just looking at Greg’s expression when he bites into the satay. Makes one feel like going to Muar and having the satay there. Yumps
That smoky flavor is just amazing!
Yes finally my hometown... yes we can eat satay 24 hours hehe
Haha we can see why - so good with that smoky flavor. If we weren’t eating more, we could’ve eaten like 50+ satay
Mee bandung since d 1930s, wow, that's a long history of goodness. Almost 3 decades before Malaysian independence. 90 years of deliciousness.
We love places that have a long history to them. And still going strong for good reason too
18.55 used to drink coffee from the saucer which made it cold faster.
Thanks for stopping in Muar. Tourists skip this town for Melaka 👍👍😎
It was our pleasure - we were really excited to visit and it didn’t disappoint. It deserves to be a tourist destination on its own
My hometown...😍😍😍. Miss Muar a lot, its been a year since my last balik kampung. Really glad both of u have enjoyed ur time & tried great food there.
Your hometown is awesome!! We loved it there. Thank you so much! Definitely a place we would return to and try more food
Wooo Mee Bandung looks amaziiiiinnngggg!! Since 1930s??? wow! Love how they put up those pictures of VIP visiting their place. Thanks for the list of things to eat here in Muar, taking note of all your recommended places to eat, since we've never been to Muar before!!
Hope to see videos from Muar from you guys someday! We really think you guys will love it here. Such a nice town with so much delicious food! The Mee Bandung was a great way to end our stay in Muar - so tasty
Ooo great to see you guys highlighting an underrated town! It looks like it has a lot of character, would love to visit someday!
Yes! A benefit to staying in Malaysia for so long is getting to visit smaller towns like this one. Definitely has lots of character! Highly recommend
"Nothing is elephant in here", pointing the coffee, it's funny and cute at the same time 😂
I was about to comment the same 😆
😂😂😂
OMG.. Otak-otak from Muar is so popular.. I recall eating like 30 of them many years back during 1 dinner session... lol
Haha we believe it! We could each polish off 30 of them too - so tasty
Saya budak Muor... Like 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Thank you! 👍
@@FoodandFootprints welcome. U find breakfast satay and mee bandung only in muar ... and coffee 434 original too in muar 😊😊😊
Oh, we love that woodfire smell! One of the perks of being in "rural" areas. You hardly get that in big cities!
Yesss that wood fire smell is always so nice and comforting.
This is hidden gems of Malaysia ❤
Muar definitely deserves more attention!
Forgot how much you two loved coffee!
Yup! We are surrounded by coffee here in Malaysia
The ULTIMATE MUAR MALAYSIAN culinary tour is too much food
really like
Thank you for watching!
Sup kambing with the gearbox, wowww look at the colour and the thickness of the soup.
Must be a really satisfying soup for you guys, kambing lovers 😄
Sooo nice and rich! It was one of the most satisfying soups we’ve had in Malaysia for sure
Omg that soup!!! Hahah I love how they give a straw to sip the marrow! The broth looks soooo packed with flavor & hearty!
It is packed with flavor for sure! Loved this soup
Home made kaya, that's even more special.
It is! Wonderful to see the big batch of home made kaya and hear about the process. Would love to see them make it one day
@@FoodandFootprints Maybe in Malacca, u guys can learn from d nyonya how to make kaya. Simple ingredients, but need lots of patience stirring d mixture.
@@Yasin_Affandi you can make your own kaya in a bread maker. I make my kaya with the bread maker and it was just as yummy 😉
@@kellie88 Thanks. Maybe I'll try it one day, but need a bread maker first, hehehe.
@@Yasin_Affandi if you buy a bread maker buy one with a 'jam' icon.
Been waiting for this video.... love it... that satay.. yummy.. that elephant coffee really nice.. I love it.. thanks for bring it for me..
Our pleasure! That coffee is so good and we are really happy that you enjoy it 😁
Like what Greg mentioned about 434 coffee, this shop has a HUGE coffee factory not very far from their retail shop but because of Covid, it had to be shut down! ☕
wow. thanks for featuring my hometown muar. i think this is the first time i ever see a foreign youtuber exploring this small town. and you guys really did your research too. its nice to have someone with such a chill mannerism who did a great research and shoot this with such artistic style. and especially the kopitiam - i remember my dad use to take me there, he will pour the coffee on the small plate so it cool down faster and i can enjoy it. sometimes we use the plate to eat half boiled egg too. that kaya and butter toast bread also looks heavenly. homemade kaya is the best. you cannot get more local than that. thanks for the nostalgia trip haha.
