Greetings from a senior Canadian lady. You know we've all adopted you, so thanks to your inspiration and wonderful notes from my fellow old timers, I am in the process of unpacking my old vinyl. It's a trade off, my friend. You've discovered your old soul and we've rediscovered our young souls. Stay well and groovy. ✌❤
This was written by John Deacon, the bass player. Hence, driven by the bass :) Queen are not simply rock, they are a blend of so many influences, from disco to opera. And all band members wrote songs, so they were truly diverse.
That song is the earliest bit of pop or rock music I remember hearing. I shared a bedroom with a sister 12 years old and when she was a teen, and a huge Queen fan, I was 4-5. I used to ask her to play it again. I was also totally fascinated with the albums covers, especially News of the World. I didn’t hear them much after my stated went to collect, but when I was say in middle school and buying my own music, I was back to them. I love multitrack vocals.
Agreed, the track, "Killer Queen" was their break-out hit that put them on the radar of mainstream audiences. They had many songs before that, but "Killer Queen" took them to another level. And it's wildly different than anything he's reacted to from Queen before. Other must-hear songs: • "Who wants to live forever" A powerful song, well composed. • "Stone Cold Crazy" Covered by everyone, I don't think a person can be called a musician these days unless they've covered this track, lol • "Now I'm Here" This one goes to the producer, spatial audio recorded and mastered in stereo, lol... Impressive. • "Don't stop me now" More amazing Spatial audio, but with more energy. The quintessential "Queen" sound on full display there. If he digs into those five tracks, I think he'll have a pretty well-rounded understanding of the band. Then all the other tracks are going to be easier to appreciate when he understand just how versatile they really were. Fun Fact: Freddy only had a four octave range (which is still really good, many professional vocalists are in the 3s). But he is nowhere near the top in terms of range. He had amazing pitch control, but mostly, he just gave every performance his all. There's not one syllable in any of their songs where he isn't pouring everything he had into it. It was that intensity above all else that set him apart from other vocalists.
I absolutely loved your reaction to this iconic song ……. I do wish that you would have reacted to the live performance….. most Queen songs are better live than the studio versions. They have a huge catalog of almost 300 songs with 20 years of hits….I am sure that you will recognize more than you think. Now you must react to “Somebody to Love” live in Montreal 1981……. Thank you for reacting to Queen music…..I just subscribed and am looking forward to your next reaction
For another classic from Queen AND David Bowie with a funky AF bassline check out Under Pressure. Two God tier legends together on one track, it has to be heard.
Queen are whatever genre they feel like. An album will have a metal song followed by a swing song followed by a pop hit followed by a power ballad followed by a folksy hippie song followed by a dance club song.
"Don't Stop Me Now" is an amazingly great song that's often overlooked.......Also "Who Wants To Live Forever?" will break your heart in the BEST way possible. Oh, and it wasn't the club, it was the local roller skating rink where this song reigned supreme!!!!!

