Hey Mark think twice about getting in a vehicle with Tom Hanks: Captain Phillips - boat problem Polar Express- train problem Cast Away - plane problem Sully - plane problem again Apollo 13 - spaceship problem
Just watched this with the family, we all enjoyed it. The only slight problem I had with it was Jeff sounding a bit too Borat, kept expecting him to go "Niiiicee"
I like how these more indie type films are going mainstream with good actors. I enjoyed Finch. Tom Hanks is always brilliant and he didn't disappoint here. The CGI was great, the prod values were great, Jeff was very good even though he sounded a lot like Borat to begin with. Most of the humorous bits landed and the emotional bits were somewhat emotional but it would've been nice if there were more ninjas cutting onions. They tried but not enough or didn't quite know how to add emotional gravitas. I feel like if they nailed that then this movie would've been next level, instead they took the safe route. I noticed a lot of Imdb reviewers were bored and fast forwarded through a lot of the movie which of course takes you out of it and makes it not worth watching anyway. Yes, it isn't a Marvel action movie and you need patience but I wasn't bored and thought the pacing was good. The only thing I didn't really like was the ending. Granted I'm not sure what else they could've done but isn't that the whole point of a movie, to show you something you don't expect? It would've been awesome if there was a twist or something different happening instead of just finishing quite abruptly doing exactly what they set out to do. Again, the safe route. Still, definitely a good movie and worth a watch imo.
This movie started nearly scene for scene the exact same as WALL-E, like literally almost identical. Shows a disaster stricken world, full of dust. A lone individual going around clearing areas, and then comes a massive sandstorm that the character has to run from, and barely makes it home in time. I'm a massive movie fan, and can usually enjoy the more slow burners (like "The Road") when other people find them boring. But this one definitely fell pretty flat. I think one major problem was the immense inconsistency of the music, and then also the emotional content of the music. It wasn't a bad movie, and it at least went somewhere with the story, but overall, it felt held back and too.
Just watched it. Derivative of everything from Cast Away to Wall-E to Short Circuit (with a little bit of Death Stranding). Still, it was gripping at times and very sweet throughout
This seems like the most Neill Blomkamp type of film that wasn’t made by him. Tom Hanks, a dog and a robot in the apocalypse, sounds great to me. Looking forward to seeing it.
Finch is dead and plus the movie was about Jeff mostly I mean it was about finch and Jeff but they called it Finch because Jeff would’ve been a dumb title Part 2 would be only about Jeff and good year(the dog)
As soon I heard the robot saying rule 4, protecting the dog superseded the rule about not hurting people, I immediately thought that would go very badly wrong when the robot turns against Tom Hanks to protect the dog
The most heartwarming movie i have seen in a long time between a human, dog and a robot in a not to distant future where most of the humanity went down in a disaster around the world. Watch it when it sure is worth the time it last.Just GREAT. Yeah, me and my dog watched it together.❤️👍
It’s Short Circuit with Borat the robot. Moved along slowly with pretty below average 3D environments. Should’ve been 10 minute short for a VFX house. I see why some may find it charming though.
The dog is called Goodyear, by the way. (Shades of Bob Mortimer’s cat, Goodmonson). As for the film, it’s totally unoriginal, has science that you cam drive a coach and horses through, and is over sentimental. They even add a 4th to Asimov’s 3 Laws of Robotics - sacrilege.
Movie was a let down, loved the world it took place in, love the effects and the look of the post apocalyptic world…but….. it was a slow burn with a flat empty ending. Best parts of the film were the elements
I agree, they could have pushed the story more. The scenery and effects were good throughout, but I thought Finch and Jeff clashing with other human scavengers along the way would have made for some good action scenes, which the trailer deceptively hinted at. Once they left the base with the storm coming the film turned into a slow burn that somewhat fizzled out.
I agree 100% I can’t believe people actually like this movie. I’d give it a 3/10 for visual effects and Tom Hanks doing his best with a boring script. Jeff was basically #5 from Short Circuit. I cannot suspend disbelief for AI that is smart enough to learn, talk, drive, and walk while also acting like a fool and lying when driving a bus, making dumb cute jokes, and trying to learn dog language.

