This father is so blessed. His son is an amazing person. So much depth to his character and his philosophical way of analyzing the world.

Such a wonderful reminder to acknowledge how hard the struggle has been for me. As Forest has said we tend to marinate in the negative and forget the positive. I didn’t realize how much compassion l gave to others and so little to myself. Thank you for all you both do in elevating our self worth.

Yeah, clinical depression accentuates this about a hundredfold. "You are the only one you will be with every hour of every day for the rest of your life". Thanks for that, bringing that to the fore was a big help (semi kidding). I'm not sure if my depression was the result of the problem you are discussing or the cause, but it sure turbo'd the issue when it blossomed to the point where I literally slept full time (about 23 a day) for about three months. Meds help, but they certainly do not fix the problem.
Being raised by an engineer perfectionist dad that for some reason expected me to be adult capable as a fairly young child didn't help, but at least I've buried that hatchet. Apologies do wonders, especially from someone you love, and that loves you. Like everyone else alive, he screwed something up...go figure.
Having a superb support structure is critical to getting through this at least to the point I have. Everyone tells me I'm likeable, I guess it's just me that doesn't see it. I wrote that before you said it, just so you know I'm not a parroting idiot.

I need a friend I have no support structure at this time what do y’all think about leaving your email here in the comments on RUclips do you think that would be OK?

Comparing what I think of myself with what I would think of the same thing in another person does me little good. I hold myself to a higher standard than I hold other people to. It's how I was raised.

Every podcast is full of gems that I can use to enhance my experience , raise awareness of myself and others, and reframe in ways that let me try some personal upgrades with curiosity and self- compassion. Love what you do, and the father-son banter makes me smile!😊❤

I believe that so much about our struggle to enjoy ourselves lies in the LIES of what our culture “expects” of us. If we don’t possess the traits - I won’t degrade Qualities or Character here - then it’s almost impossible to develop as a healthy human that lives, cares for, and values themselves
It’s great that you’re creating material for discussion on the (and similar) themes.
I remember looking for resources on self-forgiveness - a significant struggle throughout my life - and even I until last year there was NOTHING on RUclips or even the broader interweb.

Thank you Rick for emphasising the need for tender compassion as well as fierce 🌹🙏 Also, it’s occurred to me, when you’re both talking about news channels, that (with respect to our minds/brains), it’s not that there is more bad news; it’s that the “bad news” channels get more airtime 🌹🙏🙏
