I just received this phone about 2 weeks ago, works GREAT! I previously had the Blackberry Storm which had a 8G card, the Bold had a 2G car, so I just switched cards, which helped bring all my pics and videos to my new phone.
Blackberry is where you want to go, BUT, the Tour 2 9650 (codenamed: Essex) will be coming out shortly (rumored within the next month or two). When this phone releases, it's going to be the strongest Blackberry on the market. If you're going to buy any phone soon, make it the Tour 2. It will be worth the wait (like I said, rumors have said it will be out anywhere from a month from now all the way to next summer, but most clues are hinting towards the next month). Hope this helps!
Really, this phone is terrific. i have had it for about a month. The battery life is a beast! it's great. the non wifi isn't that much of a problem. The web browser is pretty good. love the way it feels in the hand and i haven't had a single problem with the trackball. The keyboard is great. Overall an excellent BB. recomend to anyone.
if you get a blackberry you could keep the same plan as long as you subscribe to a data plan which can cost 15-20 extra depending on which state your in but if you change your plan it would be a total of 50 including data and voice plan but then you will no longer be under the family plan
If you don't have a data plan then yes they charge 1 cent per kilobyte which can be A LOT. If you use internet then you add a data plan which is an extra $30 on your monthly bill.
no you can use your mobile carrier. wifi is a lot quicker than mobile and a lot cheaper however you will only find wifi in "hotspots" which generally have a range 50 meters. if you use your mobile carrier you'll me able to use the internet where ever your phone but it can be quite slow and expensive.
Through Sprint the 8530 is awesome. 2.5 inch screen plus optical track pad. But This tour I think has better screen resolution and world capabilites..not to mention the cool design with chrome. Both are badass.
@Tyrant604 Not to be like BekBud1, he lives in the U.S because he lives in Oakland. The reason why its using a SIM-Card is because it makes the Tour run on Verizon. You can take off the SIM-Card and it will still run on Verizon.
The Tour 2 has 2gb of on board memory, compared to the 256mb of the Bold 9700. Also, the tour 2 will be a world phone. When it comes down to carriers, the Tour 2 is only on Verizon/Sprint, so you can't get the Bold 9700 on the Verizon network, which is the best network.
My job requires me to have a blackberry because of their enterprise. So I got the bb storm thinking it will be the closes to my iphone. After having it for 3 weeks I hated the response on the touch screen.I took it back for a BlackBerry Tour, now after having the Tour for 2 weeks the trackball does not response as well as it did the first few days. When you turn the ball up and down there is no problems but when you turn the ball side to side it takes for ever to move.
well i got a tour and i had mine for a lil while (mine is from sprint) and mine workd fine...i think they fixed the trackball problem...now im waiting for the essex to come out...with the trackpad and wifi
No, unfortunately all Blackberry and newer model PDAs MUST have the additional fee. This was created to avoid data charges, many customers went on the internet "by mistake" and got charged thousands of dollars. So now it's a flat fee.
most awesome blackberry ever, if they had it on tmobile, i would definitely buy it. currently im having difficulty choosing my next phone, and sidekick lx 2009 and curve 8900 are my top two choices, but i have a lot of time before the upgrade, so maybe something worthy will come out by that time
I bought this a few days ago ! I love it . Mines is sprint . I just hate how it looks when it turns on . Lol . & the default wall paper is boring , But the phone is FANTASTIC ! Best Ive ever had !
No Wi-Fi, but there's a Blackberry device being released (hopefully soon) called the Blackberry Atlas that is the exact same thing as this, only with Wi-Fi.
I tried out the Tour at Verizon. I had a lot of trouble typing on the keyboard. It may just be me, but I had problems. I am a biased iphone user, however I was an 8 year Verizon customer. Doing instant messaging was ok, but I definitely miss the auto correct feature that I have on my iphone and also it was very difficult for me not having a touch screen. Overall I did like the phone, but it seemed a few steps behind the iphone's incredible interface. I do miss Verizon's awesome network though.
