that cobra clutch thing is so genius! my drummer and i have talked about how the only double bass option for the hi hat is open, but not anymore. such a genius...
The best thing about him is that he never shows off. Other drummers have so many drum solos and such going on, they just make me want to quit playing. Gavin however, inspires me and drives me, not to play like him but to play like my self.
saw him yesterday at a drum clinic :D fucking awesome! i asked him about the live fill he does at the beginning of halo.. and he spends a lot of time trying to answer the questions... really great guy! he Is GOD! i love him... definitely The best drummer ever! cant believe i actually got to have a sort of conversation with him :D Gavin FTW!
i totally know what you mean, but hes definitely far from the only one. theres tons of drummers out there that are incredible good and super humble/really nice at the same time, like almost every death metal drummer lol
I agree, that guy is so down to Earth and he's seems like such a great dude. Same with Mike Johnston, but as a teacher you kind of need to be that way.
@tjdrummer13 I could not agree more. I auditioned for a band last night. Got a text this AM saying I'm in...yes, we gelled as a unit, but after we played they stayed and chatted for a good 2 hours.
Proud to say I knew of Gavin back in 88 when he played on Sam Brown's cd. I instantly knew he was a top player. Everyone has jumped on the band wagon since then
Lamb of God's drummer, Chris Adler, is amazing in his genre and is a real down to earth guy, or at least was when I met him. But you are right, they are few and far between.
I f you want to eliminate all the buzz of your snare go to your local supermarket and buy a washing up sponge. Make sure its about 5 inches long and about an inch thick. Lay the sponge along one arm of the cradle and then lay the snare lengthways along the sponge. Works everytime. Give it a go..
Not a criticism in any way since I too use the Remo Controlled Sound Snare head, but if Gavin likes to use 1, 2, or even 3 O-Rings to get the right amount of dampening, shouldn't he be using a head like a Pinstripe? Steve Gadd uses one on his snare drum and seems to dampen the sound for him just fine.
Has to be the best AND most humble drummer out there. Credits the sound guy on a couple occasions (by name), says hi to a 'passerby', and then shrugs off several novice questions from the interviewer without a hint of irritation. I do wonder why he uses two of the same A custom sizes.. Maybe certain songs require it on the off-hand? Useful tip on the snare tuning as well, that buzz is always a bitch.
NOW is the BEST no Doubt !! No Bruford. no Copeland, No Collins...No Mastelotto, No Katche, No one around Jazz world.... This is a Genius, like Fripp or Gabriel or a hundred Thousand more people about music around the world.
having that personality definitely gets you a long way in the industry, being a prick will set you back alot. The amount of auditions i'd say i've gotten through just based on the chatting after the playing. Not that harrison even needs it...
Really? Huh. Learn something new every day. I met him after Dream Theater's gig in my town and he didn't seem like it. Not that I don't believe you, I just find it kind of ironic.
Awesome. Gavin is such an amazing musician.
i hate how slowly I'm copying all of his equipment but it all sounds so good i cant resist buying some of his cymbals.
That hi hat clutch thing, NICE!! Really want one
Those hats sound heavenly!
3:57 an a custom.
background: WHOO!
Thank you for the advise for minimizing on the snare buzz. I'll try that when I'm at my next band practice.
Loved that “Circles” Gavin played on. Can’t seem to find it anywhere, it’s like it disappeared
that cobra clutch thing is so genius! my drummer and i have talked about how the only double bass option for the hi hat is open, but not anymore. such a genius...
Awesome little tuning tip at the beginningThanks for posting.
The best thing about him is that he never shows off. Other drummers have so many drum solos and such going on, they just make me want to quit playing. Gavin however, inspires me and drives me, not to play like him but to play like my self.
awesome sound of the 7" & 9" zildjian custom crash bells are darn hard to find!
i love the song unsettled it's amazing i used not to know about gh05, now that i know i cant quit listening to them!
@GeminiMind529
but thats the best way to go, which makes your job better and easier, its awesome that he has so many sponsors!
Wonderful video!! What a great look into his equipment and set-up!

