- Marmalade are a Scottish pop rock band originating from the east end of Glasgow, originally formed in 1961 as The Gaylords, and then later billed as Dean Ford and The Gaylords, recording four singles for Columbia (EMI). In 1966 they changed the band’s name to The Marmalade, and were credited as such on all of their subsequent recorded releases with CBS Records and Decca Records until 1972. Their greatest chart success was between 1968 and 1972, placing ten songs on the UK Singles Chart, and many overseas territories, including international hits "Reflections of My Life", which reached #10 on the US Billboard Hot 100 Chart and #3 on the UK Chart in January 1970, and "Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da", which topped the UK chart in January 1969, the group becoming the first ever Scottish group to top that chart.
The original members began to drift away in the early 1970s, resulting in the band departing Decca in 1972. In 1973 the first evolved line up of the band rejoined EMI Records and with their first record release became known simply as Marmalade.] All subsequent record releases are credited similarly.
Graham Knight (an ongoing member from the pre-Marmalade "Dean Ford and The Gaylords" lineup) remained until September 2010. The band still exists, with many additional further evolved lineups including vocalist Sandy Newman, a member since 1975, touring the nostalgia circuit. Видеоклипы
It is not the first and only hit from the Beatles that did good even with other artists. This shows how good Beatles really was. John, Paul, George and Ringo were an inspiration for good songs from many bands in the period with them and after them.
Yes. One of them was Веселые ребята. The first time when i heard The Beatles s song it was in russian language. Like as Girl, Baby you can drive my car.. and etc
Este tema fue el que llevó al primer lugar .
Tema que no quisieron grabar The Beatles, lo hicieron mucho después cuando se dieron cuenta del éxito obtenido por Dean Ford y su banda.
yes and the covers were usually better .john lennon said that himself
Mas afinal de contas de quem são gravou primeiro obladi obladi?
Foram os Beatles ?
Ou fieam os Marmeladas?
Heiiimmm???

Love, Love Beatles version, however, Marmalade topped UK charts with theirs. I saw them live, rocked the place!!
Loved these guys. But reflections was my all time favorite. To this day it’s so hauntingly beautiful to me.
My favourite too, I've been listening to Reflections a lot recently and it still gives me goosebumps, such a beautiful song 🙂

They were staying in the same hotel in Aberdeen on the 25th January 1969 and spent a while at my wedding reception before doing a gig in the evening.
They were all a down to earth bunch of guys.
Never seen a happier group of lads.
You need to watch videos by The Tremeloes.
Its just great & everyone carries this tune in their heads. A rare song that stands the test of time.
Funny thing! I woke up today hearing it in my head and it took me a but a few seconds to correctly recall all the words. Still a good one!
wow! i missed the good old days and it made me feel young again listening to the above song! Dean was a natural good singer RIP and to the rest of the band mates wherever you are...cheers!
The best band to come out of Glasgow 😃👍😃😃👍
I hadn’t heard this song in more than forty years! This song was played in the radio in Peru during my childhood 😍
Шикарно!

I was in 4th year juniors, my mum bought me a transistors radio for Christmas. I took it school put it

Just love Marmalade, Happy memories of my youth .
Old school 😂
Only just found out the interesting history of this song.
My mum used to have a big green radio when I was in my toddler high chair days.
One of the first songs I can remember , brings back lovely memories of my lovely mum RIP

reached number1 in the UK during June 1968 and stayed in the charts for a total of 13 weeks.
Look how young they were! So cute and bashful, they were adorable! I love this band and their music is fantastic! Thank you for uploading this treasure!
I'm a huge Marmalade fan and know their music very well. Their 1966-1972 output was a rich and varied one and although this song topped the UK charts its not one my favourite Marmalade songs( it's a cover but still a Marmalade recording) but it's actually pretty good.
Interesting that the original Beatles song was such a huge hit that a virtual copy (not a note is changed) could also be a hit. I remember people just couldn’t get enough of it. No wonder, it is very difficult to listen to it and not to smile.
It’s because this would of been a single and the Beatles version wasn’t a single it was just on the white album singles were usually how songs got to number one
@@scarygarey3271 1968 had already had a couple of Number 1 singles for the Beatles, Hey Jude and Lady Madonna. I guess they were more interested in albums by then.

