The FCM 36's shape was clearly designed for radar stealth. Well ahead of its time since ground surveillance radars wouldn't be around for another few decades.

I really want a tier 0 to have more of these interwar tanks that don't fit into the current one. I am legitimately more hyped and wanting of interwar vehicles than I am for the crap top tiers. Just imagine Vickers MksI, II, III. The R35. Leich and Grob traktors. Fiat 3000s. Great stuff.
Go into the 'negative' BR's, and the highest negative BR's would basically be WWI trench tanks like the good ol MkIV's n stuff
Tbh i dont understand why the Renault FT-17 isnt in the game considering its gun is the same one used on a fair few of the french starters
not just tanks but aircraft too. i wanna fly camels and gotha bombers and the red baron as a premium

between the gameplay and the repair costs I have zero interest in high tier mar thunder. I really hope that they change from the "make new 10.0 premium every patch" model they have now and make something more fun soon.
I dont mind playing french reserve tier, for me its a way to relax. You enter a zen mindset and accept the inevitable.

@@zzbudzz It's a program that shows a circle on the screen where the user is looking at via facial recognition software. I've only ever seen it used for funny "haha you looked at the boobs" stuff though.

All three of these tanks had versions or prototypes with better guns installed, but we're still waiting for gaijin to add/modify them.
They could even get the 25mm and be better
The R-35 had a 45mm 20-k installed by the Romanians.

It was hard, it was long, I never spaded them.... These tanks made me suffer but today I love them, today I Roll in my BC 25 T happily on the Battlefield, kills After kill. To all French mains out there, you pushed through the worse. Well done tankers. o7

@@jonhg92 Interesting... I'm a German main and those ARLs 44 arent that hard to kill. I don't get killed by them often. You just have to shoot at the upper turret and your amunition goes weee

Ah, the tanks that are only effective against armies that don't have their own tanks lol. When I was playing these I would pretty much only go for softer targets like open tops and trucks. Or else hide or flank for those sweet side shots.
I remember getting them when they first came out and when someone later asked me which nation should they start with i just said "ANYTHING BUT FRENCH"

I appreciate the recognition of all the pain and suffering I had to go through in order to grind out France.
I started with Italy, and got 3.7 with France
So speaking from experience, I realllly underestimated my Italian bois early on
They are WAYYY better then the French tanks at low BR
But over all they (the French tanks) taught me to play better
10/10 would suffer again

Day 92: Phly, you should play the Hawk III Chinese fighter; 900lbs of bombs in a biplane at 1.0 that you can dogfight in after dropping.
I checked out and bought the Hawk III after seeing you post this comment so many times. Haven't taken it out yet since I don't have decent Chinese ground yet, but excited to!
I think I remember that before the penetration rework the AMC 34 YR actually had decent pen on it's APHE shell. It was my primary vehicle when I finally decided to start the French line. Carried a few matches with it back then.

Anything with a 37sa17/18 (aka short 37mm) like the FCM or the R35 was NOT designed for AT combat, but infantry support like dealing with mg nests. Therefore, adding them in the game is just plain dumb, as you have to get close at less than 100m to hope piercing armoured cars or pz1 or 2.
Always keep in mind this gun shells were black powder ones, which says a lot...
Beside this, and it is especially true for the R35, the armor was more than enough to deal with its opponents of the same era, aka the early war. The Italians, who used them in Sicily in 1943 lost almost all of them at an alarming rate.
This is most relatable video from Phly, as a France main i really through some hard phase at BR 0-1.3 their tanks can't really penetrate, slow, but have a nice armor, the S35 really save me from that BR😭
The three you played were originally the reserves, but due to how terrible they are they were left as collectors pieces and new reserves were selected.
The cone was removed, but added back after they realized they had no other reserve options at the time.
I seem to remember one of these had rounds with less pen than fuze sensitivity... And it only got fixed after I spaded it.
The FCM-36 is just art. It's a cubistic wet dream.

Is it bad that I play my FCM 36 out of pure enjoyment? I know the thing has 36mm of pen at 10 meters but when other players encounter it, they seem confused and leave me alone after not penning their armor.
The FCM.36 and the Hotchkiss H.35, along with the Japanese Ha-Go, *are* still in the game. But to unlock them for research you need to get to Tier 2 with their country, or else they're red and unavailable
The OS2U is also still in the game, and to unlock those you need to reach Tier 2 US boats or ships
R35/39 and all of these tanks where design to follow infantry and protect the tanker while fighting infantry only.
The gun is a grenade thrower rather than a anti tank gun. other tanks have the role to fight tanks.
The AMC 34YR was the reserve tank for France back then, with the H35. I only made it through Rank I France because i got the prem H39 which was passable.
Let's just say i quickly got to learn how to aim and where to shoot.
All those short barrel 37mm tanks are designed to push enemies positions with the infantery (that's why they are slow and well armored). In game the armor doesn't works because all tanks get rounds from mid WW2. They can do quite well against Panzer 2C / 3C / 35t with stock ammo.
Same shit with 1.3 or 2.0 tanks, they massacred the S35 and especially the 47mm gun Sa35 in the game.
This tank has almost the same firepower as a potato cannon.

