Nice elevator. We've ridden it before when using the Metro. It has since been ripped out and replaced by three high speed elevators as part of the Rosslyn Central Place construction project that was completed a few years ago. Those long escalators there are still in use and are some of the longest in the Metro system.
3:20 Well typically the main cables on an elevator are near impossible to break because they were designed very over engineered and also the reason why the capacity says more than what you can fit into an elevator is actually another safety feature that prevents the cables from snapping because you wont ever get to that high of a capacity in the first place even if you somehow cramped the cab full of people
5:21 Ive actually heard up in europe and the Uk where dewhurst elevators are more common theyre actually not very good in terms of how well they run but unlike those this elevator runs really well
Also the safety governor should probably be bidirectional because if an elevator’s brakes fail and it goes into freefall it will typically go upwards since you are under capacity meaning the counterweight is heavier than you and the elevator cab its just the contractors that approve businesses to install elevators cant get the idea of a bidirectional governor in their heads
And even more unfortunately, the 3 new elevators that replaced this one are absolute crap. They can't seem to go 2 days without one of them breaking down. In fact, even as I'm writing this, one of them is out of service due to a "Customer Incident" (which is Metro-slang for "someone got stuck in it"). For this reason, I usually refer to those new elevators as "The Rosslyn Fail-o-vators." By the way, they still haven't bothered ripping out the old elevator yet. I was just there the other day, and it is still sitting there doing nothing.
"I normally don't film escalators, but I think I'm gonna film this one." Yup, this is a backlogged video! Wow, nice view of the machine room! Kinda wish I stopped at Rosslyn now.
Awesome video! Dieselducy, you need to get back here after Monday October 7, 2013 when the 3 new high-speed elevators will be unveiled and put into service officially. Sorry RUclips wouldn't let me post the URL. Google, "Rosslyn RSAI" should be first or second hit.

Correct
This elevator is in VIRGINIA, NOT DC. Also, this elevator has been decommissioned.
Definitely one of the nicer metro style elevators I’ve seen
It was decent

Correct
Why does the floor indicator always show "S"?Shouldn't it show "T" and "P" as well?
This elevator has sadly been permanently decommissioned. :( At 4:05 where that crane is is where the 3 new high speed elevators are

Aw man that sucks.
@@HiFiAndElevators22 And they don't serve the Plaza Level.
The new elevators are high speed bottom drive tractions with the elevator being pulled by the top. Rode them in October 2020
Not Washington, DC. Location is in Arlington, VA Rosslyn section.
Nathan Delaplaine Stands for Street.
the shot I got of you here at 3:43 is the closing shot I used for my documentary about you (Elevated: An Uplifting Community).
I wish I could see that documentary. It would have been cool. If any one know where or how to see it, please respond.

You can't listen to the motor because the fan is running
