @shujinkydink  3 года назад

      The startup is for the last hit of the move. so his 1(brutal jab) is 7 frame startup, the second hit of that string 12(dead on) is 14 frame startup, then the third hit of that string 123 (final strik) the third hit starts up in 6 frames. So it tells you how fast each move of that string starts. I hope thats helpful 4 years later!

      From the hit or block. So once the hit lands, it will take x amount of frames for the player to "recover" come back to neutral position.

    Quick question. If my block advantage on a move is lets say 10 frames and the opponent blocked then any move under or equal 10 frames should punish that move IMMEDIATELY post blocking. Is that correct? Or does it mean that the opponent can't do anything no matter how fast their move is for 10 frames?

    I'm a bit confuse with the "frame trap". Is it how fast you can input something else after the Start-up, whether the opponent blocked or not? Thanks for the vids Dink!

    • @shujinkydink
      @shujinkydink  7 лет назад +3

      Jestermask think of it like a mini combo. Example b3 is +5, so that takes 5 frames off the startup of your next move. So if 2 is 8 frames..if you do it after b3 it would be 3f. So they can't move after b3 creating a combo of b3,2. I hope that makes sense I know it can be overwhelming at first

I really hope you can help.

    • @shujinkydink
      @shujinkydink  3 года назад

      unfortunately every move has a different recovery which makes it really hard to tell for sure. I usually go into practice mode, set the ai to block, and try different timings to see how soon after my last move I can press a button. i keep trying to get it closer and closer together until im pretty sure thats it and then I practice the timing. Good luck!

    Well first of all thank u for your time and effort for doing this kinda little Tutorial on how to read Frame Data in this game!
    I kinda new what Frame Data is like things like STARTUP / ON BLOCK / ON HIT - But im new to this game and i want to get good in MKX i played naturaly whitout knowing Frame Data in generall or even take the time for it and i could punish only certain things cuz i watched other ppl and learned from them i played Liu Kang back in the day and had a lot of fun actually. But there is a question i would really like to know about this game how NEGATIVE should a move be in this game in order to punish it correctly like is there a STANDARD on which i can look up to or so ? In SFV it is -4 but how is it in this game ? :) u got a new sub and im loofking forward to other things ! Have a nice day shoutouts from germany !

      cool then , im still at a "meh" status about injustice 2 , specially when i know its not comming to pc =( , also the lvl thing and upgrades are something that i dont like on a fighting game . I have an arcade stick too (MyFlash F300), but i need an octogal restrictor , i guess that for my next fighting game im going to use it instead of a gamepad.
