Adrian the owner of this RS5 found us like most of our customers now here on RUclips. He explained to us the situation with the car that it might need probably timing chain. Again the car was standing for a long long time and it came on a recovery truck from a different workshop. After we inspect the car we find this...............
If you live in the West Midlands and you need tracking or tires we definitely recommend A-Line in Dudley.

I understand now why Audi resale value plummets after the warrantees expire, lol.
Great video. Thanks!
As a B8.5 RS4 owner this is refreshing to see how thorough and transparent you are. Awesome video too!
Very interesting. You handled a difficult situation and made it look easy. Clearly a master technician who not only is talented but also sensitive to his customer's needs. Not found in most mechanics. Also, convinced me that I won't get another Audi. Pulling the engine to change timing belts is bad engineering.
Thank you Frank
Well this is not true in all Audi's, I think this is just something of a big engine in a relatively small car. With a 2.0 TFSI or 1.8TFSI I can't believe this should be done, neither with the 3.0TFSI (but I don't know if thats delivered in this car). I've got a Polo 1.2 TSI with 300.000km, chain has never been replaced. Car runs on LPdi (liquid phase direct injection of LPG) - no soot produced, so no rock hard particles wearing down the chain I assume... Also It doesnt have a cam adjuster, so one less part to wear either way! But if the chain fails (like many did, this one did get a modified one in the first years as well) - you do not have to remove the engine. (logically imo hahaha)
BMWs are worse, if you can fathom that!
Cars and engines do break. It's not a common issue - these engines have very few issues so I don't understand how could this turn somebody off. I've seen some VERY unreliable engines running a long time no issues and I've seen some very reliable engines break. That's normal. It's mechanics, moving parts and things go wrong. There is no such thing as an invincible engine or well good luck finding one. As a BMW owner I can tell that all brands I've looked into have problems, some have more others less but there is 0 guarantee for anything in world of mechanics. My 2004 BMW E46 has 440k km on the counter and still running with it's 1st timing chain but still some things could go wrong even today.
@@bq5577x I have the 2.0 in my b7 A4 and the timing engine has to come out to be replaced. I’ve had it done and it was so expensive I could’ve bought a better car.
Your one of the best, or maybe you are the best vag technician that I've seen. You have great content, and you describe everything very clearly.
This is simply one of the best video I’ve watched showing how complicated and complex the rs range is to work on .
Right it’s like you need to be a engineer
The good thing about these cars is that the owner dont need to be worried about rising gas prices as it is only a small fraction of the running cost anyway.
The more of your videos I watch the more I love my 2007 Chev Malibu. ROCK ON!
I’m amazed that you can do all this, beautiful to watch
It's so sad that the chain adjusters and guides are the weak link failures.
But you are a superior surgeon
Good job. I can honestly say that outside of the Audi race team, you are probably one of the most skilled Audi mechanics. I look forward to viewing other videos.
LEGEND!!! As always you make it look so easy!!!…DOCTOR AUDI does it again A pleasure to watch your work🤘🏾🤘🏾
“Big bill, Big Bill comming” 🤣🤣 - great video, very methodically done. Great work 👍
Very nice to see an expert at work
Was thinking about buying a B8 RS5 as a fun run about with a loud exhaust, but thank you for this video. I've come to realize the error of my ways hahaha
Its seems so easy when you do it...youre great , keep up the great work👍🏻and keep filming those projects greetings from the netherlands
it does not look easy even when i watch it, i had simultaneous pain in belly and ass
A skilled technician and clearly very dedicated. Watching this was therapeutic
I did not expect the editing at 20:40 that was pure gold.
I do my own work but I'd definitely let him work on mine. Nice thorough job.
Very well filmed! What a huge job this is!
When my b6s4 jumped the exhaust cam on bank 2 (drivers in the us) was about that far out. The plastic guide on that heads chains broke apart completely and ate the piston and spring. Wouldn’t be the first time I’ve seen a vag engine jump only 1-2 teeth at timing failure.
What an ordeal. All of those repairs. But the test drive, and those incredible V8 sounds…totally worth it! But, of course, I’m not the one paying the bill. 😂
Awesome video thanks for sharing.
I strongly believe that you can work on the space shuttle. As an AUDI ALLROAD owner (2001) 2.7 it's been a long hard journey and in the process has made me a part time mechanic.
I am actually an anti-german car guy but I liked and subscribed, kudos to you and your work. Keep it pro.
Your a clever guy, a superb technician. I’m so glad my Corvette LS1 V8 isn’t as complicated. Audi have come along way since my urquattro was their top performance machine. Now their cars are a 1000 times more complex. Great video 👍
I actually came from a LS1 to an Audi RS5 lol
Keep doing good works for us bro it’s very interesting
So I'm guessing that small misfire during the road test was due to faulty plugs? You guys seem to know Audis/VW like the palm of your hands. It would be interesting to see what challenges some of the other cars in the yard present. Keep up the good work!
I've just subscribed to the channel. I will definitely bring my car's to you. I went right back and looked at the videos, top mechanics.
Amazing video. So much skill and knowledge of the mechanic. Thanks for posting this.
