  • The Beatles performing “Real Love.”
    ‘Real Love’ was released to coincide with Anthology 2. Geoff Wonfor and Kevin Godley, who was a member of 10cc and later became one of the UK’s leading pop-promo makers, directed the accompanying video.
    Wonfor, the director of the Anthology documentary series, filmed the Beatles recording in the studio and Godley combined this with archive footage of the band, adding some animated sequences as well as film he shot in 1995. This clip appeared in the special features section of The Beatles Anthology boxed set when it was released on DVD on 2003.

      @John lennon ✔ John wanted to leave the band in 1968 after the White Album was released, and Ringo quit for two weeks during the recording of it. During "Let It Be", George quit the band for a few days after having a fight with Paul over how to play a guitar riff. Then after playing in Toronto with the Plastic Ono Band, John wanted to quit the band (again) and put the whole band on hiatus. Paul went off to record the "McCartney" album which was going to be released in competition with "Let It Be" and then he came out to the press that The Beatles had officially broken up. At the end of 1970, the band legally filed for dissolution.

    • @sub-jec-tiv
      @sub-jec-tiv 2 года назад +52

      @Torisu It’s not even about the “quality” of his playing... even his earliest solos are melodically spot-on, and make you feel wonderful. Harrison’s musicality was about expressing beauty. It’s that quality that has had such a huge influence on guitarists all over the world. When i went to Tokyo for the first time in the 90s, I listened to J-pop radio and noted that many of the guitar breaks sounded like George! His musical soul is what continues to captivate people, not how cleanly or how fast he could pick.

    This song still invokes strong emotions. These four guys spent their formative years together, and through the ups and downs, the highs and lows, became legends in the process and are forever connected. It's just so poignant that, after a sadly bitter end to their time together, and then losing one in the process, they came together to make magic again. "Free As a Bird" is a great great track, and I know they prefer that one, but for myself "Real Love" is one of the greatest Beatles records ever made. To hear the (then) modern day surviving members get together one more time, rekindling that magic, mixed in with an old track Lennon never got to finish; it's just beautiful.

    I don't know what it is about this song, it has elements of joy and sadness, celebration and loss. It was never written as a Beatles song, it was finished long after John had passed away, and yet somehow there's a finality to this song, as if it were written to be the song played over the end credits to the Beatles story. The last encore to the world's greatest set list that encapsulates everything about the band and their legacy. If the Beatles were ever going to release one final song, this had to be it. The perfect way to end the story.

    • @ottocarson
      @ottocarson 3 года назад +10

      @@Cosmo-Kramer I mean, if you listen to the demo tapes, John singing with the piano or the guitar, the atmosphere is unique, a bittersweet song. It’s actually real love, what he’s trying to transfer. The recording of The Beatles is faster, full of joy, too positive in my opinion. The voice of John was accelerated and the tempo is not at all according to the original demo. I think the version that is closest to John’s concept is the one performed by Regina Spektor. Just a piano and a calm voice expressing exactly what real love is. A perfect version, in my opinion.

    In my mind, this is the perfect send off to the greatest band of all time. It feels like they raised John from the dead to record this. 3:20 always makes me shed a tear too. The media always made out like they hated each other. Get Back showed that it was never as hostile as the media claimed. It’s a real shame that they broke up, but deep down they still loved each other till the very end, evidenced by Paul giving George his house to stay at in his final days, Johns final words to Paul being “think of me now and again, old friend”, and Ringo and Paul’s continued friendship to this day. They will always be the Beatles. The Fab Four will live on forever. May John Lennon, George Harrison, George Martin, Brian Epstein, Stuart Sutcliffe, Mal Evans, Linda McCartney, Cynthia Lennon, Geoff Emmerick, Billy Preston, Maureen Starkey, and everyone that was involved with the Beatles along their journey that has passed Rest in Peace and may Paul, Ringo, Olivia Harrison, Jane Asher, Pattie Boyd, Klaus Voormann, Pete Best, Yoko Ono, and everyone else alive that was there for the journey live forever ❤️

These are my favorite two songs by John solo because he's speaking to us from beyond the grave. "Free as a Bird" is what he is.
