According to Procreate's website, FacePaint is available on the following supported devices:
- iPad Pro 12.9" 2018 and 2020
- iPad Pro 11” 2018 and 2020
- iPad Air 3 and 4 or mini 5 running iPadOS 14
- iPad 8th gen running iPadOS 14
Not sure if your iPad can support FacePaint? Check if you have Face ID (if you can unlock your iPad with your face)

Procreate released some pretty important info since I filmed this video... *It turns out that Face Paint is only compatible with certain iPads because of hardware requirements:*
- iPad Pro 12.9" 2018 and 2020
- iPad Pro 11” 2018 and 2020
- iPad Air 3 and 4 or mini 5 running iPadOS 14
- iPad 8th gen running iPadOS 14
*A good way to know if your iPad can support Face Paint is to check if you have Face ID (if you can unlock your iPad with your face)*
*If your iPad does have FaceID but you don't see the Face option in the reference panel, make sure:*
1. You have the latest version of Procreate 5x
2. Your camera is activated for Procreate (look for 'Procreate' in your iPad settings, then allow 'camera')

My camera is in and I also have the Ipad pro 2018 12.9’ but it still doesn’t work :(
When do you encounter an issue? Are you able to open the reference panel at all? :)

I think that this is really unfair.. i have the iPad mini 2019 and ist doesnt Support the Face thing.
Yeah because like always if you want the better stuff on apple shit you gotta pay 1000 bucks for like 5 dif options im done at this point tbh this is so unfair im mad they dont make procreate on samsung samsung is so much better i aint buying jackshit from apple again.

It should use camera, not Face ID.

For anyone wondering you go into the little wrench icon and then click on canvas, when you are there look for something that says reference and turn it on, after you turn it on a panel should show up, select face and then it works

I have a brand new 2020 iPad 7th gen and for some reason, it won’t let me do face paint :(
Sadly, I don't think the iPad 7th gen has the hardware requirement to support face paint in Procreate :/
You would need an iPad that has Face ID.
It works with iPad 8th gen. I have it but I’m not sure about 7

this keeps happening to me where i would make it then it would flip with out the starter lines and it was sideways on my face :( i’m really upset about it because i can’t flip it back for some reason. please help me out if this has happened to you i just don’t want to loose my work
where does the video save too, i cant find my recorded video any help please, does it save as a different file extension, thanks
The videos should save to your camera roll, just like a regular video that you would film with the camera app on your iPad :)
Nice video but face painting not compatible with my Ipad air 6 although i can't find any reference to this anywhere. What other new features are not compatible? Anyone know.

No procreate doesn’t use the face if you set up in settings. It justa uses the sensors that come with the TrueDepth/FaceID camera system.
How do you know that you ipad doesnt have the face thing

Hey.how do you save the filter and what to do if we have to post the filter we made on instagram
To save the filter: just keep your Procreate canvas and you'll be able to use it as a filter whenever you want
To post on Instagram: check out how to export Face Paint at 07:08. The photo/video you take using that method will then be in your camera roll :)

You can update to Procreate 5x just like you would update any other app from the app store :)

Hi! If you think your iPad has the required hardware, yet still don't see the facepaint option, there are a couple things you can also check:
1. You have the latest version of Procreate 5x
2. Your camera is activated for Procreate (look for 'Procreate' in your iPad settings, then allow 'camera')

Sadly, you need an iPad model that has facial recognition hardware in order to use Face Paint in Procreate :/
But what would you use it for? ...I can’t think of anything to do with it even though it’s fun...
I guess you would use it for reasons similar to why would use Snapchat filters...
It's for sure not a feature meant to impact the workflow or improve anyone's life in a big way, but I already know I'll personally be using it a lot. Ex: as a children's books illustrator, I can add some of my character's features on my face for a book promo, ok just paint on some fun makeup to catch kids' attention.

How do you but template in?
You can download the template from my website: www.genevievesdesignstudio.com/freebies
Then, just go to your iPad's files (blue folder icon on your home screen) and the file should be in the "Downloads" section. Tap once to unzip, then simply click on the template and it'll load directly into Procreate :)
I have an iPad Pro but the reference isn’t coming up??
To have the reference option in the canva menu, you need to make sure to update to Procreate 5x :)

Here's the info available on Procreate's website:
"FacePaint is only available on iPads that have an A12 chip or higher and a TrueDepth camera. If your iPad doesn’t have these the ‘Face’ button won’t appear on your Reference Companion, and you won’t be able to use FacePaint." :)
Can you export the filter on instagram?
You can export a photo/video, but I don't think there's a way to export the filter itself... but that would be really cool! Let's hope the Procreate team is working on it :)

I think the facial recognition hardware was only added to iPad in 2018.
