"Come on Pips!" My favourite part is where she paused and broke out into a chuckle. It's amazing how she sings this song everytime like she was singing it for the first time.
You and my girls and one guy Marshal 😂😂😂😂😂 we did this our last year over in elementary school knowing it was just a hand fool of us black kids and really that's all we had was us and we decided for us to do in this show to do Gladys knight and the pips and sang that song midnight train to goegia and Kool-aid the gang song Get down 😂😂😂we went out with a bang 😊❤
I am old School 100 I can listen to Gladys Songs every day & all day it's never boring She Still have that Spiritual Anointed Southern Gospel Sound Amen Some body i love it 💘
Love you Ms. Gladys Knight! I a simple guy from Vineland, NJ. I am not black but my parents had all your records, your signed posters up our wall. You are always in my ears from the cassettes, walkmans, mp3s, ipods, itouch, phone, and in my heart. I am now 39 and living and working hard. But i always remember to put your music on everyday of my life. And for that, I thank you for everything
Timeless song. Most of that audience likely weren't even born when this came out, yet they know all the words. How much of today's pop shit will be remembered in 40 years?
Agree!!! So glad I got to see this wonderful memory again. Watching lots of oldies like this tonight, staple singers,aretha,temptations.... My daddy always said I was a strange white girl because of the music I liked but I caught him tapping his feet a couple of times back then. I have a new( respect ) for technology now. It can bring back the past!
The audience turned out to be 'The Pips'...that young crowd knew all the words as well as the original dance moves of the Pips and it cracked Gladys up. I loved it! :)
OMFG !!!! I was there in the Audience !!! in Bermuda Sinbad soul festival !!!! Gladys came out last and every one in the Audience kept saying where's Gladys. They made it like the show was coming to the END. And we all were disappointed Most of us were there primary for The Empress Gladys..A voice so powerful live that it vibrated my chest. Jus AMAZING
She's one of my all time favorate singers! She's the only one that can do so much with little range and it's mainly beause she puts so much soul and emotion in every single note! She's a legend and rightfully so!
Here is what I think this song means to me. Martin Luther King's last speech in Memphis in 1968 warned his followers that he had been to the mountain top as a servant of the Lord. He said he may not get to the promised land with his people but his people will get to the promised land someday. It was like KIng knew he would be taken from his people. Yet, he knew his struggle to create a better world of equality for black people and all other oppressed peoples would out live him. "I would rather live in his world with him than without him in mine." This line seems to sum up what King's lifetime of work meant to his followers. The Midnight Train to Georgia is King's final trip home to his resting place in Georgia to receive his reward to be with the Lord. This song speaks to the real struggles of black people to live and hope for a more just world. The men who try to do good things for others, like King and Medgar Evers, get struck down early on a Midnight Train to Georgia or Mississipppi. We still struggle against the dark forces of hatred today in this country. ruclips.net/video/zgVrlx68v-0/видео.html
I know there’s Diana Ross, Patti labelle, Dionne Warwick and all the others but to me Gladys Knight and Aretha are the legends I can listen to everyday and still feel goosebumps every time I hear them sing
Gladys Knight is stellar, exuberance, stellar, awesome, classiness, brilliance, pride in herself and herself as a Performer/Entertainer, and the epitome of professionalism as a star! Today's young people can learn quite a bit from Ms. Knight, how to be a person and an Entertainer, and, you don't have to put a thousand notes and scales within a measure of music to be a great vocalist, singer or entertainer!
She has always been so good. Catch her on the old Soul Train vids from the early seventies. Talented and so cute too. Can't leave out the Pips either, they were great performers.
Grew up with oldies and will die with oldies. I was good freind with rick James. I remember every time he came to the house. He would ask my mom if she had any torts. Boy did he love my moms cooking. He use to tell me about alot of singers he knew. He told me one day he was going to inter duce me to alot of them. But it didnt happen god bless his soul. He passed away before that happened. Rick if your there. Youll alway be in my memorys as a good friend and a good singer. Will.miss you dearly. Motown will alway be in my heart too. Love all motown singers ooh and to let you know. I visit your grave site every year in buffallo new york. A friend alway Joseph lucero
Joseph Lucero Hey Joseph I adore Rich James Charles Murphy called him the freest black man. I would love your email address, if you don’t mind so I can have more insight of him as a person. I’ll be hoping to make a project about him. Love from London :)
This on my Ipod play list. We sing it in the car and enjoy it to the max. Just found this video and cried tears of joy. Ms. Knight has all the tools of a star beauty, voice, laughter and connection to the fans. The faces of the band shows the love they have for her. The excitement and smiles of the crowd show their love for her. You see this and just want to be there and soak it in. Thank you
