Have A Great Shave, Have A Great Day!
Geo.
Conan's response was excellent PR for you....congrats....keep it up
David Wright
Agreed! That was a pleasant surprise. Thanks Big Red!
Just had my first DE shave yesterday and it went way way better than i expected. Thanks Geo, for your helpful videos that helped me get so pumped and educated for DE and SR shaving! Cant wait to shave again and keep up with your vids!
I am a barber and I have been using Feather Artist club for more than 40 years. Actually,. I have 4 straight razors and those are very easy to clean up and the blade had never out of the holder during shaving. And it's pretty simple and easy way when I change the blade. There is the reason to keep on using the same razor ☺️
I bought the stainless steel Dovo shavette last week and man am i impressed. Not only with how nice of a shave it is, but with Shave nation. It took two days from when i ordered it about 10:30 pm to get to my house. No doubt that i'm going to only be using shave nation for all of my needs. love the videos geo, and keep up the great work!
this is the best tutorial on shavette's on RUclips I have found so far, thanks!
i love my Parker! thanks to you i am no longer a slave to the Gillette corporation. my first shave was really intimidating and i was shaking like a stripper. two weeks later i mastered it and am so comfortable. i look forward to every time i shave.
Nice to see you back Geo, I've been straight razor shaving for 3 months now. Today's my 18th birthday :D but anyway you've helped out a lot & I appreciate it! I will be going to Shave Nation for whatever my needs are. You've got a younger generation of wet shavers coming! Keep up the great work!
Your smile lights up this side of the pond. Lovely to see you back.
So cool that Conan approved of this message! Best shaving RUclipsr, ever!
Thanks. Changing once per week, at least, is good. And I thought he said that there were quite a lot of blades in a package, like 25 or 50 or something? If the cost of the blades aren't outrageous, then it would be very economical alternative to the so-called "modern" plastic disposables (which is nothing more than a way to keep us consumers buying stuff). I think that I'm going to go with a one piece blade straight razor that I have to sharpen my self. Now deciding on which one. Lol.
Definitely. I'm thinking the first could be a straight razor lying next to a shave brush in a photo realistic style. They'd both look like they just got used. A glance at it would cause someone to think of the numerous SOTD pics fellow shavers post on fb. The other idea would look something like a coat of arms;straight razor and safety razor crossed in front of a shave brush, done in flash style. I'm sure I could think of more, but those were the first two that came to mind.
Depends on the chip depth and where it is on the blade. If it is on the corner at the toe or heel, it would be easy to round the corner, That gets rid of the chip and makes the razor slightly more forgiving. If there is enough metal, the entire edge can be brought back. By this I mean a 7/8" can be brought down to 13/16" or 6/8" and be used. Of course, this changes the razor, and if it is of sentimental value or is a rare razor, you might want to just display it and get a Dovo.
Hey dude, I bought one of the Feather Artist Club razors from you and I'd just like to recommend them to anyone reading this. Great purchase and a fantastic entry into straight razor shaving!!
The Feather’s are the Rolls Royce of shavettes. My travel razor of choice. Gives a straight razor shave without the stropping or honing.
Well done Geo. Very educational and great production quality. Loved the close up of just the hands. Was waiting for the slight of hand! 😉
That dovo blue is calling my name. I think I might jump on it. I love that wood feather but it's too much for me right now. Shave nation here I come!
Long term financial benifits, closer (dare I say closest) shave, self sufficiancy, reduced waste, and the off chance that you might become a man in the process.
😂
I have the dovo shavette & bought the green insert as well. It is super slick & I have four different shaves in one shavette. I recommend personna supers (American made) & Israeli blues for blades. I use personna in each sleeve.. the best in my opinion.
It should, that's why I switched. the pulling of hairs will be lessened as well
Hey Geo thanx to you and your videos i have now started using a straight razors and safety razors and absolutely love using them and its good for a little me time in front of the mirror and love the results cheers dude love the vids.
p.s collecting them has become a little addictive cheers.
a weapon with style!
Which one is the BEST, top of the line, professional one??
These are the best shavette razors-The choice of professional barbers worldwide: shavenation.com/collections/feather-shavette-razors
It depends on a lot of things, like technique, your skin, how coarse your beard is... No you can't re-sharpen disposable blades, but you can extend their lifespan, using a Razorpit for instance... But with the thought of blade costs, it's hardly worth it, and changing the blade atleast once a week, is more hygienic!
Thanks for the great informative video Geo, I have been shaving with Gillette DS safety razors most of my life. I did get caught up in the Fusion hype for a few years but after fighting paying those outrages blade prices went back to my good ole adjustable Gillette L1 Slim (my first razor as a teenager). But after watching your videos on straight razors I think I want to give one a try. I think I will start with a shavette. Now the fun part deciding on which one to buy and then receiving and using it. Thanks again.
Good luck with it Sir! Enjoy the ride...
