Gorgeous guitar man, and fantastic video, I'm picking a Japanese love rock up on Friday, second hand for £799 from my local store, they don't turn up often so I had to snap it up, the finish is immaculate and I onky had to play it acoustically to know it was on a par with my Gibson goldtop I sold last year, but at half the price. I've been scanning YT for useful vids on these awesome guitars and I've found yours the most useful. Cheers mate, keep on rocking, from England.
I have a Gibson with a 57 classic, and a Super 57. Also have a Tokai LS-80 fitted with Gibson Burstbucker Pro's. The Tokai sounds darker and fatter. The Gibson sound brighter and more present, with a bit more attack. Both great guitars though.
Great tones,I have the tokai ls100f which I believe is more or less the 95, I tried a few gibson lps and to my ear threw a Ac15 the tokai was the clear winner and mine is a keeper great all round guitar japanese build is just great the shell inlays are perfect,
I got a Tokai too, they tend to be a little brighter than Gibson, wich is something good to me because if you got too much, you can roll of the tone and get a warmer sound, but if you don't get this extra treeble, when you want to cut thrue the mix, well, you cant without treeble booster!
Fuck the comparison man (JK, I like them both BTW, they're a little different but a little tweaking here and there can help you adjust the tone to your preference), but THE PLAYING, man! You're a great guitarist my friend, very original player indeed! You're not just another stock-blues-licks, dull-rock-riffing guy, it was a pleasure watching your vid man! Thanks!
Tokai best tone. I just put a set of Gibson Burstbucker Pro's in my 1985 LS-80, OMG, what a sound(s), warm jazz, BB blues, Jimmy Page (really really close), Slash, Gary Moore, even Brian May!!! It shouldn't really do that last one, not even with the right amp/effects but it does, oh yes, it does.
True. Stock ceramics (500T & 496R) in the Gibson and stock MK2s (Alnico V, mid-high output around 12kOhm) in the Tokai. I can't remember the amp. I think it was a Marshall 2205 or Silver Jubilee. The recording quality is pretty bad.
I have a Tokai with Seth Lovers on it, and it sounds great, I had a Gibson and was not happy with the stock pickups, with 57 it was better but not at the level of my Tokai. But all this is purely subjective.
Real LP was quieter with less ohms (resistance). Magnets decrees in strength over time. Beats me why people pay thousands for weak magnet sounds. Just wind down a new LP's pick ups away from the stings for a few decades until they get old n wanky as well.

Tokai have more defenition than the Gibson, i.ll take the tokai

Tokai
💯
tokia winner! is this one made in japan? thanks
Tokai, here's why @0:32 & then hear the Gibson @1:48 . Tokai wins ;)
The tokai does sound ballsier... is there a difference in the feel of both instruments?
From reviews I have read the Tokais have thicker necks
Alot depends on pickups and pickup heights, would have been nice to know more information about the pickups. Also amp settings.

Tokai sounds muddy in the 1st clip, but sounds the best in the last clip.
Great demo, man! How were you getting that great overdriven sound? Just the amp, cranked? Thanks!
Tokai by a mile. The gibson sounds dull in comparison.
The Tokai is my favorite...sounds fuller...what pickups are in it?
i think the stock pickups. my father have Tokai lp's and the stock pickups works great!
:o realmente sorprendido, muchachos, con que marca se quedan ustedes?
Tokai ls100 owner gibson killer
Are these new instruments and what type of gibson? Standard? Because a 10 years old tokai 85 will be a 125 now or something (modelno=price in Yen).

For the 2k dollars difference I know what I would choose
?
Rocco Astoria Tokai
The Tokai....more balls and rawness
The Japanese Les Pauls just have that thing.
Tokay sounds a bit more open, - both have same character,- the fool pays 2000 the lucky guy 600 bucks. greets & rock on, Andreas!
If "lucky guy" is a polite way of saying broke ass guitar player then I'm a real lucky guy!
Where your Tokai love rock made??
Japan of course.
What pickups are in both guitars?
Stock ceramics (500T & 496R) in the Gibson and stock MK2s (Alnico V, fairly high output) in the Tokai.
that tokai, have coil tap,?
anton menn not have coil tap
tokai winner
Bottom line, all sound great. Tokai is cheaper.
gibson a little warmer
Lynne Morrow Warm or muddy?
The Gibson sounds flat.

Tokai seems way more articulate.
SOS
tokai sounds like Jimmy Page, Gibson sounds like shit
they both sound like tokais to me very thin and muddy
+AshStrat1 U can always change pickups
