@@FoodandFootprints Ya And Your Guys Had To Take Care Too☺ Now The Virus Cases In Selangor/KL Is Almost Increase EveryDay😓
ahhh Nyonya food❤️❤️❤️😋
Love it! Made us think back to when we first met up and cooked some Nyonya food together
I keep on smiling to myself when cute Jumi waiting rather impatiently for Greg to explain on each kuih, as Greg always have the first bite and describing them, and as soon as he almost finish describing, she grab it away immediately and pop into her mouth. 🤣🤣🤣
😂😂😂 that is a very common occurrence! So funny to watch on camera
😂 Jumi u are so cute...
Does Greg speaks Malay? He’s mentioning all those Malay words with such perfection and without hesitation.
Thank you! I don’t, but have picked up some words and phrases during our stay. I really try to learn the correct pronunciations as much as possible from listening to locals say words and asking when not sure.
Yes..from a person who loves Greek food and pizzas from NYC..to hear him pronounce the name of local dessert, cakes and dishes in perfect Malay simply amazing
Greg is adopted malay already hehe
Yay cendol! What a great way to end the homey meal!
It was! That gula melaka was so nice and rich
That pineapple gravy looks fantastic! And by Greg's face, we know it really is! 👍
It was incredible! My kind of dish for sure
I was laughing watching jumi waiting for greg to finish explaining the kuehs.. she was eager to have a taste of the kuehs.. hahaha
Hahaha always!
So cool that you got to see the process at Baba Charlie! All those colors...steams...it's so nice!
It was such a treat! Baba Charlie is the man and we were so lucky to be able to check out the process
Huge props to Greg and Jumi for their engaging, on-point commentaries. This episode does great justice to peranakan food in Melaka! 😋👍👏👏👏
Thank you very much, Dorothy! Means a lot to hear and we appreciate it
Thanks guys for bringing us to Nya-Bongsu together to feast with you guys! 😍😍😍 Also thanks Kelvin for the recommendation!!
Thank you guys for coming to Melaka and bringing us to KL! Such a fun day. Loved the recommendation from Kelvin - such a cool spot
I am really amazed by Greg’s pronunciation of our local foods. Spot-on every single one of them. He sounded like someone who has been living in Malaysia for many years.
Thank you very much, Calvin! Been trying to pick up on the pronunciations by listening to locals
Share nice new friend 🌿
Thank you!
Love how homey the food is in Unicorn Cafe, definitely didn't expect it coming from a nice cozy cafe! Glad you guys brought us there for cendol there too! 😍
We loved the homey food at Unicorn Cafe! And really wanted that cendol one last time - glad we got to have it together when you came!
They actually moved from "Ole Sayang" @ Novotel area to the current place when they just started, found by chance when we went jogging! 😅 Our effort ruined after that!🤦🏻♀️🙈
@@joycetan4684 Ahh good to know! Very nice little shop
@@FoodandFootprints True..😁
Wow the way you could cut that chicken with your spoon -- you definitely know it's tender!!
Sooo tender and delicious!
We didn't visit Melaka because...we extended our days in east coast... 😎🏝️
But it's definitely on the list and will be checked next time!
Can’t blame you guys! The east coast is beautiful and the island and beach vibes there make it hard to leave.
That’s the beauty of Malaysia, always much more to come back to visit. Highly recommend Melaka!
Every spoon Greg eats light up his face.love to see his expression .I love peranakan foods too.it truely rich in flavours.
Those flavors really are special! We waited until coming to Melaka to really dive into Peranakan food and glad we did
13:06 Love that dissolve transition. I originally thought it was a wipe with lines and colors not knowing it was a spinning floor. Very creative.
Thank you so much!
10:13 Greg: "oh, thanks, we are so full!"
😂😂😂 that was such a feast! Belly was bulging for sure

As soon as the borders open up, can't wait to visit Malaysia! Melaka seems to have such amazing food options!
Melaka blew us away with the food! Part of the reason why we stayed for 5 weeks haha. You guys will love Malaysia
Love that shot with the spinning table!
Thanks, guys! The beauty of lazy Susans
Omg been so excited for your Melaka peranakan episode!!!