"Who Wants to Live Forever" is right up there with Bohemian Rhapsody, in my opinion. Brian May sings the opening in the song. The video with the orchestra is phenomenal. It's so beautiful, and it from The Highlander original movie,Queen, did the soundtrack for it. That beautiful movie is a must see, too😎
yes, please watch the music video version of 'Who wants to live forever'. It is so spectacular: Brian's opening; Freddie's entrance down the stairs; the orchestra. The whole tone and atmosphere gives me goosebumps and makes me tear up.
@dm9241 Me too,I just listened to it today. My mom loved it so much, she passed away this year. It's going to be on my funeral song list. Lol,that sounded kinda morbid.
Queen defied genre - you name it, they did it. So yes, glam rock, music hall, disco, hard rock, rockabilly, power ballads, they did it all. They didn’t get trapped in any one genre, did what they liked.
We Will Rock You is played during games in American stadiums ALL the time. The crowd sings and stomps so hard the whole stadium vibrates. You can feel it through the floor. Is it the same the UK?
Young grasshopper...that was their #1 best selling song of all time. Freddie did not like the song. It took Michael Jackson to convince him to record it. John Deacon came up with the song, Freddie added the lyrics later. Rodger hated the song also. Who was to know that would be their biggest hit of all time? Michael Jackson did. The rest we shall say...is history.😎
Man, this band was incredible 🔥 bursting with talent and Freddie Mercury was just born to sing. Watch Save Me and Somebody To Love from the 1981 live in Montreal concert if you want to hear more - Freddie's flawless vocals on both are mind-blowing. A huge talent and a born entertainer, there's never been anybody like him since 👑
You have not even scratched the surface of Queen, they surpassed genres , from theatrical operatic dramas, to love songs, yes diso in their own way, and pure rock . It's all there when you fall down the rabbit hole of Queen and with Freddie at the helm they are all riveting. The greatest hutsis a triple album ad then there's more😂
Dude, in terms of genre, Queen is everything and nothing. They have written and performed music in so many genres that they really cannot be classified.
I was at Queen's Christmas Eve concert in Dec 22, 1977 at the Fabulous Forum in LA, they blew the roof off the place, then at the end people dressed as Christmas trees, elves, and even Santa danced around the stage. I'm so lucky to have been there..
Yes, do some Weird Al, but remember, another one rides the bus was his first song, so it is not like everything else he does. Eat it, Fat, like a Surgen, Smells like Nirvana, Armish Paradise, Trapped in the Drive Tru, White and Nerdy, and The Saga Behins. His musical paradise and music videos are legendary. A pure genius.
Oh and more small talk, a lot of old songs were short in length due to being pressed on small records. Plus airtime restrictions etc on mainly pirate radio. I used to into Woolworths and they had little listening booths, with headphones where you could listen before you buy. Except as kids we just listened. Plus we had dial a disk from public phone boxes. Those were the days lol
@gusrose62 YES! I can hear the roar, feel their drive every Sunday. GO LIONS! Best football season ever. The best sports in town, the tefecta, LIONS, TIGERS & WINGS.
That section in the middle is what most call "A break down". The 70s (and 1980, like here) utilized many types of sound effects and opera techniques to add depth and transition in a fairly simple hook.
Rock fans thought Queen sold out when they put out Disco but Freddie fans went anywhere he went. This played in every roller skating rink in 80s. You want to go through his whole catalog. Dude wrote and sang a song to his cat, Delilah, the love of his life. He sang with an Opera singer. Worth going down the Freddie 🕳️
I loved your reaction to this one! I remember when I first heard this I really sat up! I had never heard a Queen song like this. It's so totally different than most of what I had heard before. And I instantly fell in love with it! But your reaction was so enjoyable! So thank you so much for reacting to this great Queen song. ❤️❤️
Another great song that’s live from Montreal is Somebody To Love. Queen is one of the bands I never got to see live, regrettably. Absolutely love Freddie’s vocals and then you have Brian May mad electric guitar, Roger Taylor’s voice on backup just perfection, can’t forget John Deacon’s bass awesome.
Queen was one of those bands that kept reinventing themselves with every album. Check out "7 Seas of Rhye" as a great example of their earlier, more rock sound.
Freddie’s vocal range was a full 3 octaves. He refused to have his teeth straightened when it was suggested because he was afraid any change to the shape of his mouth would affairs singing.

Queen "Another One Bites The Dust" Another great Performance! We Will Rock You Documentary 1984 from Queen Montreal 1981. 😊✌️GARY ☮️ Great Reaction👍 remember seeing this on the large video screen at Studio one Disco Los Angeles 1983😅

