I envy you long term CPAP users. I did a CPAP test and got 45 minutes total sleep with it over more than a month of testing 5 years ago. The severe sleep apnea gave me AFib. Tonight I take this test to be able to get a simple canula attached to an oxygen maker to help a little bit. How I wish the CPAP had worked for me.

@@NeerajSharma-pw1zu Not everyone can tolerate CPAP and some sleep disorders won't resolve with CPAP. Two other alternatives are APAP and BiPAP, Adaptive Servo Ventilation, as well as oral and nasal appliances. It really depends on the individual and their particular situation.

@@jennbrown1163I used a CPAP machine for almost 15. All of a sudden the masks started breaking my face out. Tried different styles, even nose pillows. I finally had to give it up after a needed dermatologist visit. It's a miracle I never croaked in my sleep. Years later I'm testing for Inspire now. Hopefully I'll have success with this kit. Has to be more comfortable than the old fashioned CPAP with hose attached to the face. 😊

I had the old school test some 15 years ago, got diagnosed with sleep apnea, but could not tolerate the CPAP dash dash masks don't fit the peculiar configurations of my facial bones and all that happens is that cold, dry , air blows in my eyes and keeps me half-awake (and uncomfortable, natch) all night. The alternative is a mouthguard which protects both against sleep apnea and teeth grinding, but it feels so gross and horrible in my mouth, and is so covered with gross saliva by morning, that I find it utterly revolting and thus have never been able to develop the habit of wearing it. It has sat in my medicine chest probably 9,997 of the last 10,000 nights. This for $1,500 a pop, twice now. I'd really rather just develop AFib and die.

The belt is hinged. As you breathe in and out, your chest expanding and contracting causes the hinge to move. This is the way the system keeps track of your respiratory rate.

I just tried this last night and it was horribly uncomfortable and I couldn’t fall asleep or stay asleep. I was told to place the belt very tightly around my upper waist and it pinched me the whole night. Ive had back spasms all day today in the spot where it was digging into me. And the respiratory effort light blinked red the entire night. The sleep tech told me not to worry about it. Considering that I couldn’t even sleep, I doubt they’ll even find anything wrong with me. Definitely not what I thought it was going to be.

This was a good instructional video. My light turned red n all I had to do was place the finger monitor thing back on the strap. I tested it a couple times n that was it. Don't let the clipped finger monitor fall off the strap that's around your chest. It takes a few seconds for it to turn green. It's not uncomfortable if you do it right. I actually fell asleep tho I'm up now too early as usual. I hope they find something explaining what I'm going through, I woke up to the sound of a fire alarm n it didn't even go off :/ it's my brain telling me to wake up n breathe. I've had dreams of going under water to swim ie holding your breath ie NOT breathing. It's the dream that made me realize what was goin on. Ask your sleep clinic if they test the unit before they give it to you. I got all hooked up for a test last night, only to have a flashing red warning light appear when I powered on the unit. A loose connection, according to the instructions, would be responsible for a red light. Yet the connection seemed solid and ten minutes of fussing failed to make any difference. I'm fairly mechanically inclined and I had no idea what could be wrong with it. I didn't want to break the unit so I turned the device off, which promptly ended the test. No restart possible, although that wouldn't have made a difference since I couldn't fix the problem. When I returned the device the next morning the tech said the connection appeared secure and could not understand why the light was staying on and failing to allow the test. I'll have to reschedule. A complete waste of time.

I my case this device is expensive to use (around $250 with $25 a day late fees) and a waste of time at the cost of a good night's sleep. I have been using a CPAP machine for over 15 years and my wife will tell any doctor, or sleep study firm, that when I do not use it, I snore loudly and stop breathing all night long. All this device will tell your doctor is you need to have a formal sleep study done. That study determines what CPAP pressure settings are necessary for you home CPAP machine and costs even more money.

Yeah, I imagine this is just a bare basic test to show if you have episodes where you stop breathing. If yes, THEN they will send you to a REAL sleep study. They dont just take peoples word for it. Even if youve had apnea for years. The REAL sleep study is way more complicated and sophisticated and has to be done by a professional sleep expert. It is also wayy more expensive than this. The real sleep study also picks up other sleep disorders, such as periodic limb movement disorder. So, if this thing shows that you have sleep apnea, youre not done. Next step is a real sleep study at a clinic. They dont take you seriously for a real study until you do this one first.

