Mine_Zone I don't take it for granted, I am just lucky enough to have been given the opportunity. it isn't our fault that these kids are poor and they don't have school. It's not like we took it from them. I feel bad for them but we aren't the ones to blame.

I work in the IT industry in the US and work with Indian nationals who come here to work and make a good living. I've always wondered how there can be so many people from India who have so much yet they allow this to go on. Why? We have many problems in the US with poverty and social injustice. Yet we also have many social programs that help children and adults with nutrition, housing, and medical care. I volunteer and donate to programs that assist with homelessness and poverty. Even now I'm staying overnight in a church so we can get up early and feed people on Christmas Day. Do people in India, other than this wonderful actor, feel the urge to be charitable?
india is a poor country. average income per year is about 1500 dollars compare that with US and its 53,000. india is simply too poor to have all those social welfare programs. have you seen poor people in US? they're so rich they're fat
***** Many people in the US are fat because they make bad food choices, not because they are rich, or are poor and seem rich compared to people in India. We have a social program that gives SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) benefits to people whose incomes are below the poverty line in their area. They get enough funds to provide good nutrition which can be spent only on food items that must be prepared. But we don't restrict them from buying what we call junk food. I'd like to see that restricted to only beans, rice, vegetables, butter, milk, cheese, crackers, bread, and a limited amount of meat, and the staples needed to make things for the kids here, like cookies and cake. We have food manufacturing lobbyists who would fight that sort of commonsense change. It would leave more money to give to others in need, and would encourage more people to work. Another reason people in the US might be poor and fat could have something to do with being too lazy to work. Yes, I said it!
As for the income level difference between India and the US, the cost of living is also different. Yet you have companies like Monsanto raping the land in India, polluting the soil, charging high fees for their seeds, and the food produced is exported to other countries. This makes Monsanto and rich people richer and poor people poorer.
I did find an article from 2013 about the poverty line and food costs in India, though it isn't clear. Obviously, India is made up of many states with different economies. I don't know if you quoted me a 1500 a year income in Rs or USD. This is what the article said:
"Many poor people live with their entire families in cities. But such families typically cook and eat at home, not at dhabas. The Tendulkar line provides for a very basic calorie intake of around 2,000 calories/day/person. This requires 400 grams of wheat/rice and 100 grams of dal. At an open market rate of Rs 22/kg for wheat and Rs 40/kg for chana dal, the cost comes to Rs 12.80 per day - well within Rs 33[per day/per person], even allowing for costs of fuel and vegetables. Now, a family of five living on Rs 5,000 definitely lacks a decent living standard. It has only just crossed the World Bank’s “extreme poverty” line. But it is no longer unable to eat."

Hey Sandy that was a very sensible point made by you.Though i am not the most appropriate person to answer this question but i will try anyways. The major problem in the system of our country is that we too have a lot of programs and schemes made by the government for homeless kids, orphans, old people with no home etc. etc. but majority of the politicians of our country and the government officials, responsible for the schemes/programs are corrupt. i guess they are not even bothered. And yes we have many good people in our country. Actually if you ever visit India and are stuck or need any help, 9 out of 10 Indians will help you. There are langars organised in Gurudwaras, which provide free food to anyone and the rich people go their to provide service (cooking, washing utensils etc. ). And to be honest. there are too many points to jot down. Like my grandfather provides free tution classes to children who can't go to school. There are millions of people doing something good to keep our faith in humanity. It's just that the population of our country is around 1.40 billion as of december 2016, so I guess its really difficult to help everyone. But this guy, Varun Pruthi is doing a great job. Definitely, Varun Pruthi is doing a wonderful job. The more people making the problems visible, the better. I appreciate your answer, because it points out what I was hoping to know. Yes, India is very large, with a huge population. The problems from going from a rural lifestyle to a modern one make it even harder for the poor. Now that the poor must compete with the rich for basic subsistence foods, like oils, rice, dal, etc., it's a global problem. I'm glad to hear that in spite of the corrupt goverment officials, there are programs and people trying to make a difference. Peace and Happy New Year!
