I had a birth defect too! An atrial septal defect is a hole in your heart. I was born with one and had surgery at 3 months old. I was the 'Christmas miracle' that year. I never was special again.
I have that too ans Ventricular Septal Defec and Pulmonary Atresia.I have 22q11.2 Delection Syndrome.Which can cause short stature,heart defects,vision and hearing defects and Hypothyriodism and much more.I was diagnosed at 6 months old.
I can control which way my eyes look around at any time, I don’t have a lazy eye or anything it’s just a family trait of mine to have hyper control of both eyes.
I can in focus my eyes to!! People always notice that my eyes at all glazed and moving randomly and people always freak out when I like cross my eyes or do the opposite.

My brother has the same problem, did all the same things you did except he actually got another surgery in middle school that fixed his problem. However, he has no peripherals on that eye, making him practically legally blind in that eye. A friend of mine was playing Super Smash Bros with him once with some other people and noticed his weak point. My brother is a Super Smash Bros master (I've never been able to beat him myself) but when playing on our Switch connected to the TV, it's harder for him to perceive what's happening on the side of the screen where he had the wandering eye. My friend used this to his advantage and managed to beat him. My brother was a good sport about it. He also can't watch stage or screen performances without glasses on. I don't know all the details or how it works, but apparently he can't register 3-D imagery without his glasses.
Feels like a great time for me to talk about voluntary nystagmus, something I found I had when I was young. It’s kinda like blurry vision 2.0 in the sense that I can make things go blurry, then make everything shake. It’s pretty cool but very useless

I related to this video way too much. I also had lazy eye, although I apparently wasn't born with it but I developed it when I was young. They gave me an eyepatch too, and I also got surgery (which fixed most of it, although just like you it still wandered somewhat). My eyes are dark though, . However my eye problems didn't end there, a few years ago my vision was starting to get worse, so I were glasses now.
Optometry student here, you have exotropia :) given the natural position of your eye that's more likely to allow you to unfocus your vision than control over the ciliary muscle (though it could be a combination) Anyway, eyes are cool Better to be born with strabismus than to develop it later on; now you won't have to deal with double vision!