I’m lucky to have found your video love it good job bro
You’re an amazing car mechanic! Bravo !!!
Super video again- Buying an older Audi really is a lottery when you look at the work involved to get this car’s engine back to spec again. That’s why I buy Japanese cars and bikes, the sort I can service myself. Don’t get me wrong, I appreciate the technical specs of an engine like this but they are never going to have the reliability of a V8 by Toyota for instance as the build quality always seems lacking.
I must remember never to buy an s4/s5 or any of them for that matter thanks for the great video and information good luck.
Damn man it’s crazy you’re such a professional mechanic. Sort of remind me of the “car ninja” how he is with bmws you’re with Audi’s
Wow! what a amazing video!! great job!
Without this sort of knowledge and skills, I can't see how these cars will ever get past 25/30 years old...
every car can get past 25 or 30 years, but cars like this will take (ten)thousands and (ten)thousands of dollars
Depends how you treats them also. Where you live, climate if it’s cold and below zero a lot than a lot more west and tear on cold starts etc, salt and snow build up, hard acceleration and revving, drifts burn outs etc.
wow, giving a like for showing all the steps and work + explaining them.
Amazing channel this. Such a clever guys. Amazing work.
You are the best car maintenance chanel Wow 👌🏻 Pozdrowionka 😉
Luckyli, I watched this video after I bought my RS5 V8. ;) I am owning from 2015 and has 120000km on board. As you also mentioned these are prety issue free engines, I did not have any problem with the engine or even with the whole car by now. Nothing. However there migth be exceptions, as for all type of cars. Obviosly I change the oils and consumables regularly and I use only OEM parts. I am using the car only for long trips and on track days. I did carbon clean with nuts but did not have serious carbon deposit on valves. Love the car.
How is the car now? 1 year up date?
@@claycrawford9009 Still in love :). +10000Km no issues. Replaced rear rotors and pads because of wearing
yo i’m looking to buy one, it has 100k miles on it things i should look for or ask the downer??
@@zoltanjaszalso can you give me and idea on yearly expense to maintain it, i’m in college i don’t want to make a big mess out of it being unexpectign
Before buying the car take it to an Audi authorized service and ask for a general test. And the most important check the car's service history. The most important is the regular oil changes. The engine and gearbox are very sensitive to the oil change. Most of faults' root cause is the missed or wrong oil change. @@ssingh358
Hello ! The videos and content you show are super useful! Can I ask for more videos related to VCDS diagnostics, coding and programming? I think it would be useful for many people. Greetings!
Brilliant channel and content many thanks!
I’m no surgeon like your self, but damn you made magic here❤ S5 v6 owner 🎉
Awesome video guys. Love to have mechanics like you in Canada. Most mechanics do not want to work on any German cars. Not sure why because all the new cars have the same technology now. Anyhow keep up the awesome work. cheers
It's videos like this that make me realise how lucky I am to drive a 2006 Peugeot 107 which has never required any maintenance except tyres, a rear exhaust box, and two font ball joints in the last 16-years. Great video, You do a complex job very well.
Yes but you have to be seen in a 107 🤣
@@davog1946 Cars are done, ride bikes.

I'm at the stage that MPG is more important than MPH,and dropping 7k on repair bills just isn't happening, nice motor though
Your car garbage
Fantastic video for understanding what has to happen to replace your timing chain on the RS5 4.2!
It’s just mileage and luck of the draw. Better to perform this service before issues occur.
I really enjoy your videos. Greetings from the USA.
You guys make great videos! 👍🏾
Great job men,Nice two See Profs et work!
Hvl.
Much respect for your skill set…
Excellent video, start to finish. thanks
Very cool, interesting, and informative...thanks for sharing!
Lowkey love how your just like ya so we gotta drop the engine
Another great and informative video. 👍🏽These cars are far too complicated & over engineered. Only one place for these types of cars, I.e scrap yard!
another very cleaver video keep going love the music in the videos❤
brilliant work ,wish you where near me even just for S4 servicing
Great content, experience and knowledge, gained a sub and 👍🏽
Great video! Enjoyed it!
Interesting video and very nice how did you do everything with valves and timing chain.......well done sir!respect. 💪
Great video! I only wish I could have watched it a couple of months ago. I just did the upper oil sump on my 2015 RS5, so since the engine had to come out, I did the timing chains, guides and tensioners too. It's a big job, but lots of fun. Just for future reference, the cam adjusters do have timing marks on them that are supposed to be lined up with little "half moon" marks on the head. It's not in the Audi repair manual, but apparently it is possible to put the adjusters on in a bad position. I learned about this from a Lamborghini mechanic who works on a lot of Huracans which have a very similar engine.
3.0tfsi have them , but this doesn’t, reason why they have them sometimes is that the adjuster didn’t have grove alway around and you have to fit it only to one position for the oil feed otherwise it will not work
We dont need take off engine if we want replace just timing gear
Top content as usual guys 👌👌
Briallant job once again what a knowledge you have. Expensive car to repair.
Really great video !
I own a 2015 S3 with 165,000 miles. My dream is to own this exact same car. Excellent video.
Read my reply to a comment above.
