It depends on type of bugs; some larger ones might be safe to eat, but smaller ones may have salmonella or e.coli. Even though if you accidentally ate few bugs, they are not harmful if they were dead initially. The thing about good washing your veggies, fruits, herbs etc is that bugs are different, some of them may harm less immune people while some are harmless. But the most important thing about washing your food is not about bugs, there are even more tinier creatures that can actually be dangerous if ingested. So it is better to be safe than sorry

This is incorrect. Here is some information from a USA Today article:
The little creatures in the fruit are known as the spotted wing drosophilas, which lay eggs inside strawberries. They then hatch and crawl out after being washed in the warm saltwater solution.
The invasive fly arrived in the USA in 2008 and eventually spread nationwide.
Sriyanka Lahiri, an assistant professor and strawberry and small-crop entomologist at the University of Florida, told USA TODAY that the creature is mainly attracted to sweet and fermenting fruit, such as strawberries and blueberries.
“They’re so sneaky that they’re the only pest that can be transported to the grocery store,” Lahiri said. She said not every strawberry or blueberry will be affected, nor should people be too concerned about the creature.
She said female spotted wing drosophilas lay eggs inside perfect, ripe and undamaged fruit, “and that’s where you see the problem.”
“This species is able to make a very fine incision that can’t be seen with a naked eye and lays its eggs in there. When the picker gets the fruit, they can’t even see that there’s an egg because it’s deep in the fruit,” Lahiri said.
“That’s why it escapes detection, and it’s not possible to detect that a fruit has been infested,” she said.

Lobster, crab and mud bugs. They're actually kin to the cockroach. But edible.
There's no way to get out 100% of bugs or bug fragments in food.
The FDA allows a certain % of bugs in things like cereals, peanut butter and flour, for instance.
I had bought some organic Spring mix for dinner one day.
I opened the container and right on top was a perfect molted shell from a dragonfly.
    It was so pretty.
    I should have kept it.
Well, I washed the greens and ate them anyway.
Some bugs I don't consider dirty. Ladybugs, dragonflies, bees.
    But cockroaches and flies? Disgusting.
Cockroaches carry a lot of diseases and they have salmonella on their exoskeleton.
    Plus, they can cause asthma.

For example FDA standards allow 30 fruit flies egg per 100 grams or canned veg like spinach allow an average 50 insects such as mites or aphids, Reasoning for this is that you can't control whether or not insects entering veg, only limit the amount to a certain degree and if it surpass the amount recommended the patch get ctrl+delete.