Thank you, guys! We’ve been so excited to share it 😁
love Jumi's hairstyle and fresh look during intro scene.. enjoyed watching so much esp all the beautiful scenes, interior and exterior deco, all those lovely settlngs and yummy food ..love how Greg and Jumi so accurately describe and point out the unique point about particular kuihs, dishes and dessert..love how Greg appreciated pongteh..and best how Greg and Jumi emphasize the kuihs that is just perfect in salty santan and sweet taste which is rich in real natural ingredients and not overly sweet..I have to watch this vlog over and over again to go thru every aspect of it...
I mentioned to a friend , if it's about promoting food and getting the food appreciated to its finest detail and for the food to get justice in review best to invite Greg and Jumi..and for the food to be appreciated and wipe the platter clean and thankful for and truly enjoyed, invite A Train Travels..just because I see A Train Travels adaptable to all the food he tried and expanding his tastebud
Thank you so much, SK! Always enjoy reading your thoughtful and sweet comments. Appreciate your support 🙏
We just ate kuih talam with durian on our Malaysian friend place on Xmas day, soo good 😋
Yum!! Oh man with durian that must have been so good
Haha Greg's face after eating the pineapple curry!!!! Iconic!!!
😂😂 It was that good!
Oh my gosh kuih heaven😍🤩🥰 yup i normally eat kuih lapis by peel them one by one 😆 the best way to enjoy it for sure!
Definitely was kuih heaven there! Peeling it is the best way for sure
Amazing that everything is handmade, and definitely seeing them make everything shows how much love is put into their food!
Definitely made it even more special to watch it being made. Lots of love 👍
Trevor James from the channel The Food Ranger was there in Melaka recently, it would have been awesome for you guys to meet him. The good looks delicious there 😍
He was! Believe he filmed there before we were in Melaka though. He’s been in Malaysia the whole time we have. Maybe one day we will!
The food is amazing in Melaka! We loved our time there
Its mind blowing how much variety of food is in Malaysia especially throughout the regions. I also like the restaurants that gives you a feel like if your eating home.
You’re right. We’ve been loving visiting the different states and trying the specialties in each. We definitely got that feel of eating at home at a bunch of these Nyonya spots
Love nyonya food!!
Same here! Such wonderful flavors
Nonya laksa in Baba Charlie is so generous, loaded with those prawn, fish balls gosh! Im surprise u guys sharing it loll
It was! Haha I’m more of a laksa lover than Jumi
Wow those cakes are so wonderful and super colorful!! These babies are so nice! The way its made! Layers and layers of color its yum!!
They are! We always liked kuih, but seeing them made fresh made us appreciate it even more! Colorful and delicious
Aw I love how you guys compared eating at Unicorn Cafe to eating at home!! It definitely looks so warm and comforting!
It was! And the family who owns and runs it is so nice. Felt like eating at their home
Love the BTS on how the kuihs were made, amazing B-Rolls guys! 😍😍😍 hahaha!! Yes I like to eat kuih lapis layer by layer, I die inside when I see someone (Puri) eat the whole thing 🤣
Thank you so much, guys! 😁😁
It was really a treat to go BTS and see the kuih making process. Made eating them afterwards that much more special. Hahaha now we can understand why - it is much better to eat layer by layer
Lol I do that most of the time...😂
Cencaluk Melaka is the best usually add lime, cili, onion and garlic also sugar it’s good as a sauce to dip grilled fish yummm
We will need to try it that way. Sounds good!
@@FoodandFootprints it is you need to balance the flavour add water if it’s too much
Peranakan food is uniquely Malaysian fusion. Some of the best food ever.
Totally agree! It is an incredible cuisine
We love economy rice! Nice to know there is nyonya food restaurant with economy rice style in Melaka 👍
Yes! Such a great idea
Rice is def essential to malaysian dishes..a must need to soak up all those delicious flavors!! The gravy looks so good!
So true! Gotta mix all that gravy with the rice
another nice video 👍🏼
Thank you so much!