As shown at 2:20 in the video, when the device is turned on, you may see the lights blink red and then illuminate green. If any light continues to blink red or starts to blink red while she's asleep, check that the accessory corresponding to the light is properly placed and connected. Once properly reconnected, it should switch to green after a few seconds. If the light continues to blink red OR if the Test Complete light is red at the end of the night, please bring the equipment back to the sleep clinic for further assistance.

This machine would not maintain a stable connections and green light for the effort sensor. After NUMEROUS attempts to recheck every connection and shift the position of it, the effort sensor light would not stay green. I finally gave up, took the thing off and put it back in the bag. I’ll be returning it to the doctor’s office and letting them know they need more reliable equipment. I’m done spending my night trying to make it work. It is such an aggravating, uncomfortable, and unsuccessful test. These attempts to cut corners and cut costs do not lead to improved diagnostics and care.

      Hi Rita,
Sorry to hear about the issues you're experiencing. Test frequency is at your doctor’s discretion. Most doctors and insurance will ask for a new test to see if the same prescription applies or if it needs to be adjusted.
This process is similar to an eye exam. We have yearly check-ups/exams to see if vision has gotten worse and make sure eyeglasses stay up-to-date with prescription needs; CPAP therapy is similar, though may take longer to change.
      Thank you,

And then the insurance company says I have to take this in order to simply get a new machine. This is even the exact same Ins Co (United) that paid for 2 full-on sleep tests, and bought my previous CPAP in 2010. I'm even at the same JOB, it's the same insurance. And somehow ... NO accommodations for my need for a mask are made, I just paid $200 to rent this piddly machine and am expected to sleep all night, running a test on it, w/o my mask? Well, I didn't sleep and I am freaking furious. There NEEDS to be a version of this testing system for people who need to wear a mask at night, period!!!! Or Ins. Companies need to SKIP IT and send people to the in-office study straight away, because this is a wildly frustrating, expensive, and unnecessary step.

Hello, I recently had a sleep study using the ResMed ApneaLink Air Type III. I have been told I frequently talk in my sleep (somniloquy). Is it possible that some of the events classified as snores could actually be me talking in my sleep?

Hi Samantha, thank you for reaching out. Regarding your question about whether the events recorded as snores during your sleep study might actually be instances of you talking in your sleep (somniloquy), we recommend discussing this with your doctor. They are best equipped and qualified to provide an accurate assessment and address any clinical questions or concerns you may have about your sleep health.

The ApneaLink Air records patient respiratory nasal airflow, snoring, blood oxygen saturation, pulse, and respiratory effort during sleep to help doctors diagnose obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). My experience sucked mainly due to technician failing to explain that the hookups can come loose in the night. He also didn’t explain that if a green light turned flashing red that it meant a disconnection has occurred. It wasn’t recording for several hours. How is a person supposed to know about an unexpected and unexplained problem of an unknown device at 2:30 in the morning? I’m pissed. Also the body temperature monitor came up clipped from the belt. Last thing I would have expected because it felt really secure. Then this morning went to shut it off and it just went dead. Couldn’t push the button 2 times like they said because it was already dead. The oxygen monitor on my right hand index finger is so disturbing my sleep. I had to put it on my left hand ring finger.

    • @ResMed
      @ResMed  Год назад

We have found the best results can be achieved by sleeping on your back as the key components to the test are the cannula sitting under the nose (to ensure that the airway remains unobstructed) and the effort sensor belt around the chest that detects effort to breathe. However, you should be fine sleeping on your side or stomach, if that is what you prefer. You can simply rotate the belt so the device is at your side or back. It just needs to be able to monitor your breathing.

After going through the home sleep study, I wish I would have put it on my non-dominant hand. The exterior was rubbery , so it kept catching on the material when I tried to move or adjust my blankets. If it had a smooth exterior, it wouldn't have stuck to the fabric.. or if I had put it on the finger of the other hand, it would have been less bothersome. But I already had the line taped on my other hand, and in my sleep-tossed frame of mind, it would have been more difficult to switch it.
