- Learn how to leverage a bit of bookmark magic to clear/reset slicer selections on a drillthrough page. Even when those slicers have no association with any of the drillthrough filters.

Exactly the solution I was looking for. Well explained in a short video. Great! Thanks.
Glad it helped!
thanks for this video. A really not trivial application combining slicers with drill-through. Fantastic!
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you, Reid, I thought I was going to be stuck until I found your video
Nice trick, Reid. Saved my day. I was looking for something like this for a long time. Thank you for sharing.
Hi Reid,
Amazing trick you are doing great
Exactly this the thing which i required for my project
Thanks Reid

Nice! It was very helpful for me, just what I was looking for, thanks a lot
Glad it helped!
Good post. Funny thing, I just designed my own solution for the similar challenge a few weeks ago. In my case, I have to drill to the detail page that shows atomic transactions, but without the drill-through functionality (which is annoying to the users) but rather using a set of buttons on summary page. So I created a set of bookmarks on the detail page that correspond to the criteria on the home page, i.e. Closed vs Pending, etc. However, I also wanted to pass a filter for the selected period and another criteria, which I achieved with hidden synchronized slicers. This is where your implementation ends, but I wanted to go further. I wanted for users to be able to change the pseudo drill-through filter without leaving the detail page and continue their analysis. Let's say I drill through to see closed trx, which I pass via hidden slicer. I also have the Closed appear on the detail page as a slicer, but this is actually a button that looks exactly as slicer with the use of images and button text magic. Now when user wants to see Pending trx without leaving the detail page, they click "fake" slicer and it navigates them to the identical page where the button replaced with the real visible Trx Type slicer.
I can't stress enough that we have to jump through hoops and waste our time inventing something like this just because Microsoft won't give us conditional navigation by a calculatable name of a bookmark, just like they did with the page navigation.
That is indeed a clever solution! But yes sadly sometimes we need to jump through a lot of hoops for certain functionalities. Hopefully someday we can pass a bookmark name into an assigned bookmark!
Hi, This idea is surprised.
Thank you.
I have one question.
What should I do if I can drill through from multiple pages?
Is there any other way other than creating multiple back buttons with bookmarks?
It would be greatly appreciated if you could explain the details.
Cool
How did you get the back button to do two actions ? Navigation and bookmark 😳
Is there a video where you had explained how you had designed both the table in both the page - which looks like pivoted table with sub total and total for each coloumn. I tried with all visual option, but was not able to have a table matrix that looks like the one you had shown here in the video - Mainly the one in the destination page.
I think you might be looking for the stepped layout toggle as a table feature to turn that on?
That's why I don't have slicers in my Drill Through pages (which always are hidden) for the user's playground I have details page which is not hidden
That would make it simpler, for sure. But sometimes your client requests them anyways. Only so far a recommendation can go with a client.
How to create a form in power bi ?
You can't create a form in Power BI, but you can extract data from the excel file or sharepoint list the data goes into
@@HavensConsulting thanks
So, I'm definitely not an expert, which is probably why I struggled to understand your solution, but wouldn't you be able to just select the visuals you want the back button to affect, and then go from there? My back button is also associated with a bookmark to "Reset Drill-Through", and it seems to work the same as your method, but there wasn't a need for the extra hidden slicer. I just made sure the visuals I wanted to reset were selected when I "Updated" the bookmark, and now when I click the back button, it resets the visuals I want it to and keeps the others the same. I'm sorry if this doesn't make sense or is completely unrelated, but I'm really just trying to understand the difference, if any.
Hi there! So if you're navigating "back" to a page with a bookmark, you have to make the bookmark on that destination page. Because of this that page requires a synced slicer from the drillthrough page, and to be reset, when that capture state is made. Otherwise the bookmark made on the return page won't be able to "reset" the slicer on the other page. Hope this helps
The problem you are solving is really a pain in the back. The workaround you used works, which is great, but in a real world scenario this workaround is inapplicable as it gets you back to a certain page where as the starting page for the drill through operation could be different.
There's an additional solution I have if multiple pages are involved. Almost all my solutions I post come from client scenarios, and this one is currently used in an enterprise model. Sometimes some solution is better than none, and you have to work with what the software limitations are. :)
@@HavensConsulting Hey, great workaround for this problem! However, could you share idea on solving problem with multiple pages involved?
@@MichaOzimek
I'm also looking for that solution. Did you find it?
hi, the video is good. but i found it difficult to understand on viewing it the first time. if you could explain a litter slower then it would be good. thanks!
Thanks for the feedback! I'll consider that for future videos. For videos like this you also have playback speed control as well, found within the gear icon settings. Hope this helps!