So the food serve like in wedding in asia where you just grab what you want in a plate 🙌🏻
Yes! Love that style
Oooo yeah starting it all off with the stingray curry 🍛 you know this video gonna be 🔥 Nya looks awesome would love to go there when we're back. The vibe and the spread looks amazing just like the family would make. Hey look at that spotted some familiar faces 😂 there is no way you can do a nyonya food episode without some kueh. Y'all picked an awesome spot kueh lapis is one of yen's favorites. She eats it piece by piece 😊 the blue one with the sago intrigues me though 😯 awesome vid so much good food 👌
That stingray kuah lada was really nice! Loved the whole meal at Unicorn.
Nya was such a great family style spot too. Haha that was when Puri and Sue came down to Melaka to eat and bring us back to KL. Also brought them to the first and last spots in the video 😁
Kuih is a must! And we were so lucky to be able to go behind the scenes at Baba Charlie to watch the kuih made. The sago one was delicious!
Thank you so much, guys! Glad you enjoyed it. Means a lot with you having a close connection to Melaka
Oh yeah the noodles look delish! Jumi is eating away while you explain lol! 😄
😂😂😂 always!
So awesome you guys got to see how they made it! So many layers, it's beautiful!!
So happy we got to go behind the scenes to watch it made. Gave us even more appreciation for it
Anything with coconut flavor excites me, that's an amazing wrap up for the delicious meal!
There are so many great coconut flavor dishes here! You will be in heaven haha
Good evening Greg &;Jumi! You are back to my hometown Malacca!
Good evening, Kellie! This is our grand finale episode from our stay in Melaka
@@FoodandFootprints I see. So where is your next destination? Started feeling that you all ( including Jetlag Warriors & Ken Abroad ) gonna leave Malaysia soon. ☹️......very sad😞
We aren’t in a rush to leave Malaysia anytime soon. All depends on if Malaysia will continue to let us stay and what other countries open up. We love it here!
Love the song you are using at the beginning of the video. Sorry guys we are late on catching up with your video
Thanks, guys!! No worries at all 😁
Baba Charlie! I like that name!! Wow that laksa is max loaded!!! That nice prawns and fish balls! Its beautiful!!!
Yes! Baba Charlie is a great guy - he’s a legend in Melaka. We nicknamed him the King of Kuih! That laksa was soo good

Thank you!
Wow you guys tried a dish using buah keluak and cincalok.
Those are native ingredients and very unique.
We love eating beef soup cooked with keluak called "rawon" (Indonesian dish), so good!
Ohh rawon sounds familiar. We may have eaten it at Indo Java before. Definitely want to try it in Indonesia someday
Great to see you guys in Malacca. Enjoying the food.
Thank you! We loved Melaka and all the great food there
oooh we'd be automatically drawn in by the smell of lime leaves! Looked delicious too!
Lime leaf is one of the best flavors out there!
Yummy
What a nice feast with Puri&Sue in the dinning room. Feels definitely homey!
It was! We were so happy they came down to Melaka for the day and eat together
10:14 Looking @ Greg pampering his tummy, 😂😂 he Nailed it, alright! 🤤 Burppp..
@@joycetan4684 Haha that was the same day we went to Unicorn Cafe + Baba Charlie before we headed back to KL!
@@FoodandFootprints Wooohoooo pig-out! I know that feeling, I or rather We, normally do that too before hitting back to KL!😂🤫🤫
😂😂😂 for good reason
Thinking right now about how to teach this kid to dive into cooking like this. Sometimes, it's just flying and going to a new place where you're going to have to expand your palette just to eat, period. Like the high dive without a net. You just have to trust the experience.
And you have. You're showing that expansion of the palette can be such amazing exploration.
Bonus: Greg said "fluffy." Twice.
That is the way to go. Fret not, I (Greg) was quite a picky kid growing up and didn’t expand my horizons until my teen years. Took until my early 20’s to really become more open-minded to different foods.
Haha the fluffy counter!
We can tell you guys really like Melaka. The food does look very homemade and comforting. Peppercorn gravy sounds good. Ooohhh, give us the pork and shrooms stew.
Oh yes we definitely do! Exactly why we stayed for 5 weeks and filmed 4 videos here haha. The pongteh was delicious - bet you guys would love it!
