  • I built this 1973 Honda CB-500 Four into a cafe racer.
    It was a super fun little project that still has some mechanical work to get her back on the road & running again.

    My late best friend used to restore old early 70s Hondas for a hobby outside of his normal job. cb450s and 350s etc. Make them look new, sell them and then find another to redo. His last one was different. He took a cb750, put a modern triumph front end on it and a ducati rear end/swingarm on it. Had a company called Hindle custom make a 4 into 1 header. It was his last project before he passed. I have a Valkyrie Interstate. He rode a 82 Gl1100. I often thought I should buy an old Honda to have a bike like he would have restored.

    Did you RIVET on the rear hoop? If anyone ever ride pillion that is is just waiting to fail. Just run a bead of weld along that interface.

    Love your videos! If you’re looking to add more content to your channel I’m not an expert nor a RUclipsr by any means but you could always make separate videos just for you cutting the rear and mounting the new seat. Or working on the carb. Or even just installing new handle bars and just break down the videos. Overall I really enjoy your builds and want to see you keep posting! So thanks 🤙🏻

    Ouch, a second year CB500Four in nice shape. This hurts. At least you didn't completely butcher it like another person I just watched. This cafe racer stuff is hard to watch. The absolute worst was this moron that F-ed up a FIRST year CB750 Four to make his "dream bike". That's criminal.

      I also think that the bike looks a lot better in original state.A Giuliari seat with some sport handlebars would do it for me. All these so called "Cafe Racers" look the same. I wouldn't think about raping my '75 z900 like that.

  • @nsname3295

    Great build, honestly the only thing I'm confused about is when you used WD40 under the grips. I have a hard enough time keeping grips solid with alcohol wipes, grip glue, etc. I usually end up blowing compressed air into the grip to create an air pocket while I slide it on. I have never seen anyone use lubricant under a grip. I'm not judging or criticizing I'm genuinely asking, is there some method of success to this that I've been missing all these years. Thanks!

    I don't think I would put any passengers on that seat. That rear hoop has little to no structural value just being screwed into the old frame. It should have been welded in place if you don't want a passenger falling into the rear tire when the screws pull out.

    Great video, subbed! Great solution for mounting the rear end for those who don’t have a welder accessible! Also question, what material did you use for the seat pan?

    • @nsname3295
      @nsname3295 Год назад +4

      I disagree with this, I feel like that's an accident waiting to happen. Aesthetically it seems to work, but functionally and structurally it isn't providing anywhere near the support it should. I would caution you or anyone not to do this, but that's only my opinion. I'm sorry you didn't get an answer to you materials question. It's something I wanted to know as well.

    • @pablosanelli4241

      Bro an inverter welder costs 50 dollars as much. If you have money to get a 550 Honda you can afford a stick welding machine. That thing he did with the bolts doesn't seem to safe, can be a temporary solution but I would put my life on two bots

    Trying to keep constructive here but i’m not agreeing with the way you mounted your rear hoop. Weld it please before you or your passenger have an accident with it. Also keep making new videos with improvements on this bike. I’m sure it will turn out even cleaner in the long run!

      Hi, you're 100% right on welding the hoop. I don't have a welder & this was to hold me over till I could get it welded. I would definitely not want a passenger on till it was welded! Thanks for the constructive feedback!
