Fer real. Thanks for your previous comment! Not all criticism is valid, but I still read it all. With this last one, I hope I found the right balance. (Won't always be as easy to thread this needle in the future, though.)
@@drspectred I watch Marvel Snap videos and their thumbnails often show two or three main cards of their deck. Could be similar here, like showing just the Wee, hack and blueprint and saying "World Record!" or something. I fully understand the pain of trying to balance a thumbnail tho, it's hard as fuck :')
I just have to say this was one of your most fascinating videos. I always love how you deel dive into your explanations of how you are thinking. Its so helpful. One of the the best balatro players tbh
In an endless run, is it not worth it to add random cards with purple seals to the deck? You saw ~4 of those by round ~21 and skipped them all, based on the argument that you already had a purple 2. Wouldn't picking up those extra purple seals pay off quickly in the form of better deck manipulation? E.g. adding a random purple card technically dilutes your deck, but immediately improves it once it generates a Death or Hanged Man card, or pays off in other ways via Fool or Hermit or Temperance or Strength.
Omg I had no idea Idol picks from your available cards! I've been trying the Wee strategy lately but ignoring Idol and using Heart Stone + Dice instead 😭
I think spinning the wheel when going long and when you have a good build is more detrimental than good, since it prevents you from using ectoplasm, and even polychrome isn't that good.
Wasn't needed! But would've been totally worth it; I just forgot about it. We could have gotten more value by rerolling into a boss which didn't debuff our cards (in exchange for the nominal $10 up-front cost).
I wonder if taking on the Pillar early carries benefits down the line. Probably not when he has the reroll voucher, but sometimes in the earlier antes I like to take on and defeat a devastating boss so that he won't show up again later in the run. Like defeating the plant early when I've got steal kings going.
Yeah, the great outcomes are anhk, immolate, wraith, hex, ectoplasm. The seal cards are also good, so really only 4 of the results aren't good. Wonder what was in the pack for this seed. Edit: It was talisman and deja vu, coulda put a red seal on king of hearts. not the hugest loss
7:30 You've made this skip tag argument before, claiming that skipping an early round costs you a later one, and even after reading your reddit post I still don't agree with it. The point here is that you get extra resources from skipping, resources you can use to buy more stuff from the shops you do see! Or what about the following framing? You're trading off seeing six shops in antes 2 and 3 but having less money to buy stuff in them, vs. seeing five shops in antes 2 and 3 but having more money to buy stuff in them. I think a stronger argument against skipping here is that you really want the Overstock voucher, and also some scoring help for the ante 2 boss, and skipping the Small Blind would make it very hard to fulfill both criteria in the one remaining shop before the boss.
If you Skip, Riff-Raff likely (not guaranteed) means you have enough money to afford the Overstock and enough points to beat the Boss without too much trouble. Every shop gives you more material to make more money (or otherwise generate value). When you Skip, your build takes one round longer to come online, so you generate less value in all future Rounds. Whatever value generators you end up with, you get to keep them for one Round fewer because the scoring requirements will catch up to you one Round sooner. For example, in the distant future, your Rebate is earning you hundreds of dollars per round, but you have to sell it to buy Idol one Round sooner. Your Lucky Cards are generating (small amounts of) money every Round, but you have to turn them into Glass one Round sooner. The rare exception is when a Skip immediately gives you the ability to earn more from the current Round (such as a Mega Buffoon Pack giving you a Faceless Joker or a Golden Joker). A more common exception is in long Endless runs, some Voucher Tags can be worth it, given how impactful certain Vouchers are. I explain it better here: www.reddit.com/r/balatro/comments/1ctwv83/youre_still_wrong_about_skipping/
@@drspectred I read that reddit thread and argued against this point there, too. Or take your hypothetical here: why does the non-skipper get Rebate or Riff-Raff, not the skipper? Why would skipping make our build take one round longer to come online? The only reason why we even *considered* skipping (for the $25 tag) was that we might get *more* resources than we would've gotten without skipping. Which would allow us to spend more in the shop, incl. rerolling more and thus seeing more jokers. The argument against skipping must be that we're actually *not* getting enough economic value out of that $25 tag to make up for losing that shop in the first round of ante 2, not that we're somehow losing one super-valuable shop in round 50 or something. And this becomes more obvious in cases when even you've argued in favor of skipping, like taking the $25 tag in ante 1. Similarly, if the $25 tag was buffed to give $100 instead, you'd have presumably picked it in ante 2, too, even though you can earn >>$100 per round in endless.
Faith, mostly. With enough money and time, you'll get whatever Jokers you want. You always get Blueprint. You always get Brainstorm. Eventually. In a failed attempt, I ended up getting +18k on a Wee which I didn't pick up until Ante 10.

The base scoring is built around poker hands, but ultimately it's much more about getting fancy jokers that'll give you a big score and tarot cards to help shape your deck
Based around poker. Each played hand gives chips and mult. Chips x Mult = Score. Harder to play hands (i.e. straight flush) give more chips and mult than easier hands (i.e. pairs). You win each round by scoring over the target. You have a number of hands and discards to reach the score. Unused hands turn into money. You use money to buy jokers, vouchers, tarot cards, celestial cards and/or buster packs. All of which help you to either score higher, make it easier to get a particular hand or get more money.
Common misconception! Using Blueprint (or Brainstorm) does not cause it to grow faster. Blueprint copies the resulting +Chips but does not grow itself. The same is true with Dagger. Blueprint will copy the +Mult but won't delete an extra Joker (the Dagger itself).
