You know, what were the other characters doing while Emil was fighting Lloyd and Marta? Did they just pull out lawn chairs and start munching on popcorn?
I realize this reply comes a bit late but to answer your question: No, I´m not new to the Tales of series. I´m talking about a video Omega made a while back, 2008(?), when this game was on the Wii, not the PS3 bundle. :)
I saw the duo of games for PS3 at a yard sale, and to be honest, I only got it since it was $4. I started the game just yesterday, and I'm hooked. I don't care much about the story (which is why I'm here watching this video), but I'm sure I'll regret watching this later on. I also didn't know this was originally for the Wii xD
i really liked the cahracter design of emil. that blue and black with that blonde hair is rare nowadays. heck, the only reason i remember dawn of the new world is because of emil character design.
I liked this game, and I found it satisfying and bittersweet when you fucking destroy Decus and Alice. I hated that battle, I fucking hated Alice. I really felt though this game suffered from being rushed but for what it is, I really liked the story and characters especially Tenebrae.
People were expecting too much when they saw it was connected to Symphonia. Thing is, the game was made by the B Team and it's an escort title. It was in production at the same time as Vesperia, which being a mothership title, held much bigger priority. I do agree though that the game isn't as bad as some seem to think it is. I'd still play any of the mothership titles like Symphonia 1, Xillia or Abyss over this game though. But Dawn is a good game on it's own.
7:50 That's some nice acting Emil In all honesty that makes sense He was probably on the edge when he did that and when he was tackled so weakly like that, He used that an excused to let go
It took time, but after a ridic- ER fierce fight, Emil was able to face the power that was controling him, and he got rid of it. He was no longer, a Robotosk Knight.
While Dawn of the New World was my introduction to the Tales series while looking back at it now. I can agree that some parts of the game is flawed I won't say it's a bad game nor a good one but it's an average game at best. I'm glad it introduced me to the Tales series as I felt it was a good starting point in terms of gameplay mechanically for newcomers to the franchise. Especially in my case since I didn't play and beat the original until recently as in 2 weeks ago and I played Dawn of the New World when I was in Middle School being 8 years sgo. I still like Dawn of the New World. That's my two cents on the whole reception of Symphonia ' s sequel.
I may be the only one who liked the way Emil handled this and i actually like emil as a charachter. Those whining about his personality should check tales of innocence's Ruca.
They're both paired together very often, since they're both passive, pacifist, whiny bitches, with arcane beings whom share their body, that are force-fed the concepts of self-esteem and courage by their respective journeys that neither of them wanted to take.
CenturyBlade Emil is far from being whiny. Luke is arguably the whiner of the series. Emil just lacks confidence, but we also need to remember this is lord ratatosk who is slowly gathering his memories back.
@CenturyBlade @Ultraman619 Also just to add on Emil was abused by his (Or not really his) Aunt, Uncle and entire town for basically existing. So of course he's has like zero self esteem and hates confrontation.
22:53 'Did Emil also returned to what he was meant to be?' How the fuck did this get past anyone. The idea that someone must've proof-read the script even once and said 'Yep, it's alright' and that even the voice actors read it and didn't say anything is fucking ridiculous.
I also love how they missed the sound glitch where he says "Now all of you need to go, ---" twice, and the fact that some of the subtitles don't even properly sync up to the VA speaking.
It's probably for the best that Omega didn't do a full playthrough. I was totally planning on doing a Drinking game and ~the line that must not be said~ would have killed most people in the first damn chapter.
I just had to giggle a little at Emil's robot helmet. Anyway, I remember how broken this game was. Once you get Echo Tracer for Emil and all three Speed Cast skills for Marta, you probably don't even need anything else (you don't even need to get Nethor Traitor, but just for max giggles, I kept Marta's first weapon and used it during an entire playthrough).
The irony: At the beginning of the game, Emil pushes Richter away to save Marta. At the end of the game, Richter pushes Emil away to save Marta. (and i think they push each other in the same way lol)
Odds are its Yggdrasil, both for the mythology thing, and because Tales of Phantasia uses Yggdrasil as the name of the world tree, and both Symphonia and Phantasia take place in the same setting (thousands of years apart, mind you)
AdellRedwinters Thanks! I really appreciate it! I haven't played Tales of Phantasia yet, I'm still kinda new to the Tales series. I started with Tales of the Abyss (for the 3DS) because it was from when I was a kid and we didn't have a lot of games. I'm making up for lost time. I moved onto Tales of Symphonia (part 1 & 2) and I just finished Tales of Xilla, and I'm about to play part 2. And theeeeeeen, Tales of Graces F.
Phantasia is gonna feel a LOT different from the others as it was the first in the series, but it is cool to play to see how far they've refined the battle system since then. I was never a huge fan of Graces F's story but man that battle system is just fantastic, totally makes the game worth a playthrough.

The best part of this game is the fact you can get a sword dancer as an ally. Pity this game had to revolve around the two least interesting characters in it. Also, I loved the infinite combo in Vesperia because of Yuri's free flowing between a multitude of artes and his unique style of fighting. In this game, it looks jerky and unnatural. I found that the "HD" Version is based off the PAL version of the original game seeing as you can get little headdress things for Emile and Marta.
I always cry at the end of a tales game. I'm such a sap. BUT....do we ever find out what the damn tree was named?!
