I'm the tallest fighter at my gym. After watching this video, the shorties couldn't touch me. Most important tip, don't move back in a straight line
Omg never really thought about this
gonna try this today man, i dont get when people say being the taller fighter is best. Like bro id rather be a small fast guy who can blitz in then just relying on this jab haha. It aint all good being tall
I can jab a short person across the octogon :)
@@lightupdarkness sure u can

In this video I go over a number of concepts for outside fighters and boxers to maximize long range punching. We discuss boxing footwork variations, level changes, boxing counter punching and defense. We cover these in a drill using a few variations off of the same boxing tactic.

JT Van V I love your work
JT Van V Great video. Yours is my favorite channel.
JT Van V are u making videos at GoodLife? Nelk got banned for this
Do you do personal training?
dammmmn the sound of the punches hitting the mitts
This channel is the most positive I subscribe to on youtube. Love it when people share what they know. Very hard to find in sport, especially combat sports. Keep it up fella.
THANK YOU! Most of the videos on tactics here in YT are about fighting taller people.. Good to see a video giving advice for longer fighters..I'm the tallest guy in my gym but the others are already catching on to the jab-to-keep-my-opponent-at-bay technique..Will definitely add this to my bag of tricks.. Thanks man 👍
I still don't understand why you aren't more well know on RUclips. You have some of the best boxing tutorials. I wish you lived in Vancouver.
Cause he is hard to find, no clickbait and sutff like other people do. I just discovered him randomly when I searched for Ali shuffle tutorial
kodaspaws second your vancity wish! Not too many boxing gyms to choose from here.

This is golden. I have been struggling for ages to figure away to retreat from smart pressure fighters, besides just angling off to the left or pivoting to the right. A good opponent will eventually time you and catch you with something nasty, because he knows that you have limited options besides just retreating in a straight line. Thanks.
Double change of angle ending with a left and right. Beautiful, beautiful foot movement guys.
This is excellent stuff JT. I'm itching to get back into the gym after dislocating my shoulder while sparring 3 weeks ago so I am living vicariously through your vids for awhile.
This is great. Love the constant great quality in your videos. Much appreciated.
Thanks for this one :) I been watching you channel taking in as much information as possible. this one is right up my alley being 6'3. thanks keep they great videos going.
Great drills, can't wait to try them out at my gym. Thank you for the video!
Love your vids always a great help
I'm been waiting for a vid like this thanx really helped
Just beautiful video!!!👊🏾👍🏾You rock JT Van thanx for posting
Great work as always JT, I missed the last few of your vids but I'm having fun catching up bro!!!
Really enjoy JT and Nate together. Two of the best boxing coaches on RUclips! Thanks guys.
Tom Quinn thank you
A video about IN FIGHT would be very nice :) +Tutorial
I always look forward to these videos.
Fantastic...can't wait to try it at the gym. Thank you!
I'm 36 and started boxing about 10 weeks ago. I started just for fitness, something different to really hold my interest as the gym just didn't appeal anymore. My trainer has been really impressed with my improvement. I've watched so many of your videos and they have helped me to get such a head start. Thankyou for all your help. Very informative.
I love the fact you guys collab. I've been watching this channel for years, and just discovered Bower's a little under a year ago. Both great channels!
this has helped me more with shorter fighters.thank you for making this video
I watch and learn from booth of you. it's really alsome seeing you guys in the same video! respect!! keep strong!!
Man I love your videos, you're very good at explaining things which probably stems from your deep understanding of the sport ... Thank you and best wishes of more success.
Great video JT! I have to add some of these moves into my repertoire.
Awesome stuff man, still one of the best coaches on YT
Just started boxing at home. I haven't went to a gym yet, however I do go to karate, for 2 years. I learned more at your channel then that whole time. I truly appreciate the free content you offer.
You surprised me with the dip. That may work well in MMA too in case of jab fake and a take down attempt. Excellent stuff.
Straightforward and well explained as usual.
Good work !!!
Very inspirational!
Thank u for uploading this! Oh yeah yeah
Great tips. Thanks
thanks for this info man!
Great drill bro I got a few boys training and this drill really suits a couple of them! Thanku
Sweet tutorial, cheers 👊
Very nice video, shout out from Costa Rica
Great thanks again another thing to add to my boxing
I always come back to this
Thanks👌 nice instructions
The dip is a nice touch. I'll try that out. it makes sense. The short chunky guy sees your head up hi then dashes in and throws a hooky bomb over the top to take it off. So moving it somewhere else would help.
great tips!
Good stuff...thanks
Being 5'2 and always looking for ways to get in on the inside of my opponent. I can still appreciate this video. Helpful for understanding taller opponent tactics as well as using against an aggressive person my size.
Make sure you foot is inside his foot
Top class!
He has good pop on his punches great video cause I'm taller than everybody so all I do is outside fighting
God bless you great advice😊
thank you man verry good
I like how fast his hands get back to guard.
best boxing channel on yt !!
The sound of the check hook landing on the pad is beautiful 🤣😂
Powerful video JT. Going to follow your friend now 👍👌💪
Jason G. Thank you
Excellent video as always. Now do one for the inverse: pressure-fighter strategies against long outside fighters. Other than the bumrush. Please
A really skillfull outside veteran is Guillermo Rigondeaux. Cuban boxing legend
you're the best JT!
Makes our amature gym trainers appear a joke in UK London. Great video dudes.
Dip left and throw the cross to the body seems like a clean sequence
Can you make a video like that orthodox vs southpaw. I'm an orthodox boxer
Sick vid coach but I hope you're doing a pt with Nate for the shorter pressure fighters.. seeing as you are a short pressure fighter .. but again thanks
Sweet indeed
I think a fake jab and the right cross would be better when creating the angle for a better answer to the attack it will pit more pressure on thr guy and possibly cause fear and might give a knockout
Understandable
Another tool for the toolbox. Good vid.
Is there any chance for you to make a video about defensive moves/tactics/stances for REALLY tall dudes? I m talkin about 6'2 and over. I m 6'7 and I m looking for more tools other than circling, clinching and pumping the jab. Bobbing and weaving is futile, I just lean right into the other guys punches (considering that I m almost 1 foot taller than most people)
When I do a static dip, when I don't want put distance between my opponent and I, just evade the incoming punch, what muscles am I supposed to use? Am I still supposed to spread my legs a bit? or am I supposed to focus more on doing a more squat-like kind of movement? Thanks. As usual, very informative and useful!
bro got some heat in them punches 😭
would love this with some south paw angles but learnd alot thanks... #MmaFighter
South paw is so hard to fight against ugh
@@justblaze1656 south paw is easier for me to fight against tbh. I like hand fighting and you can always slap their lead hand down with yours and land your power hand.
nice tacticts jt as always 👊💥
Just for you bud!
Yea I got
I’m gonna practice this while I’m sleeping