1) Leaked 9650's in final development stages all DO have 2gb on board memory. 2) Since 9,650 is less than 9,700, does not mean Bold 9700 is a better phone, just a different model number. 3) Contrary to what you New Yorkers mar think, there are OTHER people in the country, outside of a cities, which is where Verizon's dominating agile network takes over.
ay i have a question noah. wat do u do wit these phones after u review it. Do u keep it for ur personal primary phone or do u sell it to ppl or iono. wat do u do?
the tour and storm have the best internet capabilities out of the blackberry phones =]. I have the tour and it lets me go to any website and it load pretty fast.
is this a good phone? im planning to get it next month for my bday and im not sure if i should get it, does it freeze? does the trackball work well? whats bad about it??
verizon only uses CDMA in the US which means the sim card is useless here in the us it cannot with with the iphone hence the verizon SIM card only works overseas
rebate. basically, you mail in a coupon they give you and you get some amount of money back. so $30 rebate means when you send it in, they send you $30.
that wasn't a boot up. the new blackberries turn on faster because there not fully powered off. my bold turns on in like 3 seconds. but when it "boots-up" it takes like 1 minute
well i sat that this phone would be better than the storm because a lot people have been turning in the storm because of some issues or some thing but yeah like i said before the tour is better than the storm i recommend the tour
however i think Blackberry Bold 9000 is the best BB phone ever made thus far. Its the only phone that i think doesnt have a text like 'bold' or 'curve' at the back of the phone.
You have always done good reviews... But this time I wish you would have checked out how the web browser worked. I have the enV touch and I hate it. I am deff. buying this blackberry!!!
i think i am gonna get this for sure. i want a smartphone that will keep track of my schedule and be a great messaging phone on verizon. so it is a win-win. plus it't got wifi which really helps out alot. what's not to love?
I have the 8900..and i love it (tmobile) but what i like about this tour is that it has the keypad is like the the bold and the bold has a awesome keypad..i would so go to verzion for this but their data plans are killer
The Tour is better than the Bold by virtue of the fact that it is on Verizon. The keyboard has also been stated to be the best Blackberry keyboard ever.
@theClaudia180 Definitely the Tour, sure, you do have Wi-Fi and the Curve, but you have better battery life on the Tour and a better resolution on it. The Tour has flash and a better camera resolution. So, I would say the Tour.
If you get used to an iPhone it's very hard to go for any bberry . Too bad att sucks balls in NYC area , but not enough to make me switch to a bberry . I played with it for an hour or so and I found it way too complicated . iPhone on Verizon would be the end all be all .
i have the env touch and idk like the touch is pretty good but if ur some one who likes the whole key board 2 type the touch takes time for u 2 switch to that on the touch face
What don't you understand? Not everyone wants a touch screen phone. I don't understand why some people want everyone to have the same type of phone. Everyone I know has different types of phones. I like that we're all not the same.
i would go for the BB. I had the env touch and didnt like it all that well. The battery life was horrible. And the touch screen was for me. I actually took the touch back and got a alias 2 and i like it better.
"There's something about it that just kinda says, Verizon" lol. It's the colors. Verizons logo colors are black and red. So are the Tours. :) BTW, I'm dying for this phone :(
ive had this phone for almost a year now... i loveee it. never had really problems with it. best phone i have had so far.
I just received this phone about 2 weeks ago, works GREAT! I previously had the Blackberry Storm which had a 8G card, the Bold had a 2G car, so I just switched cards, which helped bring all my pics and videos to my new phone.
they dont. you dont need the sim card if u are using it in north america but if you go outside the US you are able to use GSM via the sim card...
how much is it full price if your going to break your 2 year conract?
Blackberry is where you want to go, BUT, the Tour 2 9650 (codenamed: Essex) will be coming out shortly (rumored within the next month or two). When this phone releases, it's going to be the strongest Blackberry on the market. If you're going to buy any phone soon, make it the Tour 2. i have one and i havent had one freeze and its like 3 weeks old, the trackball is really smooth.
I purchased my BB tour after watching your review and I wanted to thank you! I love my phone. Keep up the good work! THANKS!
