  • This is the final video in this series of the restoration of this 1987 John Deere RX95 ride on mower lawn tractor. I originally found it a few weeks back on the curb on trash day. It was in very poor shape and headed to the dump, but with the help of a neighbor, I got it home and rescued it. In this video, we'll fix a problem with the brakes, reinstall the rear transaxle, change both drive belts, and finally mow grass with this thing! We'll see once and for all if it was worth all the trouble and expense.

Great job on this project! That has to be satisfying to finally complete it. The good news is, on a 30 year old mower you qualify for "classic car" tags so you can drive it on the street 😁👍 Say hi to George Jones

  • @stevesturdy4549
    @stevesturdy4549 Год назад +7

As you see, a little heat goes a long way! Even better with a torch, propane or even better MAPP gas, and don't quench it before you try to loosen the stuck item. Also, lose the WD-40, it's NOT a penetrating oil. Better to try Liquid Wrench, PB Blaster or Sea Foam Deep Creep. Keep on fixing stuff!

You had me laughing out loud several times as well calling your viewers bastards for just watching your struggle and not helping. Another highlight was you finally getting that broke bolt out of the brake caliper… and calling it a “fucker”… loved it! Happy mowing… I hope you love your lil old JD as much as I do.

Good looking, and sounds good. As for making mistakes, it happens to just about everyone. I rebuilt an automatic transmission, and left out a bushing that went between the input shaft and output shaft. Fortunately i figured it out before i put the transmission back in the car. Took about 10 minutes to pull the input shaft back out to install the bushing. The transmission worked just like it was supposed to.

That was a very nice reverse engineering style repair job Brad.
Holy crap they are much easier to build than to disassemble that's for sure.
I think every engineer/designer of stuff like this needs to be put on an ergonomic awareness course to help them understand just how much hassle poor design and thinking can cause so much frustration and pain for the customer.
Well done Sir and as we say in Scotland, "may yer lum lang reek" (U.S. translation: "may your chimney always have smoke").
All the best my friend and keep 'em comin'

Watched every video in the series, really interesting to watch all the work needed to get the mower fully operational. Felt the happiness on your behalf when everything was done and it mowed like a charm. Friday evening over here, so big cheers to Brad 😀
The municipality where I grew up used to offer summer jobs for local teenagers. I applied a few summers and usually got assigned grass mowing duties on a couple of church yards, around schools or other public buildings and a soccer field. Mowing the soccer field or around the schools and kindergartens was a piece of cake, unless the equipment failed to start. The church yards were a bit challenging. First zig-zagging between the graves with a Stiga Park front-deck ride-on mower. Then, going around every grave with a weed whacker, hopefully without accidentally mowing down any grave flowers. Good times, I liked operating bigger and better machinery than the weak electric mower we had at home.

Thank you for all you demostración’s I did watch all the videos and learn how to take. Apart Little John Deere RX 95 I have one and I begin experiencing problems with it I did want to learn how to remove the Deck cause I did had other brand and that was easier too remove the cutter pins of the deck 🤞 but this one they made it complicated specially the two at front that you even need to remove the right tire. And the problem you need to have the front jacket up and . That looks unsafe 😤

In my experience, when I have worked on steel bolt/aluminum housings I have used copper anti seize. I lubricates the threads and keeps the electrolysis from "welding" the bolt into the hole.

You could have tried 7-11 for one of those torch lighters, aka Walter White lighter, and heated the stuck bolt in the brakes thoroughly before you started taking it out. I don’t know it would have worked, but it would have been worth a shot, and you can light cigars with those lighters too.

"PB Blaster" is what you want to penetrate frozen bolts.
we called it "weasel piss" growing up.
hit the frozen parts a couple or few days before you want to remove w/ PB Blaster.
it will melt styrofoam and some plastics, even just a drop.
i'd keep it very far away from guitars, and anything plastic or nylon or vinyl or painted.
WD40 is a Water Displacement spray.
doesn't really lubricate, doesn't really protect.
i use WD40 after throwing my bicycle in the shower to spray all the water out the chain / between the links n' rollers of the chain itself.
then i wipe the WD40 off and use Rem Oil to actually lube the chain.
if it's wet or rainy out i may use strait mineral oil on the chain instead of Rem Oil.
i still know very little about guitars or playing one.
but i have a lifetime of experience in a few things.
i know you're going to rescue more stuff from the sidewalk.
be kind to yourself and invest in a can of PB Blaster for future projects.
    nice mower.
    fun project to follow along.
nice work on getting the stubborn bolt out w/o out weasel piss.
hope you find a old massey ferguson snowmobile from the 70's on the sidewalk that needs some t.l.c. next.
back when snowmobiles weren't so deadly and you could fix one on the trail.

Hello brad question after all . For all that work you did plus money you got tied up in that old John Deere . What do you think it was worth it ❓put all the effort into 1980 small ridding tractor . Reason I’m asking is cause . I purchase one my self. Couple month ago it was running fine but I forgot to raise the deck and run over some roots. 👎🏽 and snapped the belt .I did try to remove the cutter pins special the one at front they have some weird bolts hard to reach the cutter pins now I learn from your advise to remove the front tires . And worry about the other cutter pins later one thing at the time 😜 I’m glad the grass is not growing fast like in the beginning thank you for showing how to get my hand dirty 🤣