Thank you very much for the kind words! So glad you enjoyed our video on your hometown. We really liked Muar - such a nice town with lots of great food. We would love to go back to see and eat more. That kopitiam was really special - the old world feel was unlike any other we’ve been to in Malaysia. Great how it brought back memories for you
My late mother was a Muarian.
Whever we were in Muar. We used to go to KIM LENG to tapow Chicken Pie n Cream Puff..
N
Right opposte of KIM LENG we used to eat Satay n Mee Bandung.
Those were the days.
Thank you for sharing!
Sipping bone marrow with straw! Only in Asia 😆 that broth is crazy, looks so amazing
Haha love how they give you a straw for the bone marrow - so thoughtful. The broth was sooooo good
The kaya toast at See Hoi is really old school and love they use charcoal to toast it. That’s good that you managed to learn making the coffee too 👍🏻
We loved this kopitiam! Unlike anywhere else we’ve been. So much charm and character
Great channel loved the content
Thank you very much!
The spice that lingers is dangerous! We'd absolutely love to try Mee Bandung, it is really great to see they haven't lost any quality over the years even though they hosted so many famous people, very nice!
It is a must try in Muar! Love that it has been going strong for so many years
The streets and building of Muar looks so calm and clean.
Wow satay for breakfast?
Muar is such a nice town! Yesss satay for breakfast 🙌
Going to a clean city is always great - and it is great that it is is recognized for that. Love the teasers at the begning of the video. Both of your excitement is always top notch!!!!
Thank you! Always like to have an intro to get people excited for what is to come. Muar is such a nice town
Mee bandung Muar.... really miss this town. Especially during this pandemic. Good job Greg and Jumi. Keep it coming.
Thank you very much! We loved Muar
all the recommendation look so good, I having simple dinner at home while watching ..really good research and food guide for viewers..of course the kopi o kosong old school taste really good since Greg make it himself..great filming and editing from Jumi, I guess.. street art murals and quaint old buildings and town..really enjoyed watching.
wish it was longer
Thank you so much! Really glad you enjoyed this one. That is saying a lot if you wish it was longer - it was one of our longest videos! 😂😂
This is pure joy to watch my friend! This is what I am striving for in my videos!
Thank you!
Fantastic video! The food looks wonderful there guys, Thank you for explaining a bit about the things you eat as I have not heard of many of those.
Thank you very much, Angie! We love highlighting and describing the different foods that we try
Welcome to my hometown Muar !
Thank you for sharing this beautiful place to others and hope that you can come again 😍
Thank you so much! We loved your beautiful hometown and would definitely come back 👍
Soup kambing looks amazing.. always fun to see the straw and how you can drink from the bone!
That soup was epic! Haha it is such a great idea to include the straw
Another great food tour guys. Really enjoying your travels around Malaysia.
Thank you so much, guys! We are loving being able to slowly travel Malaysia and visit smaller towns like these too
Those toast with a nice warm coffee is all I need this morning
So cool to see how they make the coffee and that you guys got to record it.
Look at that cream, that coffee has to be so rich in flavor
Such a special experience! After reading about this place, we knew it was a must-visit
It's so cool seeing them make that toast like that! Combined with the kaya jam and paired with the coffee, looks like a must-try!
Loved this place! Such a special family-run business doing it the old school way
Thanks for the video.... made me missed going there for a food trip.
Thanks for watching! Such a great place for a food trip
very cool travel vlog, thanks for taking us to places, I enjoyed watching your video, the videography is amazing it really presents the place nicely!
Thank you!
YUMMM that satay looks amazing! "we're all about that charcoal life" HAHA I love that 😂
Yesss grilled meat over charcoal is the best way, especially satay!
Hey Greg and Jumi!! It's so cool you're taking us along to Muar! What a beautiful little town and it's so fascinating seeing the Colonial architecture. That's cool that this coffee shop has been open for so long. Covid is screwing with businesses everywhere. But it's good you can still get products there at least!! :)
Yes! Muar is such a wonderful town. Colorful and lots of character. Yes! Still worth it for takeaway
That toast with the coconut pandan jam looked like a really tasty breakfast!! Love that last spot you went to with all the photos of the Sultan, and Prime Minister and people who frequent this place. We're just glad that chicken seems like a common option a lot of the places you visit!! Thanks for taking us with you and love you both to the mother effin' moon! Safe travels! :)
Thank you so much for watching!
Just one of the most sensuous and engrossing food tour vlogs I have ever come across. As soon as I can get a permit to fly (I'm an Australian. The permit is a real thing!), I'm there.