Beautiful phone. Still keep my 9780 as a back up
Really, this phone is terrific. i have had it for about a month. The battery life is a beast! it's great. the non wifi isn't that much of a problem. The web browser is pretty good. love the way it feels in the hand and i haven't had a single problem with the trackball. The keyboard is great. Overall an excellent BB. recomend to anyone.
yes they do i have had blackberrys since 2006 and they do have threaded.
if you get a blackberry you could keep the same plan as long as you subscribe to a data plan which can cost 15-20 extra depending on which state your in but if you change your plan it would be a total of 50 including data and voice plan but then you will no longer be under the family plan

This phone is amazing, i just ordered mines from sprint yesterday...keep up the good work noah!
@Tyrant604 Not to be like BekBud1, he lives in the U.S because he lives in Oakland. The reason why its using a SIM-Card is because it makes the Tour run on Verizon. You can take off the SIM-Card and it will still run on Verizon.
Totally awesome Noah! I would like more details on your impression of the key board.
"Very dramatic there!" hahaha
that made my day!
I love you Noah! =P
No, you have to switch to Verizon, even though Verizon bought Alltel. Verizon bought Alltel, but they are still treating them as a separate network.
My job requires me to have a blackberry because of their enterprise. So I got the bb storm thinking it will be the closes to my iphone. Yes it does i have my iphone right here. it has a sim ejector tool when you get it too look it up.
The Tour uses CDMA plus has GSM which uses a SIM card for Global use.
The Tour 2 is about to hit the market... Trackpad instead of ball, wifi and better cpu. Going to be a great phone.
oh well i got mine like 2 weeks ago and i have to say, i love this thing! DEFINATELY recomend this!!
No, unfortunately all Blackberry and newer model PDAs MUST have the additional fee. This was created to avoid data charges, many customers went on the internet "by mistake" and got charged thousands of dollars. So now it's a flat fee.

the backlight can turn off at any amount of time you set it to. i have mine at like 2 seconds.
No Wi-Fi, but there's a Blackberry device being released (hopefully soon) called the Blackberry Atlas that is the exact same thing as this, only with Wi-Fi.
we are moving into a generation where we will have wifi available throughout a wider area
I tried out the Tour at Verizon. I had a lot of trouble typing on the keyboard. It may just be me, but I had problems. I am a biased iphone user, however I was an 8 year Verizon customer. Is this phone a good camera phone?
All of the new BlackBerrys have super-fast boot-up times.
No, it wouldn't but I'm pretty sure that AT&T has their own version of this.
And here we are.... in 2022 !! ✌🏼
the tour and storm have the best internet capabilities out of the blackberry phones =]. I have the tour and it lets me go to any website and it load pretty fast.
is this a good phone? im planning to get it next month for my bday and im not sure if i should get it, does it freeze? does the trackball work well? whats bad about it??
Is this better than the pre??
I don't have Verizon, but I'm guessing they have a 30 day return policy, as well as a restocking fee, usually like 20 bucks.
Is it a smart phone?
I personally like the keyboard better on this one but I'm with you dude
verizon only uses CDMA in the US which means the sim card is useless here in the us it cannot with with the iphone hence the verizon SIM card only works overseas
rebate. basically, you mail in a coupon they give you and you get some amount of money back. so $30 rebate means when you send it in, they send you $30.
wat fone is better?
EnV Touch or Black Berry Tour
i Want this Phone!
but is it worth it?
how is it powerful?
Interesting, it's like a Storm mixed with a Bold and a Curve.
lets say that you have a verizon sim card in a phone is it possible for you to put that sim card in another verizon phone without termination fee
Yea i went to verizon today and tested it...the keys are hard to type kind of but the screen looks nice...
that wasn't a boot up.
the new blackberries turn on faster because there not fully powered off.
my bold turns on in like 3 seconds. but when it "boots-up" it takes like 1 minute
on of the best blackberrys ever
well i sat that this phone would be better than the storm because a lot people have been turning in the storm because of some issues or some thing but yeah like i said before the tour is better than the storm i recommend the tour
Ahhh OK thank you DarkEnzanArikado &
trrippyy :)
I couldn't work out why the quality was so poor.
