Yesss you guys have to come to Muar! It is just a short trip away from Melaka - only an hour or so. Beautiful architecture and chill vibe for sure. Definitely under the radar compared to Ipoh, Penang, KL, Melaka, etc. The soup was crazy good and agree the straw is genius. Muars my hometown - thanks for sharing this video. Brings back so many great memories! My grandma ran an old school coffee shop like See Hoi Kopitiam but my grandmas shop was demolished to make way for modernization and newer shoplots which is a such a shame. Next time you order a charcoal/wood toast with kaya, ask for refrigerated butter slices (pronounced "peng chu gu you" in hokkein/teochiew which is commonly spoken there) to go with the kaya, dip it in the kopi-o-kosong before you take a bite and that's heaven right there.
Thank you for watching and sharing your story about your grandma running an old school coffee shop in Muar. Shame that it got demolished. We love these old school spots and hope that they last for a long time. Part of why we highlight them. Not sure if the butter slices were refrigerated, but we do love dipping the toast into the kopi-o kosong. So good!

It is! Thank you!
Wow!Both of you seriously know where to explore great & fantastic food, should bring Ken to try.....Bon apetite 🤤
Thank you very much! 😁
Ooh this place definitely has an old colonial feel. Also love how you guys started the video with some coffee.. 👍 elephant bean mmm..
It does! We love these colorful buildings - lots of character. Yess the coffee in Muar is legendary and always a great way to start the day
Wow, grilled tripe...I never ever saw grilled tripe on any menu before, so interesting. I loved the video and footage of the quaint town of Muar. I just tried Satay beef for the first time, I'm back to eating meat again for the first time in 15 years. Pizza kept me alive for all those years! lol
Yeah! Loved that tripe satay - really good. Muar is a wonderful town. Haha pizza is a great way to keep you going if you’re not eating meat
Mee bandung looks like mee siam😋
Ohh haven’t tried Mee Siam yet
Greg's expression with the muar soup said it all!
It was sooo good! So rich and flavorful
Haha fiuhh good to hear nothing elephant in that coffee lol =p found that coffee in South East Asia is quite thicker and stronger, love it!
This coffee is unlike any other we’ve had here in Malaysia
Wow Malaysian food looks really great!
It definitely is! 😋
Oh I miss muar coffee, otak2 and the food is so cheap.
I used to takeaway 10boxes whenever I go there
That 434 coffee is amazing! Still drinking the sachets we bought to take with us. Haha think we could do some damage on 10 boxes of otak2. So easy to eat lots of them!
its really nice to see that coffee shop still use woodfire...and the soup looks amazing...
We loved it! The coffee and kaya toast were great and we could’ve just relaxed there for hours if we had the time. The soup definitely was amazing!
Love the straw to get the marrow out of there! Loved Greg's face when he was having the soup, its like the flavor and boldness was jumping off the screen. Now I'm craving a spicy style Turkish soup from Gaziantep to get the similar feeling ;)
Same here! It is genius. That flavor was off the charts, guys! Exactly the kind of taste I love. Ohh keep hearing about Gaziantep and the great food there!
Satay for breakfast is big yes for us too! haha did I hear tripes?? love it!
You did! And the tripe was the winner of the bunch. Could’ve eaten 50 of them 😂
Wow the kaya looks so good and yeah heard that need hours for making kaya, lots of brown sugar and pandan, yumm!
Yesss love that they make it in-house. Labor of love 🙌
Yes visiting the factory would be awesome! Coffee cities really pull me in, lieles is more of a turkish tea kinda guy lol 😆
Haha this would be the city for you then. But don’t worry, Malaysia has lots of tea for Lieles too
@@FoodandFootprints great
Thank you for the videos. It is my hometown.
Thank you for watching! We loved your hometown

Thank you! We did have mee bandung in the last stop of the video
@@FoodandFootprints how about asam pedas and ikan bakar?
@@ffylywiny7992 Will be eating a lot of it in Melaka where we are now 👍
These dish cakes is something we would love to try. Look like mini pasteles, so cute.
They do look like mini pasteles! But with minced fish
Ooh, I don't think we've ever had satay for breakfast. Great way to start the day!
Terengganu, Melaka, Kelantan, and Johor's CMCO will be lifted tomorrow
Kelantan's will be implemented starting tomorrow, not lifted.
My mistake, is Melaka, Kedah, Johor and terengganu
Yes this is great news! Hoping things continue to stabilize and that CMCO won’t have to be implemented again 🤞🤞
Missing all the food there... Reminiscing the otak otak mania back at our dorms during my schooling years there...
Oh man can imagine the otak otak mania then! If we spent more time in Muar, we would probably have a day of otak otak mania! Thanks for watching
Greg is a natural back there in the Kitchen. Just love how old school type of cooking.
Haha you didn’t see me spill some of the coffee while pouring it though 😂
Haha that spice tried to take you out the game Greg at 23:49 . The dish looks delicious
It tried! 😂😂
Muar soup house is legend, sup kambing taste like a real sup kambing haha, sometime weekend kl bikers come just to get the sup
Can see why KL bikers make the trip down. It is sooo good!
Wow those are tons of years regardless.
It looks so welcoming and local.
And that wood fire oh my! 😍😍😍
Exactly what it is - welcoming and local. We loved it!
I like the way you guys talk about the kambing sticking to the local Malay language..
I am a Muarian..
But, not living there..
Love is still there in Muar..
Would always go back for the satay for breakfast and air pear...
We love Muar! Would definitely go back
It's where I grew up! Totally agree that the food is great and cheap in Muar.
Awesome that you grew up in Muar! Such a nice town with great food
Love to visit local coffee place like this Elephant coffee shop.
Hope they open soon and hope the covid situation is getting better there 👍🏻
Hope it does too! The aroma coming from the shop was tantalizing too 🤤
Loll jumi😂😂 49 yrs then change to long time 😆 yep the main point it's been there for long time hahaa.. man woodfire coffee, never see that anymore these days! Love how Jumi just steal the toast while Greg talking, I do that too 🤣
We got our confirmation! www.thestar.com.my/metro/metro-news/2020/11/17/old-world-flavour-in-muar
It was sooo cool! Really one of the coolest places we’ve been to in all of Malaysia. That old world charm is something we love. 😂😂😂
