The pros tell you it’s the greatest written screenplay in Hollywood history. I don’t know about that but if you close your eyes that horn transports you back 85 years..
What a terrific young orchestra. What a lovely and wonderful conductor. And, this young man has nailed this solo savagely ! I've been loving and playing this solo for almost 50 years. What a magnificent job this young man is doing.
I have watched movie 15,/20 times....the taste...the music...the timing...the skript... La just then....the acting..the music....the theme....just before the war......the unique...the chance to captures a chunk of America and package it.....The greatest outrage of all in the history of Oscars...shud have won the big ones by a maraton mile hands down....Polanski the perfeckt one plus Townsend..plus Goldsmith and this sublime massive rendition of theme ...Forever Forever.
Listening to this orchestra, this mesmerizing composition, these musical waves of melancholy make up for a heavenly experience.....! And that trumpet-led motif: just gorgeous!!
What many people don't know is that the Chinatown soundtrack was being composed by another composer, but producer Robert Evans didn't like the soundtrack and fired him. He then hired Jerry Goldsmith to compose it, who only had two weeks to do it since post-production was already very advanced. Therefore, this fact adds even more merit to Goldsmith, he composed a masterpiece against the clock.
The This guy gets it absolutely right…. Absolutely right..and transports me back nearly fifty years to one of my favorite films of my lifetime…Beautiful!
Sou Brasileiro e vi essa obra prima do cinema norte-americano, foi em 19778. Eu não consegui sair do cinema, vi mais uma vez. O roteiro é ESPETACULAR e essa música não me saia da cabeça.
Great trumpet !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Can't be beat !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.............................This Trumpet Man is going places !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Man that moved me. I may more than likely play that well but I’m never going to put this horn down until I come close. Great performance on the part of the trumpet player.
Wow... I have tears in my eyes after listening to this. Hans de Munnik, I am blown away with your talent with the trumpet. Yours was a world-class performance!!! Uan Rasey would have been very proud. Every time I watch this video, I notice other nuances. At 8:10, notice Hans closes his eyes as he is completely immersed in the music. Then his final notes to end this masterpiece...I am without the appropriate words to describe the beauty of it all. I am shocked at how stoic the audience was at the end of the performance... I would have jumped to my feet and offered up an enthusiastic standing ovation.
This is another great "time travel" musical performance taking me back to a time of my life in the 1970's when the movie "Chinatown" opened. I was stationed in Germany with the Army.
As someone who has experienced perfect performances in acoustically-acclaimed facilities in the New York area, I'm shouting *"Brava" to the Maestra, Miho Hazama.* No instruments drown out others & while that reflects the quality of recording, it's only at the end with the audience applause can one appreciate how well interior resonance was factored in. This was *superb* in every respect, rendering the dynamic of the original soundtrack ~ here done in one take. WOW!
I hear your wonderful singing. We have a small choir, no musicians, in the Fenlands of England, a long way for us to travel and sing on Sundays. Perhaps you can remember us in your prayers as we do our best to sing this wonderful hymn. Thank you. Neil and the choir of Hoy Trinity Holbeach U K.
I was just thinking it looked so odd. I thought this is an elaborate "faked" video. I don't see how hes getting those notes through his lips. Sounds great though.
I love this film Chinatown 🎥 of all times very sad that the director Roman Polanski Didn't complete the two parts of Chinatown that were supposed to be
Absolutely beautiful and Totally simphatetic with the movie! I dont know you guys, but, I happen that when I hear this music Evelyn Cross comes to my mind!
One of the joys of surfing through RUclips is finding gems like this. Great rendition of a great film score.
I agree this was amazing
The pros tell you it’s the greatest written screenplay in Hollywood history. I don’t know about that but if you close your eyes that horn transports you back 85 years..
RIP Maestro Goldsmith. A legend. The silver age of film music is sadly passing away.
What a terrific young orchestra. What a lovely and wonderful conductor. And, this young man has nailed this solo savagely ! I've been loving and playing this solo for almost 50 years. What a magnificent job this young man is doing.
Film score classic! Mr Goldsmith would be proud I'm sure. Bravo.

Formidable.Excellente trompette !
The art of arranging something great to something even better.
Great arrangement. Fabulous tone and expression by the trumpet player!!!
They’ll be listening to this classic a hundred years from now..
Amen here on earth and I'm heaven
Wonderful, wonderful rendition, salutations from Brazil.
Beautiful performance. Outstanding trumpet solos by Hans de Munnik! Thank you for this jazzy start to my day.
Fabulous score by Jerry Goldsmith and this version is fantastic.... So glad I found it and will add to my playing..... Brilliant
These young people have such respect for a legendary piece, beautiful, amazing.
Listening to this orchestra, this mesmerizing composition, these musical waves of melancholy make up for a heavenly experience.....! And that trumpet-led motif: just gorgeous!!
When it rains I need to be inside of a coffee shop or cafe and listen to this, this fits the mood so well
I agree it’s beautiful but too deep for ambient noise of a cafe.
I've landed up with this in my ears all day.
Wonderful refrains.
Follower of the main Orchestra for a number of years.

