- I share thoughts on the Criterion Collection 4K edition of Mathieu Kassovitz’s 1995 film La Haine. This look at life in modern Parisian suburbs for poor marginalized people groups is something to see for sure and is eye opening. This new 4K is an upgrade of spine 381 in the collection. Let me know your thoughts in the comments. Enjoy!

La Haine is a masterpiece so glad you enyoyed it 😊
Thank you! Yes, glad to finally experience this title and glad I waited for the 4K.
Amazing review James just asking if you’re going to review werckmeister harmonies?
Hello, Jason! Werckmeister Harmonies is an intriguing title. Depending on when I pick it up (likely the July sale) will determine when I could review it.
Great vid man
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it.
Great review James. Glad you finally discovered this great film. I have a personal choice where I don’t upgrade Blu-ray’s to 4ks if I own the movie already but man this does look stunning in 4K! Might be time to sell the Blu-ray! 🤣
Glad you enjoyed this review, F V!
I'm intrigued! I've known about this movie for a long time but never checked it out. Unfortunately I have to sell blu rays to buy more these days and I'm having a hard time figuring out the best way to use the money I get. I know Shawscope Vol. 3 is coming out later this year so I may have to set aside my money for that. Have you checked out any of the Shaw Brothers sets yet?
Hello, Hunter! I have not yet checked out the Shaw Brothers sets but I know they are popular and loved by a good number of folks. Will need to take a look at those at some point.
La Haine is definitely worth checking out. Hope you enjoy it when you get a chance to.
Glad you enjoyed this film it’s a bit of a groundbreaker from a young director at that time the standout was Vincent Cassel as Vinz it highlighted issues of French banlieues and it’s a shame in light of recent events in Paris they couldn’t go back and speak to the creatives in todays era. I have the BFI edition and that original bluray. But I’ve still bought the 4k because of that camerawork. There are actually colour sequences but thankfully Matthieu chose the monochrome palette.
Steve, yes, it was a terrific decision on the part of Kassovitz to go with the black and white look for this film. Gives it a timeless appeal. So glad to have this on 4K!
Saw the 4k last night it’s even more impressive looking than the bluray
Great Film. I only regret buying this on blu ray. I have to get the 4K now.
Glad I finally discovered this one, Travelin Man!
The H is silent.
Ah, yes. Thank you!
