So well explained your findings/thoughts on this RS4. This walk through series of videos will be so helpful for potential new owners and existing owners. Love your work and channel🫶👍
It’s always difficult as an owner to decide the stop point when maintaining a performance car like the B7 , personally given the colour and spec I’d do both sub frames and all bushes after the engine , paint correction then stick it away for 5-10 years and drive it dry weekends only , great work as always 👍
This is very interesting for me b/c I also have a B7 RS4, currently at 145K miles. It's been well maintained, but I have an oil leak coming from 1 of the timing chain covers, which leaks oil onto the exhaust manifold causing smoke to billow from the hood. Obviously at the age/mileage I need to do the timing chain, but I kind of want to do everything while the engine is out.
You should take the engine out, change all the tensioners and chains. new clutch, flywheel and so on :) Just change everything u can afford when its out of the engine bay.
Deck heads, replace valve springs, seats and seals. Maybe even the valves... how much faith do people put in the original hardware from the factory after all the heat and cold cycles they endure... then have a guessing game when they have catastrophic failure..
@@ashezplayboyif you have to pull the entire engine out? Yeah I’m gonna agree just do all that also It’s such a pain in the ass to work on these cars you might as well do a entire over hall
Very reassuring lads . I've one of the same age and mileage and as you say showing her age in places and you must treat her as such.Still absolutely epic though !
Thanks very much for sharing these insights and know how.. will be tuning in more ,, have B7RS4 30K miles,, aiming to keep it immaculate so great sharing.
Always great to watch , interesting to see a 100k is no prob on the bottom end , a lot to be said for regular oil changes ,,,, it will be better when its sorted though.
interesting as always - learn so much from you - keep doing what you're doing - I'm going to need my timing chain done ( B8 S4 2014 plate ) so looking forward to getting that done
Great commentary on the tear down. Oil change is by far the cheapest maintenance option, so I'd be doing these every 6 months regardless. Even though most of that engine is in good condition it would always feel like a wasted opportunity not replacing the wear and tear...ooops! Sorry, tear and wear items. After all, it's basically a new engine when you replace them all, albeit it is costlty for these beasts. I mean, what's a million pounds nowadays😂. Keep up the great content boys.. #WhereIsMiraslav?😂
Once again a great video and great content. Impressive that after 100k miles the only main issues are in the heads/valves. I suppose this can be concidered as "expected" after this mileage on the RS4, or is it unusual to have occurred? Will it be a relatively cheap engine fix/refurb? Keep up the great work and content please.
Super interesting stuff man. 👍 The cylinders look pretty good. But I'm not there. What about the pistons getting updated with aftermarket? Are there updated or better ones? I have bronze valve guides on my V8 intake and exhaust. The guide itself is pretty thick and sturdy. In my estimation this engine saw lots high RPM revving and the oil was too thin. The pistons did ok but valves were affected. I think the intervals were long but not terrible. I ❤your videos, music and lights and all. Please keep doing what you are doing for those Audi-lovers. Many things we love are not easy always. Thats life. Owners need to do their own changes using great oil and a Fumoto drain valve ..:or have you do changes for them
Mine has 192.000km bought it when it was 163.000km. Did a full rebuild, all chains, clutch, flywheel, new pistonsrings, cleaned the whole engine. Next up crazy all in on exterior. I do oilchanges after 5000km no matter what.
B7 RS4 needs saving and whatever work needs doing the owner will probably agree. The guides being worn so little is a testament to regular oil changes.
Found this really interesting, if I’m honest I’m surprised there is issues at such low mileage especially on a V8, but I’m comparing it to say the 2UR-GSE 5.0 V8 with 417bhp in the Lexus ISF which go 250k and still dyno full power without any issues besides wear and tear stuff such as Brake discs/pads etc. I suppose if you like the way the car drives you pay the big bills….to you guys 😉
that toyota motor is excellent, however this engine made very notable power at it's time of release with only 4.2 liters of displacement it also revs quite a bit higher than the toyota. when you put it into perspective it makes sense why the rs4 engine would wear quicker
It's expensive to overhaul a modern high-performance automobile. Very few people do it. It will be nice to have this car refitted and ready for it's second life. It will make for a nice cars and coffee story.
Nice to see the engine and your commentary on its condition. For the piston rings, is that something where you'd put the piston itself in an ultrasonic cleaner to get the rings all cleaned up? Is it worth taking the rings out in case there's a fragile one that you find needing replacement?
Great work! Question - Would you recommend someone to own an RS5 b7 b8? What are the issues with it? Any major headachs? Please advise because i planing on buying one.
Hello guys, after seeing your video ik have a question about the break in period. I have bought a new Golf GTI 245HP witch will be delevered in januari 2024. The car will be uses as a normal car, no racing. How do i drive the car for the first 1000 miles so i have the best change that the engine will not become an oil burner? I would appreciate your opinion a lot! Thank you for making the videos, it is so interesting to see you guys work!
Quick question. Ive got an Audi RSQ3 2016....Ive had a small ecu tune put on it. After about 2 months a VERY small puff of blue smoke pops out on start up....but its not using any oil....over fueling residue from the tune?

Looks like this engine was ready for a refresh. The manufacturer would label all this as fair wear and tear. Great video, thank you.

Interesting! I'm curious to see what the machine shop recommends with regards to the Alusil block.
I didn’t realise the RS4 V8 had a trapdoor sump on it. Excellent video👍
Yes, the earlier B7 RS4's have what's known as a baffled oil pan to help with preventing of oil starvation at high g-forces.

Every time I read or watch RUclips, most people say: Change the oil regularly. If you do that, you will have an engine that works well.

B7 is most likely restoration project , B8 around 60k can have broken spring in head , cats , injectors, chains
What do you thing about A4 B9 2016 2.0 tdi 140kw 190 hp DETA engine what should I expect? Just replaced timing chain and water pump.
Replace piston rings, valve seals, deck the heads and redo timing and good
Great I guess that is a £20 k plus restoration but it is an exotic car
Surprisingly little tear and wear on them rod bearings!
Hi VAG Technik, what is the update on RS4 B7? Is it fixed now?
There's absolutely nothing wrong with that block. Cylinder lining looks beautiful.
Yes , it only need everything else , price separate is more than second hand engine in full again

good job

No, polished basically

Tear

Nope

Smoke alarm in need of a service
can you please invest in a lapel microphone, so difficult to hear you when you are at a distance from your camera.
Lack of service..poor quality oil..and poor engine design.all together make for a nightmare
That is a "poor" condition RS4, not "average". I'm at 142k without any of those problems.
Check for roll backs otherwise I don’t believe any Audi rs mileage
Infact do a video on how too so people know what really goes on 😂
I’ve learned a lot from theses videos! #1 is don’t buy a Audi!
#1 don’t forget to change your oil after 30.000 miles 🫡
Change oil every 5k .with pennzoil.euro 5w40..and don't beat it to death with the rpms..but then again it's a VW..not a maserati or ferrari.
Unless you want to enjoy your life and have some money to do so.
Please say “wear and tear” not “tear and wear”….😜😜
Ill write it down to the wish list

In a performance car you should and it’s good for it
Typical VAG product. Burns oil and wears out quickly. The Japanese are thanking the Germans for their poor build quality.