Hah this is my gym! We have a kickboxing academy there now
good vd, but the problem is when the shorter fighter step fowward sliping left and right and quickly throw 1,2,3,4, punches combinatios
Can you do a video for the shorter guy that fight a taller opponent
Hey I’m the tall lean guy but have good power for my weight class what do you recommend should I be more aggressive or still rely on reach advantage
punches sound like the intervention from mw2
when punches hit it sounds like a halo 3 sniper shot
Doing my medical for sparring tom then taking the next step. Just hit 40!
Congrats!
conducttracks thanks
___i start stupid arguments___ I will just be sparring and keeping fit don't expect to get to a competitive level, but I'm in good shape always have so that helps.
Is there a way to use this a south paw because from my perspective I'd be shifting left into their right hand and it's very difficult to go to the back right it feels more natural to do lateral movement instead. But that means they'd get inside of me. If someone with more experience could just give me a pointer there I'd appreciate it.
Dope
Can you please do a inside fighting one
I am 2.02m ...nice vid bro! 🤙
Wouldn't dipping down take away your height? Generally I would say that changing levels is a bad idea because you put yourself at the opponents level. Plus it takes time to come down and back up. I like angling with a long jab off the face or their chest/shoulders if they have good head movement.
Hello man. First of all, thanks for your amazing content. I need to guidance on something: I'm (converted / natural right handed) southpaw, that like to fight on the outside. Fairly defensive fighter, I tend to favor philly shell / shoulder roll defense. However it's hard for me to defend the straight right after the jab. And I haven't found anybody on internet talking about this. I know this is a old video (I just watched the newest one -the one about the cross). So, anyways, I just wanted to have some advices on defense; even if you recommend to switch to another stance. Thanks!
Its hard to work the philly shell against the opposite side stance. That being said you either have to dip under the right hand or twist and bring your left hand up to block it.
Oh man, thanks!
I am training a 6 ft 3 inch tall welterweight with Tommy Hearns power in both hands but I have had a fit getting him to move. He fails to use his height and reach and lets short fighter inside. I sent him this video since explaining this and me showing him it is lost on him maybe your demonstration will help. He spars great and knocks down light heavy weights but once in the ring for real he goes into a trans or something. I got him working with my pro now so maybe that will help. keep up the good work.
It's hard to say how to change this, some fighters like to move forward and hold ground. I would just work on a simple pop back out and come back in again, like Kelly Pavlik in his first fight against Jermaine Taylor
If you're typically a outside/mid range fighter but you're fighting someone taller than you could you still utilize your typical style? I mean you'd be inside their longer reach even if you're utilizing all of yours right?
good video, your mate's trousers look poncey doe.
That's a check hook? It looks like a normal hook. Can you explain what made that a check hook? Thanks
Reminds me of Roy Jones Jr. With the very first move
How can I adjust this for an open stance fight?
Hey JT, great video as usual, thanks for that. The tactics described in this video apply only to outside fighters that are boxing against someone of the same height right? Cause my coach always tells me to stay tall (im 6'2"), wouldn't i put my self at risk of dipping so low as shown in the video?
+Fatih Özel thank you, you don't have to dip low, only the length of your head. Because the shorter fighter has to aim high you only need to move your head enough so the punch will miss. Also you are moving both down and back so it will be even harder for a punch to get you.
Thank you Sir! will try to incorporate it
Fatih Özel welcome
how did he mainting the distance? You are throwing punches from midrange and your opponent can hit u too
