I grew up in Cali and had heard of ling cod. Then I came to Australia 27years ago, discovered it and found it to be so tasty and satisfying yet my Aussie husband refuses to eat it!!

Great casting with the over head reel. I get a birds nest every time. Yeah, they grab the long tail instead of the hook. Trim the tail a bit, but I or a bit from the front to get the hook further back.

This is so beautiful. My favorite part had to be 0:00. It was so educational, emotional, funny, happy, wholesome, sad, and cool at the same time. I think this was a good part because it was also extremely cute and made me tear up. I hope you’re doing fine after that trip to the hospital and that you don’t get injured. If you do, make sure to remember all of us have your back and won’t let you down unless you groom a child. This is so cool but also scared me after you got hurt by that ‘sea monster.’ It scared me to be honest.. wait I already said that. But also that looks super painful and I hope youre doing alright.
If you wanna hook em, you've gotta give the line just a second or two of slack after they bite before setting the hook. If you pull back hard to set the hook before they've fully sucked the bait into their gullet then you're just gonna rip that jig right outta their mouth. Good luck, my friend!
Edit: ideally, if you aren't looking to harvest your catch for food then you don't want to gullet-hook. When you feel the bite keep in mind that ripping upward with your rod vs ripping backward makes a difference.

Hello ! Thanks for the video. I was wondering if it's not painful for the fish to be so long out of the water and if it's not injured by the hook ? Real question, I don't know anything about fishing.
Out on the wild, fish take minor injuries on a regular basis. Any predatory fish like lingcod are used to chomp other fish alive which have sharp thorns all over their body. Fishing hook is nothing compared to fish bones which they eat everyday. Unless the fishing hook hit the gills, then there's nothing to worry about.
As of being out of the water for a while, as long as the gills kept hydrated and it's not so hot, they should be fine. Filming process would not take as much time to kill a fish.
This doesn't mean that it is okay to take fish out of the water for fun.
As for eating it, it is a different story.
Naturally we, human, are predators. Like a big fish eating smaller fish, we are a creature that eats other creatures :)

@@JacobColvin yea catch and release is bad and unnecessary because of the stress and pain the fish is experiencing its generally better to just look at the animals and if this is not possible without disturbing them don't.

I don't live near the ocean, but I do live fairly close to several larger lakes, and people frequently leave fishing line out there. I always pick up as much as I can because I've heard stories and seen some videos about what can happen to the poor wildlife. Please make sure you clean up when you go fishing, everyone ( though I'm sure with most people who watch these videos, they do)

Almost one year ago, i was cutting a apple but i din't know that that was a super sharp knife... i cut in my thumb, al the way to mij bonen, and then ther came so much blood out. I freakd out and cryd out of pain. My mom came and askd what was wrong. When she saw my thumb she splashd some water on it, then she cald my dad and cald my docter...