Amazing how she maintains that voice after all these years. Amazing how she maintains that cute, almost childlike expression that makes her look way younger. Amazing how Motown missed her And for the young BeyonceGagaShakiras, Dont be surprised, Even we grumpy olders have had music. A whole different class and caliber.
her voice is always praised and well deserved but something I get with her that I don't feel I get from other legends is she's down to earth. She seems like the legend next door who is just a sweet older woman who will bake you something or grew some fruits in her yard and than bring them over to your house, or at the local PTA meeting, or neighborhood running errands. Next thing you know she says see you in a few days, I gotta go perform for thousands of people.
Yes! She seems like one of us. Someone you could just walk right up to on the street and talk to or hang out with and have a good time. Not a typical diva.
This is just fantastic.i wish i lived in USA instead of Australia and could goto such concerts. You blacks know soul like no others. Just look how the audience connects and sings. Im so envious they know every word. Hope to see her as she comes to Oz in a few months and sing along and forget the problems we allencounter for a while
Love her. Mama Gladys' voice is so robust, always has been. She was working hard that night. Those Sinbad festivals were the best. I like how she kicked this song off "Let's ride..." And a true fan knows what that means. Great performance by a wonderfully talented artist.
Her stage craft, presence is the best I've ever seen. She sings mire first for herself before for the crowd. The crowd return's to themselves after her performance asking for more. Her kicks on stage is phenomenon.
No, there will never be another crowned the Queen of Soul, that title was given to Aretha Franklin, and she earned that title rightfully so. When you hear anybody talking about “ The Queen Of Soul” Aretha Franklin will always come to your mind. Now Gladys Knight was crowned the “ Empress of Soul” she wears her crowned nickname well also. She was also a light weight Actress ( Blues Brothers) the Woman was and always will be Internationally and National known as the “ Queen Of Soul” oh yeah she also sung for Presidents inaugurations, Clinton’s and Obama’s. So believe me she earned her Title" but Gladys has earned hers also. They both. Are the Best at what they do. I enjoy both of their Music, both of them are outstanding Soul Singers.
Feeling the love from that audience.
"Come on Pips!" My favourite part is where she paused and broke out into a chuckle. It's amazing how she sings this song everytime like she was singing it for the first time.
I don't know what moved me more: Gladys' kick-butt performance, or the audience's united energy. I would have loved to have been there!
I loved it when she burst out laughing. I loved this song when it first came out and I love it still. I’m 71 and still love Motown.
Gladys had put on some weight but it did not affect her huge presence on stage.
I am a 70 year old Aussie that can and will listen to Motown all day the most beautiful written and performed
Me to at 75
Anyone listening in 2024
I am old School 100 I can listen to Gladys Songs every day & all day it's never boring She Still have that Spiritual Anointed Southern Gospel Sound Amen Some body i love it 💘
thousands of pips
on board the midnight train
singing uuuuuuuuhhhhhhuuuu
together with gladys .....
a lot of grammies for them !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Her reaction to the audience singing backup in perfect unison and knowing the words to the song. Wish I had been there.
She's really having fun with this and so is the audience. Timeless song, and a performer who can still pull it off.
Wow, this performance was amazing. She push through 👏🤜🤛👊👍🙌.. Now that's worth traveling. I wish I was there.
with this audience and their spontaneity is probably the best version of this song, amazing..🥰
Gladys showed up and showed completely showed out. just great.
That lady has not lost the purity of her vocals. Since way back then...Truly a unique voice in class of her own.
From me in Tasmania 29 December 2022 I just want to say what a phenominal vocalist Gladys Knight truely is.
Now THAT'S a performance!!! Her voice hasn't lost anything in 40 years
I just feel kind of sad for anyone giving this a thumbs down. How can you have a heart and a soul...and not like this?
There will never be another Glady. What a voice!!!!!!

A real lady, all these years still remaining with the same strong voice, expression, exuberance and enthousiasm. God blessed her with talents...

and the audience as well (well done, well sung ...)
Wonderful Gladys, but what a great audience too!
Greatest audience I've evrr seen. They were all Pips. Very engaged. I loved her reaction at 1:37. Must have been someone in the audience.
@@vmsballer They were all Pips

This video is from Sinbad's 70s Jam Fest (not the correct name) from the mid-1990s. I'm sure most of these people were born when the song came out.
The greatest music will always stand the test of time!

Amazing she can still sing like this. What a wonderful career she had. One of the greatest of all time. Yes, Gladys!!
Rob Moitoza I'm 27 years old and I fully agree
GK is the GOAT alto voice in R&B POP & Soul.