Thank you very much, Mark! Really appreciate that 🙏 Muar is a great destination to pair with Melaka. Both are beautiful towns with so much mouthwatering food and a short distance apart. Hope that day comes as soon as possible!
Ooh this place definitely has an old colonial feel. Also love how you guys started the video with some coffee.. 👍 elephant bean mmm..
It does! We love these colorful buildings - lots of character. Yess the coffee in Muar is legendary and always a great way to start the day
Loving your vids!
Thank you so much!
Greg is a natural back there in the Kitchen. Just love how old school type of cooking.
Haha you didn’t see me spill some of the coffee while pouring it though 😂
Greg's expression with the muar soup said it all!
It was sooo good! So rich and flavorful
That soup house... was no joke when it came to that thick soup. We love cumin, and that broth was so rich looking. Haba.. it looked like the writing for the shop was in Arabic. Satay looks so flavorful and we're glad it was marinated well!! We could eat a whole ton of these!!
The Arabic script is called Jawi here. Malay language but using the Arabic script. We loved the soup house! Some of the best soup we’ve had in Malaysia. Sooo easy to eat tons of that satay
Daaaamnnnn satay for breakfast!!! These guys know how to enjoy life, why wait for supper when you can have it in the morning!! Awwwwh that lontong looks soooo goooood!!!
Right?? It is a nice protein-packed breakfast. And the lontong was delicious with it too 😋
Yes, Johor has a strong coffee drinking culture. Muar otak otak is supposed to be the best in Johor! For sup kambing, its a close fight with Batu Pahat.
One of the reasons why we love Johor! As coffee and food lovers, it is a wonderful place.
Muar otak otak is delicious! We had some in JB but not in Kluang or BP.
Will have to try the sup kambing in BP sometime!
Just discovered your channel. Loving the content.
Thank you so much!
Maur def seems like a gem, hope you guys have more content coming up from this place! 😍😍😍
It is a gem! We wanted to make one big video on it, so no other videos planned. But definitely would be up for a return trip here soon!
@@FoodandFootprints awesome! We will be waiting 😊
You guys are my food church!!! I had to stop watching and then finish the next day. The food spoke my language and then, the coffee!!!! Fire brewed, OMG! Dark and rich; PLEASE!!
Food church! That is high praise 😁
Oh man we have been spoiled by all the nice dark rich coffee here. And thankfully we have a nice big stash of that Elephant bean coffee to drink on the go
Wow!Both of you seriously know where to explore great & fantastic food, should bring Ken to try.....Bon apetite 🤤
Thank you very much! 😁
That cumin is making you excited Greg. It;s okay. I am liking it also! Great editing on this episode !
Cumin always makes me excited! 😂😂
Thank you so much, Matt! Appreciate it 🙏
Oh wow the soup looks amazing!!
It was! So flavor packed
Muars my hometown - thanks for sharing this video. Brings back so many great memories! My grandma ran an old school coffee shop like See Hoi Kopitiam but my grandmas shop was demolished to make way for modernization and newer shoplots which is a such a shame. Next time you order a charcoal/wood toast with kaya, ask for refrigerated butter slices (pronounced "peng chu gu you" in hokkein/teochiew which is commonly spoken there) to go with the kaya, dip it in the kopi-o-kosong before you take a bite and that's heaven right there.
Thank you for watching and sharing your story about your grandma running an old school coffee shop in Muar. Shame that it got demolished. We love these old school spots and hope that they last for a long time. Part of why we highlight them.
Not sure if the butter slices were refrigerated, but we do love dipping the toast into the kopi-o kosong. So good!
That one place where you got that dark coffee and toast, it does give off that homely vibe! 👍
Really one of our favorite places we’ve been in Malaysia. So much character
its really nice to see that coffee shop still use woodfire...and the soup looks amazing...
We loved it! The coffee and kaya toast were great and we could’ve just relaxed there for hours if we had the time. The soup definitely was amazing!
Haha fiuhh good to hear nothing elephant in that coffee lol =p found that coffee in South East Asia is quite thicker and stronger, love it!
This coffee is unlike any other we’ve had here in Malaysia
Wow Jumi's coffee is so dark!!! Darkest coffee ever LOL! Those cups definitely look like they'll wake you right up with just a few sips 😂
Haha this coffee woke us up quickly!
Omaigad..muar..my place..hehe...in muar, we eat satay for breakfast and for midnight snack..hhaahhaha..
