    I'm the tallest fighter at my gym. After watching this video, the shorties couldn't touch me. Most important tip, don't move back in a straight line

      gonna try this today man, i dont get when people say being the taller fighter is best. Like bro id rather be a small fast guy who can blitz in then just relying on this jab haha. It aint all good being tall

    In this video I go over a number of concepts for outside fighters and boxers to maximize long range punching. We discuss boxing footwork variations, level changes, boxing counter punching and defense. We cover these in a drill using a few variations off of the same boxing tactic.

    THANK YOU! Most of the videos on tactics here in YT are about fighting taller people.. Good to see a video giving advice for longer fighters..I'm the tallest guy in my gym but the others are already catching on to the jab-to-keep-my-opponent-at-bay technique..Will definitely add this to my bag of tricks.. Thanks man 👍

    This is golden. I have been struggling for ages to figure away to retreat from smart pressure fighters, besides just angling off to the left or pivoting to the right. A good opponent will eventually time you and catch you with something nasty, because he knows that you have limited options besides just retreating in a straight line. Thanks.

    Is there any chance for you to make a video about defensive moves/tactics/stances for REALLY tall dudes? I m talkin about 6'2 and over. I m 6'7 and I m looking for more tools other than circling, clinching and pumping the jab. Bobbing and weaving is futile, I just lean right into the other guys punches (considering that I m almost 1 foot taller than most people)

    When I do a static dip, when I don't want put distance between my opponent and I, just evade the incoming punch, what muscles am I supposed to use? Is there a way to use this a south paw because from my perspective I'd be shifting left into their right hand and it's very difficult to go to the back right it feels more natural to do lateral movement instead. But that means they'd get inside of me. If someone with more experience could just give me a pointer there I'd appreciate it.

    Wouldn't dipping down take away your height? Generally I would say that changing levels is a bad idea because you put yourself at the opponents level. Plus it takes time to come down and back up. I like angling with a long jab off the face or their chest/shoulders if they have good head movement.

  • @Dubbios

    Hello man. First of all, thanks for your amazing content. I need to guidance on something: I'm (converted / natural right handed) southpaw, that like to fight on the outside. Fairly defensive fighter, I tend to favor philly shell / shoulder roll defense. However it's hard for me to defend the straight right after the jab. And I haven't found anybody on internet talking about this. I know this is a old video (I just watched the newest one -the one about the cross). So, anyways, I just wanted to have some advices on defense; even if you recommend to switch to another stance. Thanks!

    • @PrecisionBoxing
      @PrecisionBoxing  6 лет назад +3

      Its hard to work the philly shell against the opposite side stance. That being said you either have to dip under the right hand or twist and bring your left hand up to block it.

    I am training a 6 ft 3 inch tall welterweight with Tommy Hearns power in both hands but I have had a fit getting him to move. He fails to use his height and reach and lets short fighter inside. I sent him this video since explaining this and me showing him it is lost on him maybe your demonstration will help. He spars great and knocks down light heavy weights but once in the ring for real he goes into a trans or something. I got him working with my pro now so maybe that will help. keep up the good work.

    • @PrecisionBoxing
      @PrecisionBoxing  5 лет назад +1

      It's hard to say how to change this, some fighters like to move forward and hold ground. I would just work on a simple pop back out and come back in again, like Kelly Pavlik in his first fight against Jermaine Taylor

    Hey JT, great video as usual, thanks for that. The tactics described in this video apply only to outside fighters that are boxing against someone of the same height right? Cause my coach always tells me to stay tall (im 6'2"), wouldn't i put my self at risk of dipping so low as shown in the video?

    • @PrecisionBoxing
      @PrecisionBoxing  7 лет назад +3

      +Fatih Özel thank you, you don't have to dip low, only the length of your head. Because the shorter fighter has to aim high you only need to move your head enough so the punch will miss. Also you are moving both down and back so it will be even harder for a punch to get you.
