I bought the same lavender tree from Rona last year. I left on my door step all winter long and the tree branches looks dead so I just took them all off by cutting them. So now it just looks like a stick in a pot. Will it grow back or did I just kill it ?
What do you do with your plants during the cold & winter months? hopefully this is still going to notify you of comments/be read even tho it's 2 years later.... {I was in New Lisbon, about an hour either way from Madison & La Cross, Eu Claire, 30ish from Sparta } & my experience was spring/summer was about 4 months, beautiful weather at a gorgeous 70°+ with snow still in the ground, & 8 months of winter & snow through-out the year😉 this was my favorite part of WI, going to the water park with crazy inches of snow in the ground in bikinis bathing suits & shorts & tanks! It was my favorite part outside of going over the glass floor in castle in the rock/seeing the worlds largest (indoor?) pony hurricane 😉!¡! I just got into gardening/growing & harvesting herbs & plants so I'm finding older videos & posts so idk if anyone gets notifications on or looks at comments from 1 year or more....
GREAT VID and GREAT follow up! Being a new gardener I put rooting hormone on ALL cuttings, so thanks for the tip on not having to use it. Saves me time and $$! ❤
Someone made me feel silly for getting excited about lavender "trees" a couple weeks ago- I was condescendingly told that it's a TOPIARY. So now I'm here to do the same to you. 😂😂😂 They are so cool!
Keep in mind that the stem of the lavender tree might be from another species. The garden center may have let the plants grow up u til full size, then cut them into topiary form, or they may have grafted the lavender plant onto the stem of an apple or other tree. Grafting means slicing into the bark of both species, then pressing them together, putting tape around the wound and allowing them to grow together. If you take a cutting below the graft point, you may not have a lavender
love the video. thanks for sharing. it would be great if you had a quick shot of what they look like after 2/4/6 weeks and when they should be planted in the ground or transplanted to their own pot.
From S. Korea. Just bought a lavender seedling without much info about planting or lavender itself. I've found this video very helpful. Thanks many thanks.
Word of advice for everyone, take multiple cuttings, don't try with 1 or 2 and wait the 3-4 weeks to find out. Be more generous, I've never had great luck with cloning mine in the past but I have gotten a few, I wasted a good bit of time only doing 2-3 only for them not to make it. Around mid spring I like to trim mine back a bit as I normally get a second bloom, during this time I'm able to get 10-15 good cuttings, and while I don't have a great record with it brute forcing it is kinda what I have to do and I'm getting a few each year. I always feel like I'm doing it wrong, I like to learn more, but yeah my advice would be to take as many cuttings as you reasonably can. The clones make wonderful gifts for family members.
I purchased the same lavender “tree” at Costco last year. Unfortunately, it didn’t over winter well for me. But I will still be on the look out for one at Costco this week before Mother’s Day.
I've never had much luck with cuttings but my English Lavender is doing so well I want to try again. I think this video showed me my mistake. I have watched numerous videos and this is the only one that specified where to cut.
I watched your video a while back on propagating Rosemary cuttings. I grew them in water and it worked! I am going to try the same thing with Lavender, and this time I will try both Lavender and Rosemary in soil instead of water to see if it is different.
Thank you very much!! Happy youve enjoyed and please feel free to check out some of the other videos on the channel, not every one is this same style but theres a lot of information on there when it comes to all sorts of gardening tips and tricks! Happy Gardening!
This is so far the best video I have seen and I am now a loyal fan. It's clear to the point (helps with my ADHD and dissociation massively) And I have never heard that about root powder before. It makes me inspired to not keep holding off till I get around to the stuff. I love it THANK you SO much for the video.
Nice, succinct video. Thanks! Hope to try a couple different propagation options, and happy to hear that even though it's getting into Summer, I can still give it a try and possibly get some positive results :) Happy gardening, Bob :)
Great video - super easy to understand and follow. I've looked at several instructional videos but this one is the very best one!! Quick & Easy 😊👍 Thanks so much!!!
Just came across your video following seeing a lavender plant for sale and thinking, why buy that when I can make my own 🌿 ❤️ my neighbours have beautiful lavender bushes so I'm going to take some cuttings from them (consented of course haha). Thank you very much for explaining how to do this in such layman terms... I'm not really green fingered but with your help, it's fool proof 😊💚 thank you!!! A nice little project for me and my 4 year old 💚🌿♥️
Thank you for your helpful tip in growing lavender. I love lavender so much and have them in my garden. Your information on planting lavender is so amazing. I didn't know I can cut them that way and plant them. Thanks so much. 😊👍🇨🇦
I have had trouble getting French Lavender from nurseries and Bunnings in Brisbane Australia, which I love the best, I do have a small plant now though so now Ive seen your video I will try to us a cutting from it to grow more, thank you very good and easy to follow video.
Love your video. Thank you. I am going to take some cuttings from my large lavender plant and try to make a few tree lavenders. Your video has been the most helpful in learning to propagate them. Thanks again.
that's really a nice potted lavender bush you have there ripley. never grew it but used the oils to help me sleep comfortably. thanks for the info. carmine p.
Thank you so very much for this video. I have been wanting to see how to grow from clippings for a while now. I took cuttings today and put a bunch in soil and water. I can't wait to see them grow.

Thank you so much for your very helpful tips. I wanted to create more lavender plants with the two huge ones I have so this will be great. Thank you. I hope the larger lavender can be cut and repainted the same way.
I didn't know that I even had lavender in my garden til this week! Kept buying random plants last year. Going to try to propagate now. Wish me luck. Do you have a video on how to do the topiary?
I am searching through the comments for anything topiary-related & found this comment. I agree he should do a Lavender Topiary Video because I bought 10 of them from Lowe's & I want to maximize the likelihood of their success!!!
I've taken cuttings for White Buddleia and Hydrangea's and made a video on these about 3 years ago. Also took cuttings for Spirea, Lavender and Hebe's.
Hi thank you this is so simplified and great I love it! I have one quick question… I am in Northern California and I am just about to trim back my lavender as most of it has bloomed… Is it too late for me to start some young plants.. can they just grow long through the fall etc.
Is there a reason why you placed the cuttings at the edge of the pot versus middle? I want to propagate Provence (French Lavender), will this method work?
Thank u so much... I've been trying 2 propagate my lavender this year but had no idea what 2 do... I was putting it in the water + it jest going mouldy... now I know...strip the leaves!! Lol... anyway.. thank u...💜✌
Great video thank you but how much of the old wood that meats the new wood do I keep on the cutting? cm? and then strip all the leaves off them thank you

Concise and straight to the point as well as showing novice gardeners such as myself what "cutting" is and how to do it! Thank you!

I don't use rooting hormones but I don't put them into soil 1st.
I water first until it gets roots
I had success in 2020 and I'm back for a refresher. Thanks bro, great video. Straight to the point and clear demonstration.
