@Jeff Brown Yes, I agree completely! The rivalry between J.R. and Cliff is what drove the series, for the most part. Larry and Ken were both great actors and they played their roles very well. Dallas needed both of them and the show was very lucky to have both of them in the cast!! :)
JR once described the battle between him and Cliff as a Mouse yapping at Lion... And most of the time that's what it was, but on rare occasion Cliff did his licks in, and in the end Cliff did end up a big time wealthy guy.

A most impressive scene to stage, with Afton jogging to the door, and Cliff going to the refrigerator, with no cutaway shots. That took a considerable amount of staging and lighting work to pull that off seamlessly. Additionally, I'm impressed with the part of the scene where Cliff has to go to the freezer for ice since the ice bucket was empty . . . that must be a "first" for a TV drama; as have you ever noticed on TV shows and movies that the ice buckets are always conveniently filled with ice when drinks are served.
If I were Cliff I stop trying to screw over J.R and get a relationship with Afton she seems to really like Cliff and all he sees is war with J.R forget him work a relationship with her
Afton was a beautiful and honorable woman who deserved much better than Cliff. Yes, he perfected the art of losing like no other person. I feel so sorry for Afton in this clip, she was such a good person.

Afton could seem like a little bit of a dumb Blonde sometimes on the surface, but she wasn't a dumb lady and oft times could impart some wisdom into a situation. She treated Cliff better than he deserved, and she deserved much better than him.
I don't feel sorry for Afton. She was an opportunist. She slept with JR at Lucy wedding let him pimp her to men then she meets Cliff fortunately his mom is rich and when she died she left her money. She stayed with Cliff even after she knew that he still loved Sue Ellen. Cliff could have a relationship but he hated the Ewings so much and tried to outdo JR that it took over his life. The Barnes Ewing feud should've died when Jock and Digger died but it was a good storyline to keep the show going.

Cliff Barnes was ALWAYS his worst enemy. He always went out of his way to blame JR, but he NEVER took responsibility for his own actions. I mean look what he did to his mother's company, and he had this coming. He used money that his own mother gave him, and he screwed it up. He had it coming through too, and later on, JR's son John Ross did the same exact thing to him. Overall, Cliff Barnes was exactly what JR said he was. He was the world's biggest loser.
