I did have some problems, which after about 5 hours i resolved myself and to save anyone else from 5 hours of despair i will share what i did here. I am a little old lady who doesn't know very much about programming pianos Your instructions helped a lot, but for me things did not work. I went to Yamaha website they said that some usb's have a program set in them and we cannot use those. I did think it was better to format with the MODX, and once you know how it is so easy and you can format lots of usb's at the same time straight after one another - just keep putting them in an pressing format. I did just that and tried them all but still no luck. Several times i down loaded the update not realizing i was downloading lots of PDF files/manuals and read me files which i unzipped and added to the usb and put into the MODX. After many attempts i found out that i just needed the one file as the MODX wouldn't obviously use the PDF's. It still didn't work. I tried to unzip the file i needed on its own. Still no joy. Then the Epiphany came - what if i got my biggest USB and didn't unzip the update file and just put it on the USB and into the piano. I did that and then follow your instructions.... I had to hold my tired fingers on the curser 'up key' and the 'utility' button for very long time but as it passed the stages i got more and more excited. I am so amazing..... It worked perfectly. I've never heard of not unzipping something when it should be unzipped.. Maybe it was God who couldn't stand to see me struggle any longer and thought he would give me this one. Fiona PS. Oh! The instructions for upgrading are actually in the read me file that we download with the update.
on which site you have to go to download the sounds of the MODx 8 thank you and question what kind of USB key you have to buy is there any or one with a specific name how many giga maxi thank you
There's a website called YamahaSynth.com where you will find the relevant downloads. They have a sub-site called SoundMondo where you can find community sounds etc. And for the USB card, any standard SD card should work. I'm using a Class10 4Gb Card.
I noticed that you did not "Initialize All Data", in the System screen, when you finished with the update. Is this not necessary? From their v 2.0 Readme file it clearly states this last step to do: " 6. Execute the Initialize All function ([UTILITY] > [Settings] > [System])."
Greetings, I can't get the PC or Mac to see the MODX formatted USB. The new 8GB USB MODX formatted flash drive cant be read by Mac OS or Windows 7 or 10. So I could not copy the PMG updater to the USB stick. Please advise :)
That's strange. It's just a simple FAT32 format which both Windows and Mac ought to recognise. Maybe try a new flash drive? Sometimes flash drives can get faulty.
That means you didn't do the upgrade correctly. Please check if you've formatted the drive correctly, and make sure you hold the buttons for a few seconds as you boot until it enters the firmware update mode. Going by your comment, I'm not sure where you're facing trouble.

I've never heard of not unzipping something when it should be unzipped.. Maybe it was God who couldn't stand to see me struggle any longer and thought he would give me this one.

Yes. I'd didn't do that since I had some settings which I didn't want reset. The update still works fine. I eventually did it though. :)
will this work fo rmodx6+ as well. Im learning there is a difference

Can I update it directly from my mac. I can't get it to update. I keep getting NG retry
I think the process is dependent on the SD card. To my knowledge, you can't do it just with the laptop unfortunately.