Haha we love that! Our first ever breakfast satay
@@FoodandFootprints for mee bandung..i recommend you to try mee bandung central..in muar there are different taste of mee bandung..hahaha..but i personally love mee bandung from mee bandung central..more spicy and their broth more thick..
Agreed with Jumi, Muar or Muo (how the locals pronounced it) is so underrated. Muar's kopitiam is as good as you can get in Ipoh & Penang. Muar foods ie. satay, mee rebus, mee bandung Muar & asam pedas Muar are very delicious too. Thank you for covering Muar's food!
So true - the coffee in Muar is wonderful and lots of variety of food. Still so much left to try and we may have to return for round 2. Really enjoyed our time there. Our pleasure - thank you for watching!
yes more Otak-otak! we will try it as many as we could and yeah agree with Jumi, could eat it everyday!
Yessss we can’t get enough when we get started eating them. Everyday
Seeing how they prepare that otak otak is definitely interesting!
Yeah! He had a real rhythm to flipping them over on the line
Noodles 🤤🤤🤤 with beef and prawns
Every time you say spicy and sweet, it gives us hope that we can eat it without making a scene hahaha
Haha the spice in this may hit you guys pretty hard. Just a heads up 😂
@@FoodandFootprints funny faces coming up lol
Muar sounds so good, loving Jumi's voiceover
Thank you so much, guys!
Wow those are tons of years regardless.
It looks so welcoming and local.
And that wood fire oh my! 😍😍😍
Exactly what it is - welcoming and local. We loved it!
Thank you for the videos. It is my hometown.
Thank you for watching! We loved your hometown
That intro song though! Feelin it!
Thanks, guys!
Satay for breakfast is big yes for us too! haha did I hear tripes?? love it!
You did! And the tripe was the winner of the bunch. Could’ve eaten 50 of them 😂
Ya..Im a coffee lover too! Can't live without☕
Yesss #teamcoffeelovers
D mutton soup must have tasted really delicious, thick n spicy broth n u were loving it Greg. Terrific.
Absolutely delicious soup! So thick and rich. Could have eaten a few bowls of it
@@FoodandFootprints That particular soup is more delicious during cold weather. D more bones cooked in d broth, d more delicious d soup is, like sup tulang or sup ekor.
What a classic place Muar is, everything is so old and classic! Wooo Greg in action making the coffee!! Classic toast and coffee, so homey - indeed, well said!! I think I know what to eat for breakfast now hehe!! (of course no satay sold at this hour for breakfast here lol)
You guys will love Muar! Such a gem of a town. Haha that was a surprise but it was fun to make a cup of coffee. You guys would love this place too - so comforting and classic
Awwwh muar otak otak!! Why they have frozen otak otak is because people buy back as souvenir when they visit Muar (or Johor), and we fry it at home to go along with our meal (usually a bigger square box instead of individual sticks), or as snack. Love these otak otak!
Ahh that makes sense! Food is the best kind of souvenir 😁
Wow, grilled tripe...I never ever saw grilled tripe on any menu before, so interesting. I loved the video and footage of the quaint town of Muar. I just tried Satay beef for the first time, I'm back to eating meat again for the first time in 15 years. Pizza kept me alive for all those years! lol
Yeah! Loved that tripe satay - really good. Muar is a wonderful town. Haha pizza is a great way to keep you going if you’re not eating meat
Wow muar soup w a bone marrow! Rich and warm and hearty! Love that color of that soup love the thickness
Oh yeah! That bone marrow makes it extra rich and delicious. Seriously some of the best broth we’ve had here
HECK YES to that cozy coffee shop at 17:25. The wood fire stove is magical. You can tell that place is very special.
the star newspaper just published an article about this coffeeshop.

pls eat a lot while u at Muar
u will never regret
♥ from Me Muarian
Thank you so much! We loved our time in Muar and may go back again to see and eat more 😁
These dish cakes is something we would love to try. Look like mini pasteles, so cute.
They do look like mini pasteles! But with minced fish
I like the way you guys talk about the kambing sticking to the local Malay language..
I am a Muarian..
But, not living there..
Love is still there in Muar..
Would always go back for the satay for breakfast and air pear...
We love Muar! Would definitely go back
Thanks for this wonderful video in Muar n d delicious food in d city.
It was our pleasure! We had a wonderful time in Muar
@@FoodandFootprints I'm glad that u guys have had a wonderful time in Muar. Wonder what's Malacca like for u guys?
