Your videos and workmanship are top notch. I would fill the space between the inside of the roof and the top of your bracket with something solid (like our bay specific framing strips) This will stiffen the roof and prevent it from sagging or deforming under the dynamic load of the AC.

Hey @turddriver appreciate you taking the time to comment and humbled you'd think that about our videos and our build so far! Great suggestion on the framing strips I had not seen that product for a Sprinter van. I remember seeing something similar for a Transit where the space between the roof braces is way bigger, but I haven't noticed any deflection on my own van yet. I am curious now though and going to go look at this a little closer. Thanks again for the suggestion and all you do for the DIY community!

Hey Jonathan, thanks for the kind words and yeah we've been fortunate enough to amass quite the collection of tools from out other ventures. In the future I'm planning on offering some alternative ways to make the things we make as well as some great resources to outsource some of the more specializes operations like metal cutting, etc!

You are highly skilled and knowledgeable. I am jealous of your shop. Nice work!
How much does the dometic drop below the factory cross members? What is the total height above the factory roof for the exterior portion of the dometic? I am trying to look at modifying my rack for the Dometic 1000. Thanks

Hey there, thanks for stopping by and the compliments it's much appreciated! Definitely feel really fortunate to have been able to build up the tool arsenal over the years, building a van is no joke in terms of skills/things you need!!
To clarify on your question, are you looking for the dimensions for how we have it configured in our build (with the spacers) or the dimensions if you mounted it using the direct to roof gasket that Dometic provides for install?

@@moonrakerdesign welcome, agree. I am looking to see how much it sticks up above the roof line and drops the roof down on the inside. It looks like regardless of spacers the control panel will still come down further than the stock cross members on a Ford Transit. The nomadic seems to be the only AC that is a flush install. I don't think your supports change the control panel correct? Just the framing around it. My van is medium roof and my head is barely clearing the ceiling at the moment. Thanks

@@functionalvanconversion4284 The Dometic RTX2000 is one complete unit A/C and control/vent. The control sits about 5.5inches below the roof mount surface and the AC unit itself is 6.6" above that for a total unit height of ~12.00". What we chose to do is raise the whole system up out of the van with an adapter and spacer from @diyvan. You can see that here on our other video ruclips.net/video/j1weQ4eAWYE/видео.html.
This pushes the entire unit up ~2.5" so the exterior height grows to 9.1" and the interior controls/vent reduces to ~3". But that's from the roof skin itself and in the sprinter the ribs are about ~2.00" deep so overall we stick past the ribs by ~1.00" if that makes sense.

@@moonrakerdesign yeah that makes sense. Great work, and I'll check out your adapter. How do you keep the 12" exterior portion from blocking your solar? Always park facing south?

What’s the time table for you to make one for a 2020 sprinter van? Looking to add one in a couple months to my van

I’m making a batch of 10 of these right now, actually! It should be no problem if you are mounting the unit directly in the center of the two roof supports! Let me know if that’s not the case.

@@aviation2infinity802 Hey there, I have unpainted ones I can get to you if you don't mind spraying them yourself. The ones I have at powder coat I don't expect until next week sometime.