After The Beatles broke up this band called Marmalade took this song to be their first number one hit song as the band won the contest on
Hughie Green's Opertunity Knocks as I am dedicating this song to my old school friends who are both sisters as I hope to see them both again as this is to welcome them both back into my life forever as I hope to see them both again very soon
to Chris and Hester from Billyxxxxx
And one year later, they look entirely different and have written their own brilliant song, "Reflections of my Life"
Awesome version.
Wow, what a hell of a cover!!!
My husband sang this to me we added some fun to it❤
What, there wasn't enough fun in the song already? Or do you mean something else?🤔

I WAS BONR 1964 EU TAMBEM TINHA 4 ANOS.
It's amazing how other artists covered The Beatles' (and Dylan's) songs around the same time as the original releases. Nowadays, unless a band at a concert wants to play a song that everyone knows is by someone else, it's the more obscure songs that seem to get covered (because most people are unfamiliar with the original and the cover version seems like a new song).
A lot of those covers were artists trying to cash in by making singles out of album tracks. If people wanted to buy a single of Ob-La-Di they couldn't get the Beatles version but they could get this instead.
Yes and Lennon and McCartney were writing so many songs they couldn't record them all themselves and did ones for Lulu and many other artistes.
The Beatles were basically 50% cover songs in the early days. By the late 60s they had pretty much dropped out of the public eye in terms of performing in front of anyone, so it was easier for other bands to pick up some of these songs and put out a performance
Publisher Dick James offered Marmalade this Beatles song ahead of the issue of The Beatles (aka The White Album), and they released their version first. Marmalade cut the song not even knowing that it was a Lennon-McCartney composition. Marmalade's version came out first. Since a cover song is a reinterpretation of an existing, released song, technically the Beatles' version is a cover of the Marmalade version, even though McCartney wrote it! LOL
Funny how something that isn’t publicly embraced ! Becomes such a source of happiness , 🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲Imitation is such a grand compliment ❤️

Marvellously made! In love with this version of the song! Suppose it's even more fascinating than original song. Shame it's less famous.
Was number one in the UK at the time, doesn't get any bigger than that..
one of the best songs from my youth....memories...🤗👍❤️
Best Marmalade songs, Reflections of my life and Chains
Oh my god! How much I danced to this song anno! I was 16 at he time. Thanks!
My parents ran a B & B at our house north of Glasgow. The Marmalade stayed the night with us after a gig. I was very young and had never heard of them, but was amused by the band's name.
Love love ,I was at tap dancing school and that was the big dance wish I was back there 🥲🤣
Da ragazzini cantarla senza averla mai sentita. Era un ritornello tormentone del tempo
The Marmalade were a great group many lovely songs, happy memories of those days.
I think this was the first no. 1 hit on the UK charts for a band from Scotland. Now I know this is a very unpopular opinion, and I say this with the utmost respect to the fab four, but I think this record was better than the original.
You can never deny the impact the lads had on music; and I would never go there either. I love the Beatles; but this record had, to me, more sustenance.
Then again; I frankly liked the later works/solo ventures more than the mop top beginnings. Both undeniably entertaining...but 🤷♂️
More sustenance? Nah! - The Bedrocks were SO much better (and more authentic) though they didn't do as well as Marmalade in the charts (they still made 17).
@@geoffeagles4634 Thank you for the mentioning of the Bedrocks. I have to admit that previous to your reply I have never heard of their record. It is indeed a great spin on the record; and frankly, if you never heard the Beatles record, one could say it could have been an original. Very nicely done.
Again; I am awestruck, as this one was under the radar. As an Xer, I grew up listening to an eclectic taste of music including the Specials, Fun Boys Three, and so on.
At the end of the day though; thankful that the Beatles brought us all together
@@staxjackson1559 In '68 when these records came out we'd lost the pirates (the Marine Offences act was in '67 so only Caroline remained) so I doubt the Bedrocks got much airplay. I heard of them only because, in an interview, Paul said that it was his favorite version of the track.
This is my favourite Beatle song! However, from the North Midlands, saw Marmalade live, early 70's, Did a Great rendition, of a Classic!
Never heard before. They did a fab job.

You are so right. Amazing!
I’d agree if it was dramatically changed but they literally copy and pasted
@@scarygarey3271 both versions were in the top 10 at the same time here in New Zealand.
@@kiwihib yeah the Beatles didn’t release it as a single that’s why it was just on the white album singles were the ones that would usually make it to the top not album songs as often

Marmalade deserves more appreciation and praise than they’ve had in America. They released Ob-la-di Ob-la-da before the Beatles, and gave it an individual spin that’s quite charming.
how did they release it before the beatles when the beatles wrote it???????????
How did they release it before the Beatles when the Beatles wrote it.
@@decrepidoz7784 yes Paul wrote it, but this single was released before the White Album came out and the Beatles released theirs AFTER the album came out.
@@ohlookitscorn. The Beatles wrote a number of songs that were "given" to other groups. "A World without Love," recorded by Peter & Gordon is one example. "Bad to Me," recorded by Billy J. Kramer & the Dakotas is another. "I Wanna Be Your Man" was recorded by the Rolling Stones in 1963, before being released that year on a Beatles album. "If I Needed Someone" was recorded and released by a group named "The Stained Glass" before the Beatles album "Yesterday & Today" was released in the U.S. That may have been a mistake on the part of Capitol Records.
I read that Marmalade released their cover exactly 7 days after The Beatles