@DanDeePee you are spot on, i was just thinking the exact same thing and then i read your comment. He's so bloody awesome!!
Great guy and Genius Drummer/Musician!
I agree, that guy is so down to Earth and he's seems like such a great dude. Same with Mike Johnston, but as a teacher you kind of need to be that way.
@DanDeePee I would also have to say Todd Sucherman is truly modest and humble, but you make a good point mate.
@tjdrummer13
I could not agree more. I auditioned for a band last night. Got a text this AM saying I'm in...yes, we gelled as a unit, but after we played they stayed and chatted for a good 2 hours.
Great musician and obviously a great guy.
so cool and down to eart..much respect dude ! \m/
lo mejor en bateristas del mundo, unico en su clase.
Gavin is awesome.

what kind of hats does he have.. i know there K's but what type and size.. theres so many types.... eg mastersound ,hybrids, sessions
I need that freaken hi-hat stand!

Zildjian should start marketing those bells-theyre frickin awesome
@bearseatingdrums its probably some kind of slicknut, so its easier to take the cymbal off, just a guess though
I really want meet gavin and get some serious drum talk on lol
He is the reason I play Sonor and Zildjian.
2 people were searching for Gavin MacLeod Love Boat Tour and stumbled upon this by accident.

I think its about the flexibility of the sound. With the Pinstripe you only get one sound. Dampened or not.

he's fuckin brilliant, amazing drummer and sounds like such a nice guy =D
I think Ryan Van Poederoyan is maybe the only other i’d say fits that description. (i doubt i spelt his last name right...)
@whoareyou134 Then I guess Terry Bozzio's kit is the space shuttle?
thank u for this vid
It's not... that's the lighting at the vene. We had a handycam.
I want that cobra cluch it looks so much easier to use the double bass
hard to hear the questions and answers with the music in the background!!!!
3:15 in. How do I make a 5 cymbal holder like that?!
6:08 Gavin just picks his snare up and lobs it like a frisbee haha.
NOW is the BEST no Doubt !! No Bruford. no Copeland, No Collins...No Mastelotto, No Katche, No one around Jazz world.... This is a Genius, like Fripp or Gabriel or a hundred Thousand more people about music around the world.
@kerplunk89 i thinkl it´s "Unsettled" with Ric05 from album Drop /watch?v=BEbAlC9F9fw&feature=related
i miss when he used to play 20" crash of doom
David Jones "drums" is another killer drummer, very humble and musicial like Gavin and Florian Alexandru, check him out if you have time :)
i like that cobra clutch, but that thing is so fucking expansive!
that's a real drummer right there
Anybody know where to get a hi hat stand like that?
that's cool i didn't know that you have meet every "really amazing drummer" in the world.
what kind of sticks are those that he uses i didnt catch the type

Why two 19" A customs?
gavin is amazing- just after neil
@GunMetalSparkle have you heard of Mike Portnoy? Now that's not a Cockpit, it's a friggin' plane!
I don't know if thats true. Mike Mangini is a pretty nice guy.
@Remko1024 HAHA Good point.
omg.,, this is the 3rd Gavin's video on youtube, introducing his cymbals and always forgetting the hihats. I think it's on purpose.
3:58 ☠️
Derek Roddy and Mike Mangini are two that seem super nice guys. Billy Cobham too, there's probably way more to be honest...
having that personality definitely gets you a long way in the industry, being a prick will set you back alot. The amount of auditions i'd say i've gotten through just based on the chatting after the playing. Not that harrison even needs it...
@CasamiaStudios MINE
i just made mine its really easy
forgot the hi hats
3:56
If you dont like them flying out then get some Moon Gel!! Hell... Get some Moon Gel anyway!!!!
that's not a drumkit, it's a freakin cockpit!
Why putting music while he's talking ???
he's fuckin brilliant, amazing drummer and sounds like such a nice guy =D he sounds like he's trying to sell him the kit lol =P
Wish it was easier to hear what they were saying
Really? Huh. Learn something new every day. I met him after Dream Theater's gig in my town and he didn't seem like it. Not that I don't believe you, I just find it kind of ironic.
@oBIGxREDo 22x17

@Alphastyx7 musicians friend dot com
what's with the background music and low levels on the audio.... almost unwatchable, but as a hardcore GH fan I slogged through it ......
Did you white balance?
tre cool ic rlly cool guy too :D but he is kinda crazy :D
Gosh. I'll buy anything that he sells. Haha
what's with the fucking background music blasting over their talking?
Lol at 5:50
i hate the backround music, i have to really listen to them and try to drown it out
Everything apart from the drums... kit tour
Gavin seems a very unpretentious person but maybe Nicko Mcbrain too is not too bad, for his celebrity...I hope it's a correct english
Puts Portnoy to shame man.
PAISTE is better
he's a gay...a nice gay.