You will really enjoy Don't Stop Me Now. I always say there's 2 kinds of Queen fans. Those that know they are and those that DON'T realize it. Their music is EVERYWHERE in pop culture. Movies, TV, commercials, social media. You know more of their music than you think
You've got one banger song after another these days and you're doing that pausing and repeating perfectly. Do not doubt yourself. You've got the Rock Power of approval.
“What is going on???” Queen is going on. They unashamedly did what they wanted wherever they were in their musical adventure and we followed along. RIP Freddie - gone 33 years this Sunday and still so missed.
We Will Rock You! It was the anthem at my high school back in the '70's. (That and We Are The Champions.) It's a wonder we tear down the grandstand with all the foot stomping and dancing. They have so many great ones, but that one is a sentimental favorite for me.
And another thing...Freddie wrote the song Crazy Little Thing Called Love a tribute to Elvis Presley. It took him 10 minutes and it was written in his bathroom. And he plays the guitar to the song. You saw that on Live Aid.
You recently said you like seeing bands in the studio recording their songs - check out Queen One Vision extended version official video. There's also a documentary version where they discuss the lyrics, and Freddie is going through drum patterns with Roger Taylor. 20 minute watch, but worth it!
Queen could and did it all - and did it better than pretty much everyone else. Outstanding musicians, incredible writing. And then there was Freddie. Always Freddie.
John Deacon, the bass player wrote this song so it does feature bass. John is also the one who created most of the sound effects using the bands regular instruments (no synthesizers) and using techniques like playing them backwards, adding distortion and using tape manipulation.
The bass line in this has been sampled hundreds of times in hip hop tracks. Most famously by hip hop pioneers from the early 80’s….Grandmaster Flash. On the track ‘Adventures on the Wheels of Steel’. Iconic Hip Hop track. Got a sample Chic’s ‘Good Times’ in there too.
With QUEEN, you can listen any of they song and they're all unique no song sound like each others. In every song, Freddy brings us in a different universe. From Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
Watching you give reactions to the groups from my teenage years is a blast. Definitely continue down the rabbit hole to listen to more Queen, Carpenters, Iron Maiden, Bread, Terry Jacks, Tony Orlando and Dawn, Joe Cocker, 38 Special, Styx, Bob Dylan, Kansas, Disturbed, Scorpions, Skid Row, and so many more. There are so many different genres out there that you need to sample from my generation. I was born in 1960, and got to grow up to the 60's, 70's, and 80's. I was from that blessed generation that got to see it all. We aren't sandwiched like the Millennials. Boomers are the flower children/acid rock/heavy metal/disco freaks of this world. Welcome aboard the crazy train.
"I've heard this somewhere before..." --- Nope. You've heard this EVERYWHERE before, lol. This tune is everywhere.
We know, right?)) It`s one of the most rememberable and famous tracks for sport arenas.
It would be amazing for even MollyBoy _not_ to have heard this before!
True..
And Weird Al did a funny parody on it a long time ago in the early 80s, “Another One Rides the Bus! “
So true!

Yeah, John wrote this after jamming in the studio with Bernard Edwards and Nile Rodgers from Chic, so that's where the Funk/Disco influence comes from
Queen most versatile band I've ever heard. These guys really appreciated each other's talents.
The only band ever, where each member wrote a song that reached number one
They are "rock" but really genreless.

Do somebody to love from Montreal 1981. Freddie's vocals are unbelievably good.
Also the version of this song from that concert. Freddie in his short shorts is incomparable!
“This sounds like disco!” Welp, this was HUGE at the roller skating rink in middle school-1981-1982. Everyone got on the rink for this. Great times 🛼🎸
How many of us girls had Pom poms on our skates?
And, supposedly the bass line was inspired by Chic’s “Good Times!” So yeah, it has a real disco vibe.

This song will put a smile on your face and a little funk in your walk.
I've been told not to sing this while performing cpr 😂😂
🤣 Brutal💀
What about staying alive by the Beegees? (The office reference)
Ha
@@fgtncic4228 I love that song. "first I was afraid, I was petrified" ❤️😂
😂😂😂
Lol....lol..lol...funnnnny!
Queen could and did it all - and did it better than pretty much everyone else. Outstanding musicians, incredible writing. And then there was Freddie. Always Freddie.
Fun to watch you discover Queen. Keep going there’s almost 200 songs!
Weird Al does a great parody and it's worth a listen -- Another One Rides the Bus
I WANT IT ALL - QUEEN
extended version 🤘
Queen has a number of different sounds, but their songs are always worth listening to.
I didn't appreciate the talent of Freddy Mercury until he had passed away.
I guess we're meant to hear and appreciate music when the time is right.
I'M 70...GREW UP ON ROCK N ROLL!!👍👍🏼👍🏼😎😎
This song was played before each football game at my high school (yes, I'm old)!
John Deacon, the bass player wrote this song so it does feature bass. John is also the one who created most of the sound effects using the bands regular instruments (no synthesizers) and using techniques like playing them backwards, adding distortion and using tape manipulation.
I learned to roller skate to this song! Epic
Listen to Freddie singing Barcelona.....
With QUEEN, you can listen any of they song and they're all unique no song sound like each others. In every song, Freddy brings us in a different universe. From Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
Also from the 1981 Montreal concert, "Dragon Attack"
That whole concert is nonstop energy and talent from the beginning to the end!
Queen is awesome. Tons of great songs