Fantastic work
Great job guys. These arent mechanics they’re surgeons. High quality craft displayed with full transparency for the customer 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Wow how much did they pay you to write that 😂😂😂
Wow, this is an expert knowledge and a quality work.
Good video and nice work .
Amazing skills mate great information 1👌👍
Saddest day when I sold mine. But there was no way I was going to be dropping the engine evrytime. THIS ENGINE GAVE ME ANXIETY LOOKING AT IT 😂 lots of respect for you bud thank so much for the content!
"THIS ENGINE GAVE ME ANXIETY LOOKING AT IT" OMG that's too funny 😂😂😂😂.
Amazing. Such a good work. My favorite engine!)) Like!
This is so good! I’m struggling to get a slot for my car at this garage! Highly in demand
Great video man , just amazing work you have performed. I was in the market for a 2015 rs5 but am not so sure this will be the case now after watching this . I mean 80% of the time you need to drop the engine is just crazy and going to stay away . Take care
i am looking at a 2009 and a 2010 but seeing this confirms other sources about the timing chain (and fuel pumps) i might pass as well. thnx
Really nice work
good video, well presented and highlighting why VAG makes VAGE
Good job, Doctor
I have this exact problem with my RS5 right now. Been chasing the misfires for nearly 5 months. Plugs, coils, carbon clean, new injectors. Done it all myself. Be checking this next week. If my timings out. Sad to say. But goodbye car. I've poured about 5k in to it already(mostly for the gearbox) and a 7k bill is beyond my reach now. But thanks for the advice. Great video. 👍
Mine is not an RS5 and not even an Audi, but I'm in the exact same situation, I have been chasing a misfire on one single cylinder from the day I got the car. Got a new timing chain, plugs, lambdas, timing solenoids, coils, tried all kinds of injector cleaners, additives, high octane fuels, prayed to car Gods. At this point I'm afraid that it's got low compression in one cylinder and if that's true then bye bye Alfa Romeo.
Damn man, that sucks. I know the feeling, dumped $6k into my transmission and like clockwork, started having issues with motor (LT1 with 140k miles). Hope you can ditch your RS5 without losing too much money. I bet you’re gutted about having to get rid of it.
@@ultygamer Leaky Injektor maybe. You could remove it and clean it with an ultrasonic cleaner and some carb cleaner as cleaning agent. Guy called AliMECH made a video recently.
@@ultygamer i had a mis fire on 2 cylinders, chased it for a while, the misfire counter only registered at idle, otherwise the engine ran normal, turned out to be leaky injectors. you can test leaky injectors, at normal operating temp, shut off the engine and check the high pressure fuel reading, it should increase, mine decreased quickly to 5bar, it should have increased from 30bar to 50ish bar
I mean.. im all for doing things myself, but with cars like these..it really pays to let pros handle it from the jump. You'd have spent less not being cheap.
You have to pull the engine to get to the time chain...brilliant.
you are a master mechanic!
Great car! 2013-2015 model is timeless beauty! Awesome video guys! Do these engines have an iron liner/sleeve cylinder block?
Cool garage lights 😎
Cool videos man.
Wow those Audi seem a knight mare cracking vid brilliant stuff.👍👍👍🍺🍺🍺
Hi @VAG Technic, apreciate the videos and the effort you put in - that`s true dedication. I`m also passionate about cars and mecanichs in general - would have a curiosity maybe you can shed some ligt on the topic:) Why do diesel cars only have Tubors and none has a supercharger - at least I dont know any audis from 2005 onwards with supercharger on diesel engine - is there any limitation on whyt they put them on petrol ones?
Thenk you! thunbs up
great video great beard great informasjon!
I enjoy learning how and what you do to diagnose and fix issues with Audis. In regards to RS5... Would love to drive and own it but not pay for the costs to fix - LoL! I am happy and satisfied with my 2017 4M 3.0T supercharged Q7 - Hopefully I see a transmission service fluid and filter, front final drive and center diff fluid service on your channel one of these days ;). Looking into a used 2015-2017 Sq5 (petrol only due to residing in Canada...) in the coming week(s) & month(s). Any suggestions and/or tips? what to lookout when it comes to visual inspection top to bottom?
great video thanks
Love Hate relationship with these cars! Love the videos
Brilliant Job💯
I’ll buy that car with trust … u left it factory reset CLEAN and smooth WOwwww👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 am a dentist and it’s hard to find a good dentist.. wish I would it been mechanical engineer Iike you… 😎
Have to say excellent work.
To get the starter done in the car, service manual suggests dropping the transmission. Gonna say b8 rs5 makes for a compelling reason to buy an e90/92 m3) at least you don’t need to remove the engine to do the rod bearings.
In Greece an E92 M3 in good condition is around 40-45k€ right now though and an RS5 same condition around 30k€…
I've owned a volks cc vr6 4mosion exec 4 motion for 6 or7 yrs and I hit 120 at least once a day.. Outside of water pump, battery fuel pump brakes rotors, trans mission oil changes. sun roof fixing front struts. It's been the best and fastest car I've owned in a while. but I think people need to learn preemptive maintenance and listen to your car. Please follow the maintenance book on your car
