I don't exactly know if he writes a lot of his reviews down before he goes on air, but the way he seems to hesitate and lose his words because he speaks too fast and then, seemingly out of the blue, comes up with those quips and analogies, is absolutely brilliant. The prose equivalent of a car going from 0 to 100 in 2 seconds. And even if he can absolutely destroy a film he hates, his best rants are the ones where he's having a fun allegro meltdown.
@callmecatalyst I think Revolver is still my favourite. At least I think it's that one, where he does a hilariously dumb impression of Guy Ritchie at the end 🤣
When Mark said it was the stupidest film he's ever seen in his whole life, I started bouncing up and down in my seat laughing. (Because I have a ticket to see it tomorrow!! lol) Now I can't wait!
I saw it a few days ago at a Cineworld special screening and I’ve been waiting for MK’s take on it! It is so bad it’s good. Nothing makes sense, science is thrown out the window, laughably bad lines, and yet another big sci-fi film that takes conspiracy theorists seriously. But if you treat it like a rollercoaster ride/popcorn movie and just go with it, it is so fun.
I saw it today, and I have to agree 100% with Mark. I wasn't expecting too much but I spent the first three quarters of the movie in utter stunned disbelief about how *spectacularly* stupid the film was...then at the three quarter-mark something clicked in my mind (or perhaps it liquified into mush....) and I started to think: "hang on, they must _know_ how idiotic this is, it's actually being done with a wink, it has to be sending itself up..." Once I had accepted the fact that the film was complete trash, I actually enjoyed looking out for the next howler (and they were coming thick and fast). Oddly, I had quite a good time!
reminds me of when I watched a fast and the furious movie... the one with the tank and dom doing the flying through the air catch. I was the only person in the cinema laughing, and I was laughing so hard my stomach hurt. I got evil eyes from a lot of people, but it was worth it.
I couldn't believe how much the movie asks its audience to suspend their disbelief. So many things just happen abruptly and easily. Silly movies can be fun but this is just too much! I hated myself for sitting through the whole thing thinking it would get better somehow.
@@SlartiMarvinbartfast I actually considered re-labelling it a comedy for sure. The John Bradley megastructuralist character most obviously goes for the gags, but there are also quite a few unintentionally hilarious moments too.
I particularly liked how it took a full 47 minutes (I watched) before the male lead (a bizarrely incredulous Patrick Wilson) finally agreed to help save the planet.
This review lived up to my expectations! Lol. Makes it even more hilarious that Roland has been out saying it’s Marvel that’s ruined cinema when he makes films like this.
Saw it today and literally enjoyed it a hundred times more than I expected to. Even the annoying guy in the trailer pulled it off. Patrick Wilson and Hale Berry are a safe pair of hands!
I've watched it and I still can't believe what I watched. Kenmore does a great job conveying it, but I there's so much going on that you guys have to see it. I don't remember laughing so much in the cinema like ever.
I can confirm that me and my family had the most fun watching this out of everyone in the cinema. Bless them, they thought they were getting a good film instead of a masterpiece of stupidity.
I watched it with the wife on v-day and it was definitely fun disaster porn when you were on earth but definitely something I ended up geeking out over how wrong the movie was lol. Like Colorado wasn't gonna save em, in fact the population shoulda been wiped out by the halfway point of the movie. And then there were things that just wouldn't happen. It's a movie that was cool visually and fun to rip to shreds after.
If this film had not changed a thing but delivered the material in a different tone, it had the makings of THE GREATEST parody of all time-cant believe they played it straight
Love this review purely because without having even seen the movie the trailers told me all I needed to know , and your review Mark has compounded it by reinforcing the fact that it is a " Saturday night take your brain out " type of film .

A film with so many plot holes you could drive the moon through it (that’s not a spoiler by the way) 😂 It’s a mad film which I think taking from 5 films is an underestimate - my friend reckoned 11. But it’s worth seeing as long as you leave your brain outside 😂
It was a Friday after work. I'd had a long week and had been suffering from a bout of insomnia, and my partner said "oh, isn't that dumb film we saw a poster for out today?". We went to the early evening showing with only 6 other people there and it was exactly the perfect relief! So dumb. We groaned at all the cheesy dialogue. We laughed at all the dodgy science. And boy was I in stitches. The effects were good, the moon snake blob looked cool, I really took to John Bradley as a performer, and Halle Berry gave it her all like the trooper she is. The scene with an awkward bespeckled British dude sitting in a space shuttle sincerely using a slide rule absolutely made it for me. Utterly stupid, I recommend it.
This was my first Roland Emmerich film. I was expecting a ridiculous-yet-fun B-movie, instead it was just an ok B-movie. I felt it took itself a bit too seriously, so it doesn't feel as fun as the premise suggests
I don't think I've been more in sync with Mr Kermode. I was keeping a mental running tally of films that Moonfall was stupider than while watching it, and I ran out of movies. Watched this at the cinema this afternoon with our two boys. Utterly and truly dreadful but for reasons I can’t quite explain we were each (marginally) happier to have seen it than not. I think 🤷🏾.
It was all due to Patrick Wilson. He carries this film so hard he deserves an Oscar for making it serious when he could and fun when he couldn't. That guy is now criminally underrated. Halle berry was wooden as a board sadly.