D nyonya laksa n d nyonya kueh r d top on my list when in Melaka.
For good reason. Always nice to eat the specialties wherever you go
Greg you are so good on describing all the nyonya kuih!
Homemade kueh is always good!!
That durian pancake is the winner for me too haha.
Thank you! Loved tasting all the different Nyonya kuih. We ate a bunch more too, but couldn’t fit it into the video haha. Loved that durian pancake
Hey Greg and Jumi!! Interesting to hear about Peranakan culture and that it stems from the Chinese that came to Malaysia. The food at Unicorn Cafe looks so flavorful.. love that it's family owned.
We loved Unicorn Cafe! We chatted with the family a bunch too
I'm ready for some Melaka food!!! So nice unique Chinese malay food!!
Oh yes! This is the grand finale of food in Melaka from us, so we had to finish off with Nyonya food 😁
Always Fantastic videos!!
Appreciate it, Jason. Thank you!

Wow buah keluwak, seriously that's really classic nonya food. So nick is definitely never try it, i tried many times from mom's cooking but never knew it's hard to prepare 😆
Ohhh awesome your mom makes it! Nick needs to try it sometime haha
Unicorn cafe is a cute name and thought it's for modern food type of cafe but surprise it's for Peranakan food.
Glad to see that the food is delicious and they also serve pork dish which is not very common as you said. Homecook meal is a winner!
oh yesss cendol for dessert 😍
Haha yeah it seems that way but we loved how homey the food was. And the family who owns it is so friendly. The cendol was awesome! We went again just for it on our last day when Puri and Sue came down 😁

Ohh all these cakes are different.. one looks fuzzy.. sweet and savory.. made fresh from batter! One even has durian in it mmm..
Yes! And there were a bunch more where those came from. Just couldn’t fit them all in this video. Even some savory too!
Kafe Lin dishes look amazing! Economy rice is our daily staple food, definitely will check out this place! Look how loaded your plates are!! Salivating here!! 🤤
Such a genius idea to do economy rice with Nyonya dishes! We were so hungry for that meal and loaded up
So great you guys have made good friends over there. That laksa looks ridiculously good. We're on a detox diet right now and suffering watching this. 😂
Making friends here in Malaysia has made our time much more special and makes it feel like home. Nooooo 😭😭
That is a great description of turu turu, I hope I am spelling it right.
Wow, pineapple, coconut milk and fish soup, this is a fantastic mix. And yes every time you describe a meal from Malaysia I try to understand that mix of flavors and I always imagine how all the ingredients macerate together
I remember when you guys show this dessert in your NYC videos ☺
Close - turo turo (means point point). That lemak nenas was absolutely amazing! Wouldn’t mind eating just a whole portion of it with rice.
It feels like at home? 😍😍😍 that is our favorite feeling when eating

Unicorn Cafe has it going on! I agree, it feels very homey when you have all those plates
It does! Think you would’ve really dug this spot. We also talked to some of the family during our meal - really nice people
Lime leave flavour 😋, yes - when a dish feel
Comforting , that is the kind of dish that reminds you of your moms cooking
That’s what we loved about these dishes 😁
Everything looks yummy...
It was! Loved the Nyonya food here
Hey..it's me again..😂 Good choice of makan places. Other nyonya food outlets you can try out is Donald & Lily if you haven't already been there and Nyonya Laksa Empire, obviously for their laksa. As for nyonya kuehs there's quite a bit you can learn about them. Colours play quite a bit of role. Certain colours are reserved for happy occasions and a small selection of kuehs are not served during joyus celebrations. There's quite a bit to learn about the Peranakans and their food. 😅
Thank you! We tried Donald and Lily and really enjoyed the rendang with blue rice - very tasty! Didn’t try Nyonya Laksa Empire - actually never heard of it until you mentioned it now. The laksa at 486 Baba Low was quite good too.
Oh wow! Will need to read up on the significance of the colors and occasions for the different kuih. We love Peranakan food 👍
That layered desert is pretty cool. Didn’t know you could peel it also. Cool to see how they lade it also. Hope you guys have a Happy Year guys.
