I purchased one at Sam's Club 15 years ago and have kept it inside a hot garage in Florida. To my surprise, it started my car today after not being used for 5 years. I did have to plug it into an outlet to charge it up but worked like new after. Paid $39 for my FatMax charger in 2008 so they are made to last. Thanks for the video for when I was charging it up I watched it, for I had forgot how to turn the thing on.
I've watched a few videos of other people explaining how to use the fatmax but you did the best of all. Thanks for a beginning to end explanation on how to properly jump your battery👍

Some tips for those in the comments having issues: This is not a battery charger. After reading through the owners manual I looked up online it says nowhere that you can use it as a trickle charger. It's purely a jumpstarter. If it's giving you the caution symbol when you connect it to the battery you probably need to charge the battery pack for a day or until fully charged. It wouldn't start my car yesterday but I left it plugged in all day and night and it started my car right up today. Once you get your car started let it run for a little while and your battery should be charged. If not you have a bad alternator or something. Remember, it works best when fully charged so be sure to plug it in whenever you can. Edit: also thanks for the video. Someone gave me one of these and I had never used it til yesterday.
Great tips! Today was the first day I've ever needed this and found myself with no help around.. So this video and these comments were essential in me successfully jumping my own Mustang. I've been having battery issues for a while, I'm guessing it's the alternator bc I've got a relatively new battery, but even after letting it run for over an hour, and driving it all around, it still needs a jump..
@@ihlbit1 Yes, I noticed that indicator when I was jumping the battery! I'm definitely going to test it first thing tomorrow. Today I wasn't even sure I could jump my car by myself lol. And I wouldn't have even attempted it if not for this vid an the comments section.
@@kristenjustkristen9462 yea I had only ever used it to air up my tires, had to look up the jumpstarter video lol. Best of luck with the car, hopefully it turns out to be a simple fix like a loose wire.

Yep, for the price, they are great peace of mind. And they also are a good charging bank while camping. Plus it has the flash light if you’re working on your truck on the side of the road- AND it’s a small air compressor. It’s a great thing to carry at all times.
Just a suggestion when you go to connect cable to jumping equipment of any kind: Just before you make the final connection blow across the battery to get rid of any fumes. On a hot day especially hydrogen can build up and explode. On a windy or cold day you MIGHT get away with making a spark and nothing happening but on a hot day there is a good chance it could. When I was 16 I was using my father's car to jump the lawn mower on a hot day, guess what happened . . . . . . .
@@Rocky-zr1918 A DOT report on annual injuries from exploding auto batteries, "The majority (62%) of the 2,280 persons estimated to have been injured by motor vehicle battery explosions were diagnosed as having chemical burns . . ." Aren't you the lucky one
@@Rjt6606- I had that happen to me. When I was a kid my father was helping jump start another car. It was a hot day and the air was still, my fathers car was not running at that moment I touched the cables. It was mostly in the battery and it cracked the top of the battery but no acid got out. It doesn't cost a red cent to, as you said, 'be safe than sorry'.
Thanks, man! This 60 yr old woman read the instructions and they talk about connecting whichever is grounded to the chasis (pos or neg) to that post. Totally confusing. Appreciate you taking the time to show how this works! Stanley's printed instructions could be revised to be far more clear.
What does that caution light mean ? I followed all the steps the part where I turn on the knob there is a caution light I tested the alternator it’s the same . Does it mean in need to replace the alternator?
So I had the little caution symbol popping up when I was trying to jump my car yesterday. I just took the pack inside and plugged it in n let it charge all day and night. Tried it this afternoon and no caution symbol and it started the car right up. Tl;Dr try charging it completely
I just got my Stanley fat Max.. I just aired up my riding lawnmower battery, went to jump craftsman lawnmower and it didn’t have enough power ? Does airing up one little front tire deplete tge whole battery? Curious I’ve had one of these power numbers before (lasted 5 years) and it would easily jump my battery AND air up tires.. in fact I had jumped 2 vehicles and still had power.
I would only use this in an emergency situation. (flat tire, dead battery, etc) so you battery is reserved for the jump start. One could easily just drive to a gas station and get air if the tires are just low.
cand you use this charger to charge a car battery? I have never used my powermax. I'm afraid if I charge it drive to the store when I come back to the car my battery will be dead. please help
No, I don't believe you can use it to charge a battery. Once you start your car and drive it around for 15 or so minutes the battery should be charged. If not your alternator is bad
That maybe because your battery is completely at zero, so your Fatmax can’t tell if you have it plugged in correctly or not. You may have to wait a bit or make sure your battery never goes to absolute 0
Not with this particular battery pack. All it does is give enough power to jump start. Would be nice if it had the ability to trickle charge but I'm pretty sure it doesnt
Once the car starts, and you unhook it, will I have to do this again after I drive it and turn the car off? Or do you have to let the car run for awhile? I just bought one so I have only used it for my tires. Just want to make sure I don't have to to keep using this till I can get the battery fully charged. Thanks

Charged what? The battery pack or the car battery? It doesn't charge the battery or anything, just gives enough power to start the car. It'll work best if you fully charge the battery pack, which can take a day or so.

If there's a triangle between the two battery connection figures does that mean the cables aren't on correctly?

It'll work best if you fully charge the battery pack, which can take a day or so.