Geo I love your videos. I’d like to encourage you to try and maybe endorse the Focus Slim Al. I used the unrecommended Feather Hi Stainless Platinum blades due to my thick beard and had an an amazing shave that made me want to chuck my Merkur Progress in the bin. Over the Adam’s apple no issue. Love your videos, and this could be the one true amazing shavette.
Love the shave nation ball cap!
Another great video Geo. Thanks! :D
Hey guys :D Today I found an old straight razor that was my great grandfathers from 1912, and the thing is rusted over. I've been restoring blades for years, but I don't think straight razors and knives are the same...
What advice can you guys give me on restoring this blade?
Coca Cola, Aluminum Foil, Flitz Polish, Fine Steel Wool, Good luck!
Absolutely a gem of a presentation! Thank you so much. Geo, are the blades for the Feather style as cost effective as the regular sahavettes?
I wasn't complaining about the skills. I was just referring to them as a whole entity as in "skills". I understand that in order to use a straight razor you must have mad skills and an understanding of the sort. I'm not exactly stupid you know...
Glad to see some new videos, Geo. I was having withdrawels. XD
The japanese style non folding, look like nice comfortable razors.
You douing best shave content in RUclips . I love you : D
My greek brother is back !!!
I get the closest shaves ever using a Gillette djustable safety at level 9. It's hard to make a statement about the closeness of a safety shave as there are more aggressive and less aggresive razors. If you use the Gillette at level 9 it is a very close shave. Therefore you should go for an adjustable razor to get the closeness you desire. Get for ex. a Gillette Adjustable or a Merkur Progessive.
Are the replaceable style straight razors as good as the traditional kind?
In the long run they are much cheaper than most cartridge shavers. Replacement blades are incredibly cheap, even the good quality ones.
a 100 pack of good quality blades costs me 10 USD, while a 3 pack replacement of more popular razor cartridges? that'll cost more.
Just discovered your video stream-very useful stuff, thank you. Do you by the way have any military background? I always get that impression when I watch your videos.
Brilliant Video Geo. What is your opinion on the Dovo Shavette?
I know about the savings. I have a Merkur DE, though I haven't used it yet. (Too fond of the beard and I'm somewhat hesitant to take a single bladed razor to my face. I'd rather not cut my face. Of course, a straight edge, shavette or otherwise, is even more likely to end with that result..) I was referring to the Feather models, which, last I checked, cost more than $100 each? It has been a while since I've looked, though. I should have been more specific.
for the dovo shavette, there is a razor that looks like it, available on amazon for under $10, it's called the diamond edge shaving razor.
Does it accept 3 types of blades like the Dovo shavette?www.shavenation.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=303_10
I guess so, I have never owned one before
Check out the Muhele Acrylic clear handle best badger brush he has on his website, it was $59.99 last I checked, I have one of those and a Muhele Silvertip badger that was $119.00 and they are hands down my two favorite brushes! the best badger brush will lather circles around the boar bristle brushes!
Hope it helps!
Hello get! Just started shaving, and for my first razor I purchased a cheep shavette to get some practice. After a few shaves, I've noticed the razor feels really small in my hand and I can't get it to lay completely flat on my face. Not to mention the actual cutting edge is smaller then a straight razor from what I have gathered on your videos. Any suggestions?
Hi Geo
I just discovered your channel and have watched several videos all ready. I'm thinking about making the switch over to either a safety razor or straight razor, but i feel like I'm completely in the dark.
Very nice video! Thanks Geo
Great vid Geo!
Is it at all possible to shave your head with a straight razor? I shave my face, head, and other regions. Is it simply, practice will make you better? Any good techniques for head shaving?
I currently use a Dovo Shavette. Have done for a couple of years now. I was just curious for Geo's opinion on it.
nice infos, now the videos for each type of shavette =)
Derby,Astra, Astra Platinum, Shark and Dorco Blades, which is better with my Edwin Jagger DE89bl for a once a week shave?
Will the Kai Captain blades work in the feather artist club razors?
I'm guessing that they will but I figured it isn't a bad thing to ask.
i found my grandpa straight razor called manganese its chipped on the blade is it safe to hone and sharpen and use?
lol I was watching your sharpening video the other day then, just now seen Conan video response.
...replaceable-bladed models, how does the shaving experience compare with, say, my Merkur? Great video!
How many shaves does one usually get out of these disposable razor blades, and can any of them be re-sharpened?
I have some straight razors that I received when my grandmother passed away. Is there a good way to identify the quality of the razors? I love the idea of shaving with the same razor my great grandfather used, but have no problem opting for a newer straight razor and setting these aside as heirlooms.
How would you compare it to regular safety razors? Is the shave that much closer even considering it's the same blade?
My brother gave me a Merkur and an Edwin Jagger safety razors for Christmas. I've just about perfected my three-pass shave with these. How different is it to master slinging a straight razor? And with these Feather replaceable b
Can you use a straight razor to shave your pubic hair? Or do you need to keep the plastic razors for that?
great vid, im gonna order a straight razor soon!
geofatboy Through how many shaves should one shavette blade last?