@@Yasin_Affandi Thank you! Now that CMCO is ending, things hopefully will be a bit better for the local businesses. Thankfully most places we have wanted to try have been open
@@FoodandFootprints KL, Penang n Johor, in that order, d best cities for food explorers. Too bad during lockdown, u guys haven't got d chance yet to explore d best of KL n d Klang Valley.
Hopefully u guys can have a productive food explorations n experiences during this lockdown period. Good thing is, less crowded eating places.
Wow the kaya looks so good and yeah heard that need hours for making kaya, lots of brown sugar and pandan, yumm!
Yesss love that they make it in-house. Labor of love 🙌
Love the straw to get the marrow out of there! Loved Greg's face when he was having the soup, its like the flavor and boldness was jumping off the screen. Now I'm craving a spicy style Turkish soup from Gaziantep to get the similar feeling ;)
Same here! It is genius. That flavor was off the charts, guys! Exactly the kind of taste I love. Ohh keep hearing about Gaziantep and the great food there!
Wow that homemade kaya looks good...must go there someday!
You definitely should! Really special place
Muar looks like a really cool spot that we never heard about before. Really nice open green spaces and can't go wrong being by the water.
It is a really nice town, guys! Highly recommend
Yeahh...after you have had your heavy breakfast, you should take a morning walk/stroll along the beautiful Muar riverside to burn down all the accumulated calories. .
That was a good otak otak, u can eat it every day, that's nice Jumi. N Greg can eat it all day long, very nice. U guys really loved this one.
We really did! Even bought a bunch to take back to JB with us. Very easy to eat a lot of these
@@FoodandFootprints Glad u guys enjoyed Every single bit of food & beverage in Muar! 5️⃣🌟
@@joycetan4684 Thank you very much, Joyce! We certainly did and would return for more
Are the otak otak halal?
Hey Greg is that the flushing part globe on your t-shirt?
Love it
It is! Thank you!
It's where I grew up! Totally agree that the food is great and cheap in Muar.
Awesome that you grew up in Muar! Such a nice town with great food
You know charcoal is the GOAT for us hahaha, love me some charcoal
Peanut sauce?
Your face of happiness is all we need to see ! Damn you make food look even more delicious
Man that charcoal smoky flavor was SO strong on these satay
Looks so delicious 😋 I want some!!!
It is!! Fire up the Uber Eats 😂
I love the unique way of Jumi sipping Soup Gearbox...👍
Thank you! Love how they give you a straw for it
@@FoodandFootprints you're welcome
It look beautiful, clean, coffee very interesting 👍😍
All of the above yes! 👍👍
That's cool to know that Johor is a coffee capital of the area. We agree.. it's so cool watching them grill at Otak Otak and cool they have many varieties in Malaysa. That fish looks so delicious and we bet the grass they cook it in adds such a beautiful flavor!
Otak otak is wonderful! And the attap leaves do give it a nice flavor
Muar soup house is legend, sup kambing taste like a real sup kambing haha, sometime weekend kl bikers come just to get the sup
Can see why KL bikers make the trip down. It is sooo good!
That's a traditional way of double boil the rich aromatic kaya puree. Surprise that this tedious method of continuous stirring is still being used. 👍🏆👏
Thank you Greg💞Jumi for taking us around.
Golden question 🌞do you see yourselves having a food court selling your favourite street foods in the future👏👏👏
We loved seeing the dedication and old school techniques at this kopitiam! Such a special place.
Thank you very much for watching! Never thought of that. Remember when the late Anthony Bourdain had that idea in NYC, but it wouldn’t be the same to have vendors leaving their original location to go elsewhere.
Terengganu, Melaka, Kelantan, and Johor's CMCO will be lifted tomorrow
Kelantan's will be implemented starting tomorrow, not lifted.
My mistake, is Melaka, Kedah, Johor and terengganu
Yes this is great news! Hoping things continue to stabilize and that CMCO won’t have to be implemented again 🤞🤞
Otak Otak love it grill open charcoal..the flavor infused from the leaf ..Great snack food!!!
This otak otak actually wasn’t grilled over charcoal, but still great flavor from the leaf infused
Wowwww finally
Haha yes!
Ooh, I don't think we've ever had satay for breakfast. Great way to start the day!
Now you made me wanna drink some coffee!
Haha right? We went on a coffee bender here in Muar. A coffee lovers town!
Whooooaaaa love the mutton soup consistency! Mmmm bone barrow, and sucking them through a straw! Thanks for recommending, we'll definitely love to check out this place!! Classic push cart, good to see that they've expanded their business!
This sup kambing was sooo good, guys! You have to try it whenever you make it to Muar. Famous for a reason 👍
