    Underrated mod: Player Request Crafting Layout. It sets your logistics request to match the production tabs, which is super useful to not have it become a mess, and still easily find where you set a certain request.

    Some of my favorite other non-game-changing mods include "Automatic Train Painter" for getting your trains colored to their cargo without all the tedious mucking around in the color picker or looking it up. "Resource Map Label Marker" tags resource patches on the map with their sizes, something that you can do by hand but it's just more convenient to let the mod do it.

    • @Steve_1401
      @Steve_1401 3 года назад +3

      That sounds brilliant.

    • @canebro1
      @canebro1 3 года назад +4

      Agree. Along with painting your train, there is the associated Automatic Station Painter, for the stations, and Fluid Wagon Color Mask, to also paint the fluid wagons.
      I'm more a fan of YARM for resources, as it will track the size and how long until it is depleted.

  • @Hedning1390
    @Hedning1390 3 года назад +4

    Well, cudos for keeping them actually qol and not cheating. I didn't expect that because I hear a lot of people slap the qol label on things that are just cheats. Like some would say that /c game.player.force.character_build_distance_bonus = 40 is qol because it "just makes building easier without changing the cost".

    • @thefactorymustgrowlarger3947
      @thefactorymustgrowlarger3947 3 года назад

      depends on your goal, for speedrunning, sure thats a cheat, for "hey look at my beautifully perfectly balanced base that I built from scratch" then I don't see long reach a cheat but a QoL.

    • @Hedning1390
      @Hedning1390 3 года назад

      @@thefactorymustgrowlarger3947 No, longer or infinite reach is just less cheaty than straight up creative mode. Building is part of the game same as resource gathering. It's the same with those cheat PA equimpent he's using in his "reverse megabase" series. Those roboports are just as cheaty as his infinite train wagons, they even have the same purple color to indicate that they are all cheat items.
      The difference you are talking about is the difference between illegal cheats and legal cheats. In speedrunning cheats are illegal. In single player, non competitive settings cheats are ok.

    • @TitoRigatoni
      @TitoRigatoni 3 года назад

      squeak thru is just as cheaty as extended reach though. It makes the game easier to play, in way that's cheaty.

    • @Hedning1390
      @Hedning1390 3 года назад

      @@TitoRigatoni Maybe a little bit cheaty, but not nearly as much as extended reach (depending on how much you extend it of course). I think this mod has pretty low impact in that it doesn't help you if you are already used to avoiding running into pipes or if you are sitting in a spidertron. And his example here with the sulfur build is very strange since it's not really built for beacons nor a pre-beacon build. It's as if it's intentionally built as pipe hell and is not representative of how easy it is to avoid running into pipes.
      I think this is a mod that if you start using it you have to continue using it, but if you are not using it you don't really feel that it would make the game easier because you instinctively run around pipes instead of into them. I'm certainly not missing it when I'm playing without it.

  • @jonathanrichards593

    Thank you for that overview - I too cannot live without vehicle snap or something like it. I'm going to pitch in with my favourite mods that do alter the gameplay in some ways, but I think are so useful , and seem to fit so well with the whole Nauvis backstory, that I hardly ever play without them:
    *Beautiful Bridge Railway - gives you three tiers of rail that can be built across water. They only carry trains, you can't walk or drive across them. It seems inconceivable that the Engineer can build rockets but bridges are out of reach!
    *Cargo ships - gives seagoing vessels that either run on defined routes (a little like the trains that they inherit from) or can navigate anywhere (like a sea-going car). You can bring resources from far countries and islands.
    *ZRecycling - adds reverse recipes for almost everything, at 0.5 efficiency, so you can e.g. put wooden powerpoles into a recycler and get half the wood and copper back, or recycle your burner mining drills.
    *Warehousing - bigger (up to ma-hoo-sive) storage containers, with logistic types as well when you've reached the higher research levels.

    Isn't "max rate calculator" a must have for you ? And also, would it be possible to do a "net rate calculator" based on the most constrained part ? Thanks for all the beautifull content you do !

    • @tejing2001
      @tejing2001 3 года назад +1

      I think max rate calculator should have a "force to zero" button on any item/fluid that is both an input and an output of the selected machines, but not enable it by default. That way you have enough control to deal with scenarios where, say, one of your outputs from the build also partially loops back to be an input (like if that last stage of what you're measuring is a kovarex process, for example, or almost anything you do in space exploration).

    • @mxdanger
      @mxdanger 3 года назад +2

      Why use Max Rate Calculator when you can use the fairly new and superior version? Rate Calculator looks like it's part of Factorio and it fits into the UI perfectly. mods.factorio.com/mod/RateCalculator

    • @tejing2001
      @tejing2001 3 года назад +1

      @@toddkes5890 The whole point of the "force to zero" idea is that it would recompute assuming that machines slow down as necessary to force the net production of that item to be zero. Other values all through the calculation would change to accommodate the fact that some of the machines would not run at full speed.

    2 of mine are 'Inbuilt Lighting' (Adds a little lamp to the top of each powerpole), and 'Bottleneck' that adds a light to each building to show its status (wiating for resources, working properly, full)

    • @SMFB64
      @SMFB64 3 года назад

      I am always using Bottleneck, but I don't really know if there is an impact on UPS for megaBases. Although I never did build a base that big, so that is not an issue for me.

    • @jonathanrichards593
      @jonathanrichards593 3 года назад

      @@SMFB64 Bottleneck does have a UPS impact at very large scales, and 1.0 introduced status lamps and reporting for vanilla assemblers. Particularly in the dark (!) it's easy to survey a factory or a mining outpost and see where there are issues.

    I don't understand how you can say squeekthrough doesn't change gameplay; it totally does. It changes the way you design factories, it literally changes the way you play the game. I mean it's not as cheaty as like an ammo autoloader, but it's still pretty cheaty.

    • @achtsekundenfurz7876
      @achtsekundenfurz7876 3 года назад

      Yes it totally changes gameplay. If you're attacked by biters near a pipeline, you can phase through, a huge tactical advantage (although the situation is rather uncommon). If you don't exploit it deliberately, it's not even "pretty cheaty" in that case, but it's far from cosmetic / UI only.
      The cheatiest one is "Patronage" (featured right after squeezethrough); I heard it can give you actual money if you exploit it fully.