It occurs to me that it seems to be inspired by "Taps" except that the former is major and "Chinatown" is minor.

There is a unique melody to this song It gives me goosebumps a spectacular performance……….

Absolutely stunning.
For me, this is the greatest live music performance on RUclips! I try to listen to it at least once every day. Magnificent!!
This sounds so clean. Its some mind time travel music for sure.
Entire orchestra sounds fantastic but the trumpet player is truly outstanding
CBS Sunday Morning tribute to recent passings led me to Chinatown sound track which in turn led me to this great arrangement. Made my summer morning.
Beautiful solo; great arrangement! (Echoing a previous poster: many thanks to the RUclips algorithm for "selecting" this for me.)
What a responsibility to fill in Mr Rasey's boots! Not everybody would... but you did! Wonderful!
Uan Rasey would smile and approve! Great trumpet playing! 🎺👍
CHINATOWN + BOSSA NOVA = PERFECTION!
Man that moved me. I may more than likely play that well but I’m never going to put this horn down until I come close. Great performance on the part of the trumpet player.

Thanks a lot for these lovely words!
Hauntingly Beautiful..
Oh my lord how beautiful!
*WOW !* *Magnificent performance !*
*Congratulations to all*
Um dos melhores clássicos do cinema americano. Um grande filme 🎥 com um roteiro ESPETACULAR. É perfeito. Essa trilha sonora com esse trompetista.
Beautiful! Possibly the best version of this since the original. Bravo!
Thank you so much!!
The great LA studio trumpeter Uan Rasey set the bar high in the original. This is a beautiful rendition as well!
Pure Magic Music Screenplay and Movie
This is another great "time travel" musical performance taking me back to a time of my life in the 1970's when the movie "Chinatown" opened. I was stationed in Germany with the Army.
Ahhh, ,,,the soft music of hard "NOIR."
Jerry Goldsmith also wrote the music for LA Confidential (1997) …
and these movies fit that film noir genre (1930s, 1940s, early 1950s) - so well.
An absolute delight.
Thank you so much.
Great movie.
Goldsmith, Bacharach, Alpert, oh my!
Very tastefully done. Wonderful trumpet/flugelhorn soloist. Thank you for the treat.
Goldsmith, Towne, Polanski. Pure magic. 'Forget it Jake. It's Chinatown.'

Agree, Miho managed to create a magical atmosphere during this piece - she's amazing

Pretty damn good !
Incredible rendition of this classic 😮
Que linda essa gravação!
Beautifully performed…
Old school Metropole orchestra. As it should be. Play that background sound for the rest of my life.
Una muy buena musica para una buena película......
That trumpet player’s embeurture is unreal
I was just thinking it looked so odd. I thought this is an elaborate "faked" video. I don't see how hes getting those notes through his lips. Sounds great though.
This reminds me of hollywood after dark.the magicians club viewing it from a hotel.
Simplesmente espetacular
Absolutely fabulous! I am completely mesmerized!
Extracto. Escepcional de de peliculon
Que Bello....!
Very most beautiful movie score ever written. Bar n
Fantastic🎉❤❤
Fantastic!!
I believe the original was played by Uan Racey a top flight LA session player who appeared on many soundtracks and Frank Sinatra records
Perfecto
If the movie was set in the 60s, certainly this version would be the main theme.
Something produced by Henry Mancini.
It's really good!
mega fab
stupendoooo!!!!!!
I love this film Chinatown 🎥 of all times very sad that the director Roman Polanski Didn't complete the two parts of Chinatown that were supposed to be
This sounds a bit like the Metropole Orchestra from the days of Rogier Van Otterloo and Rob Pronk, although it was larger in those days.
Ambiguities of feelings arise in this composition thus giving one a feeling of tragedy but a curiously sexy:erotic feeling-Thanatos and Eros?
parece bolero do Tom Jobim ! saboroso !
Nice rendition, but the original by the great Uan Rasey will never be topped.
Goldsmith had to knock this out in 2 weeks after the original composer was fired.
Does anyone know the name of the trumpet player
Woooow great perfrormans.
Absolutely beautiful and Totally simphatetic with the movie! I dont know you guys, but, I happen that when I hear this music Evelyn Cross comes to my mind!
Very excellent