The tanks with the pea shooter guns are not starters anymore. You get those tanks once you have unlocked rank II or have all tech tree Rank I tanks, I don’t recall specifically which one but you can get gear tanks even if you didn’t have them when they were “removed”.
my first kill with the amc.34 yr was on a plane, somehow i one shot pilot sniped him with my mg (by mg i mean machine gun, not main gun)
To confirm as a relatively new player the AMC.34 YR, H.35, and FCM.36 aren't available to new players until they unlock Rank II, despite being Rank I tanks. The AMD.35 (actually pretty decent for a reserve) and the H.39 (not so decent) are the ones you start with.
I love how phly doesnt get mad when someone kills the tank hes looking at. he just gets happy because someone else took the kill and the enemy is dead. He doesnt get all pissed because someonme "stole his kill." just another reason why these vids are so comfy

I am so surprised that I made it through this stage without knowing how bad it is at the time (I started with France).
Depend of when you started, in the past they had longer reloading time, armor were broken (it's now fixed), battle rating are fixed too (some french rank 1 were 2.7 in the past and are now 1.3) lol

If you ever wondered how the Germans were able to STEAMROLL across France I'm 1940........well this shows one reason why
The Char series was the only thing that was a moderate problem for the panzers, but they didn't have enough of them and the French didn't use them properly ( which is understandable since Germany was writing the book on armoured warfare during those campaigns, revolutionizing warfare in general)
In the end I would advise waiting for the the French armor tech tree later after others as their tanks are not easy to use even for vets, the armor tech tree has dramatic BR jumps as well
They're all "chars", there is no char series.

I remember that I decided to start playing warthuder for France, with 0 experience in 2018, that was my "experience" until 5.7, at the time when the tiger was really broken.
At least the FCM has armor. The AMC has nothing. It’s slow despite how light it is.
Also didn’t they originally have the R35 with the short gun, which is worse than the H35 in every way?

i never understood why Gaijin put those tanks as the first of the french line when you have better options and every other nations bolster better penetration....
They should be removed and replaced by better ones : the AMC 34 should be replaced by the AMR.35 ZT1b, a faster and more mobile tank armed with a 13.2mm MG (same as on the AA) with access to the AP round of 1936, giving a way better penetration and fire rate than the AMC.34. Then you could move up to the ZT2 variant, armed with the 25mm gun in a turret. The H.39 and R.40 as the other reserves (armed with the SA38 model gun) and the FCM.36 put as premium but with the SA38 gun too.
You could also add more tanks to make the tier 1 a bit better or at least less painful, like the AMD Panhard 178B (AMD 35 with a 47mm gun), the M8 greyhound, the M3A1 Stuart, both version of the AMX.38 (with 37mm and 47mm guns), the first B1 upgraded in 39 (basically a B1 bis but with 40mm of armor), the Laffly W 15 TCC (47mm model 37 gun on a truck), Conus gun (75mm on a truck), M3 GMC, M8 HMC, AM40P (prototype of what will inspire the EBR), more AA like the Lorraine 28 AA (double 13.2mm on a truck) or Ford truck AA (quadruple 13.2mm on a truck), etc.....
But sadly the French line as little priority for Gaijin.
Why 13.2 mm on trucks when you have the Hotchkiss 25mm AA gun on a Citroen Truck

If I recall correctly, they are now only researchable once you obtain at least one rank II tank.
As someone who almost never plays France, i can confirm we do not use those tanks first and is instead the 2nd row below those tanks but they still suck lol.
The AMD.35 is actually quite decent

To be fair you are using tanks designed to be used against infantry against tanks designed to fight other tanks. All nations at the time these were designed were doing the same thing, it wasn't until the mid war period that proper doctrine and designs were implemented. Check out The Great Tank Scandal by David Fletcher book for more information about what was going on.

AMC.34 YR used to actually be usable. I remember a year ago when I first started playing with the French tanks, that it was my go to. Still wasn't great, but it wasn't awful either
Gaijin should have added the anti tank version with the 25mm not the infantry support one with the low velocity 47mm
I like how even RUclipsrs look at the pen values wrong.
500m is the value at 30° to look at for penetration never look at the others when in battle.
The main reason you get caught up in the 0° at 10m pen that you think thats your pen at all ranges when its not and you are mainly fighting between 50-600m between tanks.
Its why you look at 500m at 30° to get a mental grip on what you can pen and can’t pen instead of getting mad at the developers or mad at the shell/tank for being crap.
I’ve played that tank its hard but fun when you get use to it and it helps you see the values of pen analysis.
Look at 500m 30° you will be set as long as you remember the weak parts of any tank.

The AMC.34 YR is basically launching hand grenades at enemy tanks. Sure they will almost never actually penetrate anything but if they do they work quite well.

I remember when low-tier France was good.
But WoT low-tier France is fairly consistently playable.
I had a really good game in the H35 earlier on in my career. 10 kills and no deaths. For a newbie like me, I consider that decent. I'm sad that the French are mostly machine gun-proof from the front and some places on the sides, but really inconsistent to anything bigger than 20mm from the front alone.
Please don't hate me for liking World of Tanks, it was the introduction to tank combat games and kickstarted my love for tanks.
Day 5:
Phly, play the Panther F in Combo with the Amerikabomber and show the allies how real War Thunder Suffering feels
I used the AMD to grind low tier until I got to the S35 and the 37l, after that I got the b1, m10, and m4a1. Currently on tier 4
You see, the FCM 36 is actually mostly Panzer II-proof. It can only pen right around the gun and through the radiators.
french tank's guns were under powered to defeat enemy tanks but the armor was good(better off shooting HE instead of AP)

Several years ago, I bought a French tier 4-5 premium to support Phly. I gave up two years ago trying to grind France up to that tier, and a month ago I re-started trying. Have all but given up on France again at Tier 3. (I acknowledge that I'm really bad). One day, I'll get to play my Phrench tank! It's all for you, Phly!

It's so depressing to see a T-26 and M13/40 block shots like this, Panzer 3 almost look like a Tiger in front of this gun.
