It's the second of It's kind for the MC finding strong buddies, but probably the first Isekai.
I am liking this show but if you think it’s unique, you just need to look harder. For one, try watching Realist Hero for another show about not-all-powerful isekai’d japanese man recruiting to find the real power for his new nation.
Slime Tensei's MC isn't focusing on becoming strong, just creating a place for monsters and humans to coexist.
You know the irony of Isekai like this and to a lesser degree, Rezero. Anything different is automatically great when it's so typical and lacks imagination.

@@PhilCrownzHe knew S was strong. But until this scene, he didn't have a baseline to compare it to. So he wasn't prepared for just how powerful she actually is, especially since that was the first time she'd ever cast a spell.
As a loose example, a MOAB carries just under 19,000 pounds of explosives. Anyone would understand that means it's powerful. But would they understand how powerful if they've never seen it?
Theory and practice are 2 different things. Experiencing something firsthand, even if you were prepared, can be extremely shocking. For exemple, you know death is a fact of life but if you see someone dying in front of you, especially someone you love, you will feel it deeply for the first time. Here he knew she was strong, but seeing the huge blast, sensing the heat and hearing the sound of the spell, not to mention factoring in the context of it being the first time she ever used magic, it’s not surprising he was shocked.
