    So... it's a novelty high tech shoe with the weight of a hiking boot, the stack height of a maximalist shoe with the protection of a racing flat with barely any propulsion/bounce; all for the price of a carbon plated racer? Just great!

      Pretty damn comfortable for just casual use. I feel the cushion in the new lattice design and have 2 pairs because they are super comfortable. Will definitely get another colorway when they drop. Now for actual running I couldn't say. I use Saucony Freedom 3's for work which has PWR Run + Foam and these 4d Fwd's have just as much cushion and even more so in the forefoot.

    I have them in the Tokyo colorway. For me, they are still much too heavy to go running with it. The midsole is very well cushioned and much softer than previous iterations of 4D midsoles (but still very hard; almost every foam is much softer), but neither bouncy nor do I feel any significant propulsion.
    I do like to use them casually or in physical therapy though because they are very stable. For running I find them totally unsuitable and I don't understand how Adidas markets the shoe as a running shoe; the 4DFWD is a step in the right direction, but they are not there yet.
    The knit is really comfortable but the shoe is a bit long, I would also buy 1/2 size smaller as you recommended.
    Great video, really enjoy the way you review shoes 👍

    The whole idea of the midsole seems similar to what On does with their Cloudtec. Does it have a similar feel to that?
    Also, do you think someone with a heel-strike would have more overall benefit from the shoe than your mid-foot strike? In the B-roll, the whole back half never seems to compress due to your strike.
    Still, I love to see shoe companies throwing things at the wall to see what sticks technology-wise and experimenting with stuff like this.

    • @kofuzi
      @kofuzi  3 года назад +14

      I believe Adidas has said that this shoe benefits heel strikers more than forefoot strikers.
      And even though the feeling is a bit different, I think there are a lot of parallels with On CloudTec. Neither is as cushioned as it looks or should be.

    I don't get this midsole design... If it "compresses" forward, then the "release" force would surely be backward and hence counterproductive to forward running momentum?

    • @gaelguilloteau3179
      @gaelguilloteau3179 3 года назад

      I’ve thought about this exact thing. I’m brought to think about ones running gait or motion even the flicks of kofuzi running in this video. When I think of the full running motion … landing > the foot being planted before exploding off backward > the 4d being flexible enough to compress forward but then in the motion of the kick backward that compression shift to release aiding the foot kick. When i think of it this way it makes sense to me.

      What size do you recommend I get?
      I’m true to size in Jordan 1’s.
      in basketball shoes and most running shoes I have to go half a size up to an 8.5 if there snug.
      My foot is on the wider side and most runners have a narrow foot compared to me.
      So usually the size recommendations of runners I have to go a half size up to get a similar fit.

    I'm currently in the market for a pair of running shoe. I am still wearing the black and orange ones that I bought sometime last July, and about 2 months ago holes began to form on this shoe. Near the laces were the crease would be on each shoe, so four holes there. at the top of each big toe, and on the sides where my pinky toes are. soon my right pinky toe will be able to peep out lol. I don't run much, but I did use them as everyday shoes for casual walking, and jogging. Im disappointed that in less than a year, $300 CAD shoes had begun to show damage and fall apart. They are still the most comfortable running shoe I've owned, so I'm still on the fence about buying another pair.

    I always wonder why running shoes should be light? Shouldn’t you always train with a heavier shoes to you can burn more calories and gain more leg strength? I got the OG 4D, it’s heavy for sure, but it’s stable for off trail runs too.

  • @kentm7731
    @kentm7731 3 года назад

    It’s great innovation but I feel its strength would be realized in running if the midsole would be based on your specific gait and step pressure data you get when you go for a proper fitting at a specialty running store or foot doctor. Then have that submitted to Adidas to get your custom shoe delivered. Then it would be well worth the premium for those really needing stability. Could also be a game changer if it results in increased running economy. Only time would tell.

    In real 4D-technology is Not Just 3D-print. After finishing the 3D-moldimg/midsole-element the midsole-element gets covered by dipping it into the material (Fluid before reacting with the 3D-print Material), which Covers the 3D-print at the end. Here the Dimension "time" comes in, so it's realy different to Just a 3D-print.

    I’ve retired my ASICS Nimbus and tried Adidas 4D1 run. It’s not so bouncy this my knees doesn’t hurt after I finished 10-12km jog. However, my ankle hurts. (I’ve hurt my knees during my army days and operated on them. Thus I slow jog rather than run). Given up on the 4D shoe. But I would like to say it’s stable. My knees feel fine and good. (But maybe it “forward throw” you as per the tech it says, it cause my ankle to hurt?)
    Anyone has any good suggestions for a nice pair of comfy shoes for my weak knees and ankle to do 10-15km jog? Thanks man

    I have with those 3 different model of Adidas with 3D printed soil: are all very cool sneakers, love the futuristic look, and are tremendous comfortable. But are not running shoes. I don’t understand why Adidas is make the same mistake that Nike made when was selling AirMax as running shoes. The everyday running shoes from Adidas is just the the ultraboost and for anything else carbon plate is the technology.

      AirMax started out as running shoes and then became casual. In the 90s, those were the shoes.
      VaporMax is probably the better comparison. A shoe that is positioned as premium running but doesn't quite resonate with runners

    These Adidas running shoes aren't running shoes: they are too heavy, the real drop is too high, the forefoot is poorly protected, and the knit top is too soft to hold the foot properly. It makes for a comfortable shoe to work in. But so do Sketchers and they cost a fraction of the price.

    A commitment to 'end plastic waste' is double-speak nonsense, consumer capitalism cannot produce an eco-friendly shoe for as long as they peddle the lie that you need new shoes every few hundred miles.
    I really wish we would stop obsessing about shoes as runners. We have such a beautifully simple sport and these a-holes make us think we need all this wasteful cr@p to take part in it.

      Rich Roll and Adam Skolnick discuss the two ends of this spectrum frequently on the Roll On episodes of the Rich Roll podcast. (for example, whether meat-less meat is good for the environment).
      my current feeling is that we don't need to pick one approach. our solutions can be multifaceted and with different time scales. but perhaps this is a reflection of my own inertia rather than an assessment of what we need and/or what will work irl.
