Audrey Landers was so great in her role as Afton Cooper. I think she was the most heart breaking character on the show because Cliff never did love her. At the end when she tells him he is the coldest man you see the pain in her face and that statement sums up her entire relationship with Cliff which was really one sided.

She stood by his side all the time and he dumped all over her. She was good to get rid of him fast.

She spoke a lot of truth in that scene. Cliff was no better than JR, and was self-absorbed. The only person he really cared about was himself and his own need to one-up the Ewings. He soured his relationship with a number of women, and even used Pam and his Mother to get what he wanted.

I was too! But I wish she would have stayed around longer when they brought her back. She ended up leaving pretty fast.

It was not right how Audrey Landers was never featured in the opening credits. Afton did much more for the shows than April Callie and Michelle, who all got included in the opening titles during the shows later years

Afton was more than that idiot Barnes ever deserved. When he attempted suicide after losing Sue Ellen and his mother fired him for embezzlement, Afton kept vigil at his bedside. She was also supportive of him when it looked like he was about to go broke the previous episode. But Cliff in a drunken rage threw her out. Cliff was an idiot in business and relationships.

As much as I think Cliff is a little worm, I actually felt bad for him because he's not the one that shot Bobby in the first place. It was his half-sister Katherine Wentworth LOL! But Afton never gave him the chance to explain his side of the story.

The problem? She MIGHT have if he didn't look and sounded pretty much like he was celebrating Bobby getting shot. He should have canned the attitude for that occasion. But he couldn't. Its odd, but Cliff, even more than JR, was so obsessed over the feud that he couldn't stop himself from being a jackass whenever a Ewing got hurt by this point.

That didn't surprise me. Cliff just was an ass, and he always had a tendency to just run his mouth, and everything. He just never knew when to actually quit, and everything.

Oh, you think he was celebrating Bobby getting shot? Did you even see anything leading up and following this scene? He was celebrating his strike in the Gulf, not Bobby being shot. I swear people who think Cliff was the bad guy seriously never once paid attention to the actual show.
And to say Cliff was more obsessed with the feud than JR.... then why did JR constantly (including trying to bankrupt Cliff in this very strike in the Gulf) try to set him up? The only character who can honestly say he attempted to screw over every person in his life, with no remorse or attempts to make things right, is JR. Cliff would do things against those he loves, then try to make it right.... JR, not so much. So anyone saying Cliff was "just as bad" as JR, needs to get their head examined.

Stephanie E I am glad someone actually sees things as they really were. JR was a snake with no conscience. I went back and watched the beginning of this series up until about season 8 and in the beginning Cliff seemed to be a decent guy. The writers seemed determined to have Cliff constantly lose to JR. There were even times where Bobby and JR would gang up on Cliff. Bobby once punched Cliff out for sleeping with Sue Ellen as if Sue Ellen didn't deserve some of the blame. I actually understand some of Cliff's ill feelings towards Bobby here. A lot of these fans think JR and the rest of those crappy Ewings can do no wrong.

Oh yeah, somehow JR always was forgiven for the way worse crap he would do, yet Cliff was never allowed to defend himself, make a better life for himself, etc. Yeah, Cliff would lose to JR a bit but he also would win too. I always likened his character with that Babe Ruth quote, "You just can't beat the person that never gives up." And Cliff never gave up, even if he got kick a few times, he never stayed down. And eventually he won 100% of Ewing Oil and JR was the ultimate loser.
Even in the reboot (which I hate so much to even reference that garbage) Cliff was a multi-billionaire. But life I said, I don't much like referencing the reboot because after watching the entire original series four times, to me that was not the real Cliff Barnes in the reboot. So many re-writing of Dallas history in there it's gross lol

Cliff ruined a good thing for himself because of his greed and selfishness. He was not a romantic person and only cared about money and wealth.

I think she made the right decision to leave Cliff. He always semed to be so cold and egotistical. . He's no better than JR!

    • @derekmathews1818
      @derekmathews1818 8 лет назад +2

+James Hendrick, well I am not have seen the original season, but that about seems him up. All that coldness and being egotistical is what cost him the only woman he ever really loved. He was so caught up with the Barnes/Ewing feud, it destroyed him, it destroyed his love for the only woman that ever loved him, it destroyed his relationship with his sisters. That feud hurt a lot of people on both sides.

Cliff's no better than JR..... really? Did you even watch the original series? Clearly not.

Both Cliff and J. R. did some bad things. But J. R. did a lot more bad things than Cliff did in the original series. So J. R. was the worse one of the two. That said, I can understand Afton's reasons for leaving Cliff at this point. He had treated Afton badly for quite a while and took her for granted. He should have been treating her better, like she deserved, all along.