It was a mix of Borat/Jarjar Binks in robot form meets Tom Hanks in i am legend without any real action or drama the connection with the dog was a little forced, It ran at a sluggish pace with nothing new to offer a waste of Tom Hank`s talent to be honest but that`s my opinion 5/10.
Apocalypse movies made in the USA always show people suddenly turning into monsters and attacking each other. This movie could have worked without the Mad Max in the background. Not sure why they had to set that background up here, except that’s what movies from there do.
While watching the film I felt for Mark at certain moments. Both my appreciation of your reviews and being aware of your love for Silent Running informed my own enjoyment of the movie at. Thank you. Just hope Tom Hanks doesn't turn up in his train when it come to _that_ o_O P.s The voice was like Borat + Spell interlinked with Ryan Gosling.
This is the kind of film that I didn't even hesitate to assume it would be no higher than 50% on rotten tomatoes. I was shocked to see it's got a 74% critic rating and a 67% audience rating. That is an incredible score for a movie like this that could have so easily been awful.
If people are genuinely blinded by the Tom Hanks adulation bandwagon, knock your socks off, but sadly, for me, this film was dull as dishwater. 2 hours of a parent arguing with a toddler. "Noooo... no... NO!! Put that DOWN. Don't do THAT". Absolutely hats off to the technical aspects, and Tom does his best, but the 'naive companion' narrative lacked charm or engagement, and more crucially, any fun whatsoever. Any and all perceived threats were consistently just shrugged off and I found Jeff, and his relationship to Tom, tiresome from start to finish. But, you know... Tom Hanks!! Yay!!
Did Finch (Hanks) die during the movie and it became a “heavenly dream” from that point on? All of the sudden the UV radiation had disappeared (butterfly scene) and he was able to step out of the vehicle without his suit. The heavenly dream ends with Jeff being able to take care of Dog and reaching the goal of getting to the Golden Gate Bridge.
Good movie I liked it but I had major issues. 1) He built the robot to protect the dog but barley gave the robot any dog care training. Robot didn't even know he had an impractical can opener in his chest the whole time. 2) That dog would not have lasted longer health wise than tom hanks. Let's be real, if Tom had it then the dog had it worse. 3) I loved Jonny 6 (Jeff) but where did he get his personality from but more importantly 4) Why did Tom hanks fail to use the robot to do way more practical things. He kept forgetting he had an op super powered robot with him. He could of stopped the rv & said, "Jeff, go deal to those guys chasing us, we'll wait here".. I would of changed the world with that miracle robot. He didn't even give the robot anything to do once the uv filled dog inevitably passes away. He's going to have no purpose in life but technically infinite life, that's irresponsible. Toms character treated that robot like an annoying teenager instead of the miracle that he was. He didn't even think to use him as a jack smh. Edit: Was still a good movie despite all of those logic holes, worth the watch.
Where's the character arc for the tedious 'Decent Tom' character? He's a self -professed coward, remains that way - and dies. Yeah, whoo-hoo - what a fascinating roller-coaster that WASN'T.

Tom Hanks, he's the best at what he does; and what he does, is be Tom Hanks.
Just watched this with the family, we all enjoyed it. The only slight problem I had with it was Jeff sounding a bit too Borat, kept expecting him to go "Niiiicee"
i thought exactly the same thing about Borat when i heard the clip....particularly the 'eyess'
I was thinking that but it was slowly the evolution of the voice
Man, that’s just what I was thinking watching this clip…👍😎
"Sorry." "And stop apologizing." "Sorry."
How did he watch it and not know the dogs name was "Goodyear "?

Love a Death Stranding link - especially on Wittertainment!
Have just watched it online. It's very good, quite heartfelt. Definitely worth watching guys.

Finally watched this. I really enjoyed it. The fact the film was quite sad made it more believable.

@ indeed
I really liked it. It’s about Trust. It was actually really moving. I wish they did some more world building. Maybe we’ll get a sequel
9/10

No because this rule is only if tom hanks is "absent"
I cried so hard at the end
The dog is not called "Dog". He's called Goodyear.
I said this too
And me,
I really enjoyed this pathfinder prequel
I was hoping for a 3rd sequel of Jhonny 5 or Short Circuit part 3,but this is the best Movie involving a robot since then for sure!!!
At almost 60, I am not ashamed to say I cried to this. Loved it.
Watched it, it made me cry like a baby
Love hearing Mark be so charmed by a movie.
I was watching this and skeptical but damn I loved it
Irobot + I am legend + cast away + wall E
Fair enough. Don't need to see it.
Is anyone else annoyed by him calling the dog "dog", his name was "Goodyear".... I'm guessing as he found him in the tyre,
He found him in a rucksack

Thank you for this review. The shortcomings are there. But Tom can elevate any film if needs be.
The robots voice sounds like someone trying to do an impression of Stephen Hawking.
"Feee...nn.shh. can. I. Ask. You. Something?"
Sounds like Borat

My feelings exactly. I found it just plain an annoying movie.
Applause *
You missed the point, the robot was doing an impression of Jeff from 21 Jump Street mixed with Borat. He nailed it.
Silent Running, Cast Away, Wall E, and the Road, no one has mentioned the Road, traveling to a coast for no apparent reason…..
Great review! Personally, I gave it 8/10. Sure, not original but I loved the ethos of the movie and Hanks awesome acting throughout.

This is very fitting, since Hanks is Geppetto in the upcoming Zemeckis movie "Pinocchio".
This is a post apocalyptic Breaking Bad sequel. Even has the robot Jesse wanted Walt to build when their RV battery died.
The robot sounded a little Eastern European, and then as it became more “human” is sounded more American. Hmmmmmmm.
The robot was with Finch all the time, so there's that. At least in a couple of moments, Finch did tell the robot to imitate him.
This Movie Was So Cute And Funny Had Me Crying At The End 😩🥲🤣💗Good Movie Tom Hanks Never Fails Us In Movies 🎥
