Great video, thanks 👍 Crazy how that happened on the last fish. With bluefin putting gear and angler to task, wild situations can happen awfully fast. It was good to see the fish get landed without being in a rod holder to do it. Down here in San Diego we put the rod under the armpit or in the hip. Tight lines and following seas 🤙
Seriously! We got lucky the rod didn't fall into the water. I think next time they're going to add in straight rod holders in the back of the boat so it shouldn't be an issue with the bent rod butt. Can't wait to get into some more action!!
Cool video. I used to fly fish in Washington in my time in the Army, but I recently moved here to SoCal after discharging out the Army. This looks phenomenal and congrats on the catch. I need to find me some friends and give my shot at saltwater fishing!
Thanks for watching! A lot of fun fishing to do out in this area. The Eastern Sierras have some phenomenal fly fishing, and summer time out here you could hop on a party boat and slam tuna
I dont hate it when people use the rod holder to fight fish but man it is so much more fun fighting them standup. I would strongly suggest getting a harness and straping into a big bluefin, super fun experience. Also i dont live in California i live on the East coast but isnt the limit on bluefin like 2 per boat over there?
Yeah! I agree that does sound like a lot of fun, and probably easier on my back. The rod holder situation on top was not friendly to the lower back at all, but it’s what we had to do this time around. It’s two per person

Giant? Nova Scotia fishermen..."Hold my beer!"
Dude I know! I think I would die on the spot happy if I caught one of those monsters. One day. Giant for our neck of the woods here.
Get safety lines for the rods.
100% agreed, this would’ve saved a potentially catastrophic failure for sure
Looks like your at the 43 lmao lol 😆
Why do you grab the line when the fish is close? Doesn't that just negate the whole purpose of using a rod?
Even with the reels we are using, the fish will max out the drag making it take longer to bring in. Using the gloves help bring in the fish faster
He’s speaking to my grabbing the line. That was because I was trying to keep the fish from getting into the motor.
@@citronique oh I completely misread that whoops!
You DONT!
@@citronique Maneuver the boat...team work.
Do you know how much pound test mono was in the reels
I'm not 100% certain off the top of my head, let me ask the Captain. I'll get back to you
150 and 200
That's my cusin Israel from the 805.
Great guy and an even better fisherman!
@@WildCaughtOutdoors awesome video.
