Not what you know, it’s who you know. I’m a residential garbage man in Illinois. It’s a hard job and out of 10 hires 7 will quit: it’s not for everybody. But it’s good pay
What company and location are you at? Are they hiring? I live in illinois and been applying to a couple of waste management companies but havent heard from them yet. Ive only applied for non-driver positions though since i dont have a cdl
So true. I’ve been a garbage man for 20 years. I drive the truck and work the back. Most new hires quit within that first week. Out of the few that last, probably half of those guys wind up getting injured and can’t do the job anymore… There’s very few garbage men like me who have been doing it as long as I have. My body is definitely paying for it though.
$47.40 an hour in San Jose California with as much or little OT you want. Pay is great and benefits even better. Most of our drivers barely finished high school making $120k-$160k a year
Been with republic a year now I love it idk where that’s at but picking up extra trash is a nooo gooo in Florida rules are rules if it’s not in the container leave it 🤷🏾♂️😂
So the republic services I'll be working at has no residential. Strictly business run. Roll offs and front loads. I can bet residential can get crazy hectic
I use to do this but we got paid a lot more your getting ripped off bro I was make 1900weekly doing this job you pretty much picking trash up by hand the machine only gets the can, and you still have to get out because people put the can on the mailbox can’t pick it up like that rain , sleet or snow you out there 700-800 weekly is not worth it. We also got paid production but I work for a different company starting pay was 20+ and hours mandatory 60 hours a week + incentive of extra 350-400 weekly added
$40-$50K is a well paying job? hey it ain't bad, but today? Shit, my 30 year old son is still stuck living home with $80K in college debt and he can't afford a place even making nearly $60K a year. new England is expensive as fuck anyway but damn, you ain't supporting a family on $50K sadly.
in idaho , or at least in Nampa idaho, they stopped getting out to do this, they wont even throw in a small 10 pound black bag they literally leave it now because i guess we are so far behind on garbage management :/ it kind of sucks, i think here they make on average 13-15.00 an hour

Just curious, who do you work for? I film garbage trucks in Illinois, so for me it’s cool hearing about other guys in the industry

So you need a class A cdl in order to be a driver?
republic or wm ?
Yeah, but that's for California cost-of-living. If they were paying that in Arizona, it would be perfect.
So do u work for CWS
thats such cap aint no way garbage truck drivers making 6 figures... more than an AIRLINE PILOT??
$40,000-$50,000 a year is pretty low for a job so vital to the community
Pretty high in my opinion, should be minimum wage.
That’s good money comparing it to making 25k a year beginning in construction
@Sunday Belford why? It should not be more than Minimum wage.
@Sunday Belford too much money.
@Backwoods Nomad or use inmates

For us depends on village contracts
Day pay is gone and it's by the hour now. And 10 hour days are the normal. 28 years in maintenance department.
Better than working for a factory for 16 to 18 an hr shyt payy
400 to 800 cans a day you got to be joking I do double that everyday as a trashman still get paid the same b******* dailypay
And over here in australia, we have the same, we do 800-100 a day!!
SMH. There’s no way I’m doing 50yrs after 10 or 15 you’re supposed to have some type of business 🤦🏻♂️
I been there . Republic is a good company
400 a day? Shit I do 1300 on my smallest route and 1700 plus on my biggest route. For $34 an hour too
We do 900 stops for compost and garbage but recycle only 600stop wa state I make $36 full scale
40k a year ??? I was considering it but never mind

Did I just hear that correctly.. they get paid by how many stops they make??
Good morning sr I want to apply a truck driver
Paid by the stop? Oh that’s horrible.

Starting pay after training is $68,000 per year depending on location. Not even the person that washes out the cans makes less then 20.
