HD Recording for Comparison

- This is an experiment. Two videos shot at the same spot. Same lighting. No edits. No cuts. One in 4K and one in HD. I would ask that you watch them both and let me know in the comments (on either, not both) what you watched them on and if you noticed any significant differences.
The videos on this channel are experimental in nature and filmed entirely on the iPhone 15 Pro Max. They should be used as tutorials of sorts to demonstrate how to make various types of videos for RUclips.
I am watching on my laptop. Which I usually do. But I don't see any difference. Thanks Tim.
Watched both on my iPad full-screen. The 4K seemed crisper and had a bit of a 3D feel. But for the purposes of these videos, I prefer the HD. You get twice as many Likes today!
I'm watching on a phone, I couldn't see any difference. Thanks Tim.
I’m watching on my phone, I prefer this video and I’m going to watch later on the big tv to see if there’s a difference
I watch either on my phone or my iPad and I didn’t notice a difference at all on my phone this morning. I’m guessing your hypothesis was correct 😄 Have a good day!
I watched both videos on our 42 inch 7 year old LG Smart TV and also on my iPhone X, watching each all the way through and then going back and watching and comparing again between the two.
I definitely notice that 4K is quite a bit sharper
and brighter on the TV and phone and would be my preference in terms of how a video looks, especially if it is conveying something special or significant.
Personally, I prefer Images to be sharp, but I know I have that bias because of doing photography in past years.
I am thankful when there is content of either type because I so appreciate the footage being shared.
I appreciate everything you do and I enjoy your work! Whatever works best for you is certainly fine! ❤
Watching on an Acer Spin 3 laptop, full screen...I use the default screen (about 2/3rds of a screen) when you do your livestreams so I can see the comments. Both videos look good, the 4k is a little sharper but like you say, most people watch on their laptops or phones so it's not a big deal for me at least, HD is fine for your You Tube videos. I like when you give us assignments to help you out, you have shown us how to do B-roll, and a lot of other things with your Life In Motion Channel over the year, seems only right to help you out with an assignment now and then.
I watched both videos on a 15 inch Lenovo laptop. I cleaned my glasses first. I may be able to make out a difference in sharpness particularly in the moldings of the fireplace mantel.
I watch your video on a an iPad Pro. I can tell a small difference but not enough to matter.
Watching on my iPad full screen. To my old eyes, maybe 4K brighter?
I watched them both and even went back and rewatched some of both of them looking for differences. I’m on my iPad while doing this I think i might notice some differences but I probably not. These 66 year old eyes may explain that 😊
I watch on my phone and couldn’t tell the difference.
I'm watching on laptop, I prefer HD 🙌😃
Hi, Tim! I watched both videos; this one twice. The difference is subtle, but the 4K is definitely clearer and more sharp. I watch on a laptop. I know the file size is more than double. It is better, but I can't say that the HD is bad. Since I can compare them here it shows that 4K is better, but would I notice if I weren't looking for the difference? Probably not. Thanks for the videos! Have a great day!
Awesome, thank you!
I watched both on the same monitor and saw practically no difference. I did rewatch both on my 4K screen and oh boy there are huge differences - mainly your face is so much lighter on the HD vs 4K as well as things much crisper in 4K.
Thank you! That is very helpful!
I only use my iPhone11. The only difference I notice is that the detail of your face gets a little blurry as you move close to and away from the camera.
But honestly, if I wasn’t looking for it, I don’t think I would have noticed.
The color is the same. The images on the mantle might be a little sharper in the 4k. Maybe.
I watch on a 32 inch TV and I definitely see a difference. The things on the mantel are a little fuzzy.
Thank you!
I just watched both. I watched them on a desktop computer with a wide screen (2560 x 1080). I opened each video on a separate tab and paused them for comparison. I looked at all the detail areas you mentioned. I was hard pressed to see a huge difference. Some parts of your hair I could see in better detail. Obviously 4k is better. However, I think it depends on the location you are recording at. For this setting I would stick with HD. Perhaps when you are at a location where you want as much detail to show as possible, use 4k. For example, your Europe Trip. I think you are right however when you say that it might be overkill. Another question for you would be does the RUclips algorithm promote 4k more as well. Just a thought. I appreciate you asking for our opinion. (I will post this comment on the other video as well)
That’s a great question. I have no idea!
I'm watching on an inexpensive Samsung phone and HD video was sharper, especially your face.
Tim, I Like THIS the Most. I am watching on Android. It seem's that it's a lil' Closer, if I'd State Any Difference at all.
Watching on an iPad, couldn’t see a difference
Watching on my iPad. I did see some difference in color/ sharpness between the 2 videos. The 4k was more sharp/deeper color and better detail re: your face, hair, background. But with that said, unless you’re trying to get as sharp a result as possible overall - like when you take your trip, I don’t think it’s enough of a difference to worry about. I wonder if one is preferred by youtube over the other?
I don’t think so. But I can’t be sure.
I watch on my iPad. The only difference I see is your facial features are not as sharp in HD. When you moved your head it was almost out of focus in HD. But the background looked the same to me.
On my phone this looked clearer to me than 4K On my laptop still clear. Stick with HD and make your life easier. Joan
Watched both on my cheap Walmart 6 month old 36” Roku tv lol. 4k seemed a little bit sharper & more colorful but a small percentage 10% out of 100 I’d say.
I noticed the 4K was sharper/crisp. The foreground was sharper also in the 4K. I am watching from an ipad. The HD version was acceptable …most people look better in soft focus!!! What ever is easier for you to use. I won’t get out my eye loupe to judge.
😂
😊watching on the phone...HD
I watched both on my iPhone. I did not notice any discernible difference.
I'm watching on a Pixel phone, and prefer this recording because everything is brighter- the whites are more white, the background mostly the same but of course with a brighter video you can see more detail. I wonder if the sound is different? I checked- this one is louder and more bombastic.
I noticed it being brighter when editing as well. It’s one of the reasons I posted with zero edits. It’s really interesting. Thanks!
@@LifeInMotionDiaries It is interesting but my phone is constantly changing the lighting all by itself, and it's not on "auto".
I’m watching on an iPad and didn’t notice any difference. If I had to choose maybe I would say this one was clearer. 🤷🏻♀️
I usually watch on my phone and don't see much difference.
I always felt bad for the newscasters wjen everything went to HD, if tjere was an imperfection on their face you would see it. My kids, all in their 30’s are blown away when they see news footage from the 60’s and 70’s and how “bad” the video was!
I thought this one looked best your face was clearer, I'm watching on my oppo phone.
I don't have any other electronic equipment.
Tim I prefer hd. First of all I see no discernible difference in quality in your comparison videos. Second I like to watch your videos on my 4k TV and it takes forever sometimes for the 4k videos to load.
Watching on my tablet (some of us still use those 😄)
2nd video is clearer.
I was planning on getting a tablet and start watching on that. 😊
@@pamelacrowe4971 Brilliant! They're so handy, especially when outdoors 😊
Watched on my phone. No difference.
watching on a laptop, the coloring and picture quality is not as good with the HD version. Do I need 4k, NO, I'm fine with HD.
Don’t see much difference. Watching on 2024 I pad