AT&T already has this phone in most parts of the country.
however i think Blackberry Bold 9000 is the best BB phone ever made thus far. Its the only phone that i think doesnt have a text like 'bold' or 'curve' at the back of the phone.
wow to actually come back a decade later and read the comments ...
yeah me too its a solid blackberry the best yet
The colors perhaps remind you of Verizon? Some of their smartphones of gray/black/red.
To answer your question... Yes. All BlackBerry owners on Verizon MUST have a data plan.
Is this better then the BB Storm Or should i stick with the storm >? Please Reply
They don't, but some phones are WORLD phones. Meaning it is CDMA and GSM, so it can use a sim card. AS HE SAID
@cory8u you have to unblock it first or complete the contract you get with verison that its like 2 years
well i mean.... they are two different blackberrys?
just cus the model number is bigger doesnt necessarily mean its alot better
You have always done good reviews... But this time I wish you would have checked out how the web browser worked. I have the enV touch and I hate it. I am deff. buying this blackberry!!!
i think i am gonna get this for sure. i want a smartphone that will keep track of my schedule and be a great messaging phone on verizon. so it is a win-win. plus it't got wifi which really helps out alot. what's not to love?
I have the 8900..and i love it (tmobile) but what i like about this tour is that it has the keypad is like the the bold and the bold has a awesome keypad..i would so go to verzion for this but their data plans are killer
for me, its between this one, and the new droid. IDK which to choose
i heard the 3gs overheats like the 360 use to so if you want touch screen go iphone but you have to 100 dollars a month so i would go with the tour
Yes, in the form of MMS and E-Mail.
if u have verizon already its around 150 bucks. I'd say its a nicely priced phone
is this better then the black berry bold??? please answer
The Tour is better than the Bold by virtue of the fact that it is on Verizon.
The keyboard has also been stated to be the best Blackberry keyboard ever.
I'm just glad I kept my iphone 3gs for my personal use.
Such a good phone! I'm impressed with the querty keyboard so much, its fantastic! however... I wish the trackball was clear :)
I lol'd @ "The quick black blackberry jumped over all of the other smartphoned"
EnV touch because it has better features and is also not as complicated so i would go with that.
it looks the same as the bold or is it different?
I'd buy the tour because it has 3G. It's really a pick between the tour's 3g and the curve's wifi and for me I'd rather have 3g in a phone.
@theClaudia180 Definitely the Tour, sure, you do have Wi-Fi and the Curve, but you have better battery life on the Tour and a better resolution on it. The Tour has flash and a better camera resolution. So, I would say the Tour.
hey if this phone has a sim card could u take it out and put it in an iphone and have a verizon iphone?????
same should i get a tour or droid?
To this day it is a great phone.
not to showboat but im getting one free in the mail tomorrow! any recomendations on apps?
You have exactly 30 days to return your phone. There MAY be a restocking fee of $25.
blackberry tour, blackberry curve, blackberry 8330, or blackberry pearl what should i get idk
If you get used to an iPhone it's very hard to go for any bberry . Too bad att sucks balls in NYC area , but not enough to make me switch to a bberry . I played with it for an hour or so and I found it way too complicated . iPhone on Verizon would be the end all be all .
i have the env touch and idk like the touch is pretty good but if ur some one who likes the whole key board 2 type the touch takes time for u 2 switch to that on the touch face
i have this phone and im telling u its awsome. the only reasone i sneek out f class is 2 go online on the tour. AWSOME PHONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The good old days
What don't you understand? Not everyone wants a touch screen phone. I don't understand why some people want everyone to have the same type of phone. Everyone I know has different types of phones. I like that we're all not the same.
it looks like a mix between a curve, storm and blod
i would go for the BB. I had the env touch and didnt like it all that well. The battery life was horrible. And the touch screen was for me. I actually took the touch back and got a alias 2 and i like it better.
@towerguarder Well thats too bad because I dont think so. Do the 9780 have a non camera version?
"There's something about it that just kinda says, Verizon"
lol. It's the colors. Verizons logo colors are black and red. So are the Tours. :)
BTW, I'm dying for this phone :(
The black look makes it look Verizon.
@sookster54 the bold 9650 was just released for verizon that is the tour 2
