As a kid my entire strategy was to get a Winged Star and pick up fly and negative-weight patches. I was wondering the exact same thing; glad to see kid me was right all along!
Note: Defense is a multiplicative effect based in a hidden base value, this is particularly relevant for the starting Compact Star because it has a base defense value of 0, meaning it gets no benefit from Defense patches
Man, I recently discovered the competitive KAR scene and have been watching your videos. I’m so psyched there’s an active scene out there, and I hope you guys keep it alive and it keeps growing. Such a great game.
Amazing that I knew the side effects of Weight in KAR before this tutorial came out. +Weight = Slightly increases speed and notably stronger offense, reduces gliding capability. Negligible loss in acceleration when at or near maximum. -Weight = Increased gliding capability, slightly reduces speed and notably weaker offense. Negligible gain in acceleration when at or near minimum. In short (as was said) +Weight will greatly benefit Demolition events and Drag Races, while -Weight is a must-have for Air events. Either gaining or losing weight can be useful in circuit races, but it relies on your preference and/or type of circuit race you are participating in.
@@supergamer1388this is the dumbest shit ever lmfao. If the Compact Star even slightly screws up just once, it dies while the Hydra lives. You’re only speaking theoretically.
I THINK the bonus from weight is mainly applied to ramming, not spinning or other forms of damage. I suspect this is why the Hydra ramming something is a near guaranteed kill even at lower speeds, while it's only a bit above average for spinning, while the Shadow Star does tons of damage while spinning, but not much for ramming
I wonder if any one has done a dissection of how the patches affect the different vehicles. I wanna know what the deal is with how the wheelie scooter's behavior in the air changes depending on your current patches.
I'm curious about the Jet Star. The boost it gets in the air isn't a "real" boost, right? But, it's not quite just an increase in glide speed either...
Also, the caps for each stat are 18, except HP which is 16. Which... kinda isn't true, it's actually that you just start with 2 HP by default, so your HP patch count is just X-2 Now pour one out for all the Charge collected on the Wagon Star, and Defense collected on the Compact Star
Boost always thought stronger boost speed, but realistically wouldn't that relate or push to Top Speed? Boost really enhances acceleration from rest to max speed, and from movement to rest negative acceleration to a complete stop with less skid-momentum. Thank you demonstrating, this one bit minus Weight always boggled my child self and older self today
Hey, this isn't super descriptive. I'd like to see an updated version that actually conveys the relationship something like "weight" has with your speed. This video gives me no frame of reference which is better for increasing my speed, weight or top speed. Can you explain negative weight, and how that affects your vertical takeoff? Does glide help you fly up when hitting more subtle angle differences, or is that machine dependent? Could you give a breakdown of what stats are notable for what machines? Kinda like a strategy guide for what to get, depending on the challenge?
So you knew that gaining weight reduced your ability to glide or jump? Or that the "Boost" actually makes you stop faster in other words "braking distance". Cuz I didn't Thats why he made it.
@@christiandeliz3310 do you know what multiplicative ir additive benefits these apply to speed or how much more damage you do with attack? Do any of these affect how much you drift when turning? I still have so many questions.
@@leonfire99 a little late, but I have enough hours in AirRide to give a bit more answers. A drifty Ride star like say The Boost star or slick star are really drift centric to start. Turn Patches would increase turn speed and give you a tighter turn Radius (ergo you spend less time drifting and turning so you do better on turns.) SOOOO if you want to be a drifty guy negative turn patches would stop really good turners , like say The Warp Star act more like a drift machine (though Holding A for a drift already feels good for drifting.) I don’t actually know if Offense Patches are additive or multiplicative so don’t want to speak too much on it, but I do notice that from 1 patch to say 5 patches is a sizable difference.
As a kid, I always assumed weight had a negative effect on gliding, but I got older and thought, "Nah, they wouldn't do that!" but here we are 😂
lol thats literally why im watching this vid rn

This is useful information to me cuz Compact is one of my main stars
That... explains quite a lot actually

Very to the point, nice video
The key to winning every race: Get multiple Charge patches and find the Hydra lol
There are entire montages of the hydra getting stun locked to death. It’s a terrible ride.
Even at max charge, a Compact star with sufficient Offense can stunlock the hydra to destruction.

I knew about Weight's effect on gliding, but I didn't notice the effect on attack damage. That's so cool...

It's more accurate to say that everything except HP starts at -2 since the City Trial vehicles are noticeably lesser than their Air Ride counterparts.
Yep. Those descriptions are very convoluted. I looked at top speed and wondered what it did.
Why would they make weight do that

What a bummer, I thought there was going to be explanations, not just repeating what the patches are called.
I felt speed and hp were the rarest
Looks like Glide does more. It literally shot kirby up into the sky. You forgot to mention that.
Does the turn stat affect air mobility?
What's the music in the beginning?
Only 2 minutes?
epic ngl
good video
Very great video! Will you being making another explaining all the items such as the effect patches and copy abilities?

This video tells you nothing more than the game itself does.”Top Speed increases your top speed.” I don’t see the point of this.