Hey i heard if you are in a pinch that you can use newspaper as a strop is those true ? Not all the time just once !
Hi,
I have been looking into getting a straight razor, watch a lot of your videos, very helpful.
I know which one i am going to get, but new to this and dont know how to strop or hone. I have watched your video, got confused, do i need both those strops or just leather? So i need brush, bowl, soap, straight razor, strop, honing stone. Sorry for the doubt. Im from Scotland, i dont know anyone that uses straight razors, not even a barber. Any guidance is appreciated
Please respond thanks, Richie.
can u strop the disposable blades to make them last a little longer?
@Geofatboy: which shavette would you shave everyday with if you could only buy 1 at the shave nation shop in price range $18-25? I want a cheap one that I can also rely on
I'm really looking into getting a Feather Japanese Style razor, but I'm upgrading from a Parker shavette. And I have one of those Van der Hagen boar brushes, I need an upgrade bad. So my question is what is a particular brush that you use on a regular basis that's nice & around a $60 price range?
The options are endless so I'd just like a better guided answer
-Thanks :)
How would you compare this type of straight razors with the traditional style straight razors (where you need to hone and strop)? Which gives the best/cleanest shave? And which of the top/high-end would you recommend as the ultimate badass best straight razor? Thanks in advance.
Shavettes are really nothing more then a DE razor. Yes it sounds weird but the only thing they have in common is the Shavettes handle are designed to look like a straight razor. I use a shavette tho u have no problem with it.
clinton fisher
Still less of a chance of a nick with a safety razor in my opinion, and more of a learning curve with a shavette.
The Feather shavettes are the cream of the crop when it comes to replaceable blade razors. Their injector style blades have been called ninja-sharp!
A properly sharpened traditional straight razor will get just about as close.
Check out the straights by Dovo or Boker and choose one with the blade and scales/handles that appeal to you since you're going to be shaving with it
yay a new vid! and a good one too.
Hi Geo have not seen a video for awhile; i would like to move up to the Feather Razor,
but ive heard they are "Wickedly" sharp..How do you Like them?? can you make a video using one??
Great video!
What straight razor do you recommend? And which one you use ?
hi i want to buy a barber's razor, but might not know what to buy?. can you help me please.
I knew this guy before Conan!...Lmao
Ty for the new video.
why do i find this video so interesting ?
What is the difference between a shavette and a traditional straight razor is one sharper
Also is there a difference between a shavette and a double edged safety razor
Thanks
A shavette is the same as a straight razor, except that with a shavette, you can take the blade out and replace it. With a straight razor you just have to sharpen it. Neither is definitively sharper because it all depends on how well you sharpened your straight or what brand blades you put in your shavette. A double edged safety razor is 100% different than either of the other two. I'd recommend googling a picture of one.
Geo what would you suggest to use for doing shape ups and keeping my sideburns nice and neat?
great review..what does a Japanese style razor cost?
Love my Dovo shavette I bought from shavenaiton. Whats the shaping insert used for?
Thanks for this video!
How is the shavette cleaned after shaving?
rinse it under a strong stream of water. Disassemble if needed.
I'm planning to buy the feather razor as to add to my collection but I dont know which one suit me the most, whether it is the folding or the japanese style razor. Thinking of the long term use, I think the folding one is better compare to the japanese style since the japanese razor has the rubber handle which I guess it's not gonna last long compare to the plastic handle. Any suggestion??
Sheikh Aizat
Some people prefer the straight Japanese style and some prefer the folding type. It's purely a matter of personal preference. If you can't make up your mind, get them both.
Thanx for the video upload
I was looking for this comment :))
Thanks for the info.
Eg. Your feather artist club razor is $142.99 on your website. Well I found it on another website for $75.75 w/ free shipping. Now if my math is correct that's a $67.24 savings not including your shipping fee.
Tell me what website it is.
I can't even buy the razor for that amount.
I get my Feather products straight from Japan through their US distributor..
Beware of counterfeits.
And at www.shavenation.com/ Shipping is FREE on US orders over $99.
It is probably a counterfeit.
TOO GOOD!!
i want a shavette.any recommendation? helppppppp pls
Wow this is weird I randomly found this channel and then just saw that Conan O'Brien made a response video to this, crazy! #Whataretheodds
So am i !
wierd thing is i saw this video before it was on conan
Team Coco!
I prefer standard straights, more work yes but then you won't need to buy anything else besides soap/cream and aftershave...
Could u send me a sample of Taylor of old bond streets sandle wood? I just checked out your website and bought a shavette
buy it! and get extra long blades for it!
COCOOOOOO COCO! clap clap clap
I wish I could afford one of these
so the view count is 12007.
lets see Conan's power!
Good Vid
You owe Conan a gift basket.
